Bagging Alice (Standalone) An Enemies to Lovers Roommate Romantic Comedy (Babes of Brighton Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 118 ratings

Don’t fall for your sexy roommate…

My roommate has just scarpered. With no one available to rent the room at such short notice I'm forced to consider other options…

Enter playboy Tom ‘man whore’ Maddens. The one person I don't want to live with. I just hope I don't murder the sexy idiot.

What I don't plan on is liking him.

But its not like I'm going to fall into bed with him. I'm not like that. Not like all the girls Tom is so used to bedding.

Could he really be different to what I've seen on face value? Or is he just trying to get into my bed?

Alice Watts is flipping hilarious, her words (she has such a potty mouth), her outlook on life, and her friends. I was outwardly laughing throughout. Then there’s arrogant, smug and annoyingly cute Tom ‘man whore’ Maddens. Gross, obnoxious, yet vulnerable at the same time, he made many decisions that to me were unacceptable, yet true to life. Some you may say are unforgivable, a lot of the things he did were all to forget Alice and his wayward thoughts of her. At the same time he could be so sweet, thoughtful and caring. I spent half my time hating his life choices and the other half loving him. I understand why Alice didn’t stand a chance against him. They both appeared to have got themselves in pickles one way or another, it was certainly entertaining discovering how they were going to fix their messes. Oh, and can I just say the scene with Pickles in the park was hilarious. Great writing, a totally addictive story, and true to life characters. Narrated by new to me Victoria Riley, who did a bang up job of narrating both Alice and Tom.

Alice is a freelance photographer, who never expected to find herself on the other end of the camera, after a disastrous break-up with her boyfriend, Ted, who then posts naked pictures of Alice on a revenge porn website. And to make the day even worse, Alice’s roommate moves out, so she’s left with no other option than to let Tom “Manwhore” Maddens move in. Tom secretly has a bet with his friends that he will not only sleep with Alice but get her to fall in love with him.

I read this in an evening and was delightfully surprised at how enjoyable it was. I was alternately infuriated with Tom and rooting for him.

This story tackles some tough topics including the danger of the digital age, sexual harassment by a female supervisor to a male co-worker and the death of a parent.

One of my favorite passages from the book because I feel like if we all lived our lives this we'd be much happier! “From that day, I vowed to never attempt to blend in again. After all, it had got me nowhere.” “Before buying something, I wouldn’t ask myself ‘what will people think?’, instead I’d ask myself ‘do I love it?’” If we all lived our lives like this, I think we’d be much happier.

I asked to receive this free review audible book and wrote this unbiased review. Laura Bernard has written such a realistic love story that covers many of today's issues. Some of the issues addressed are workplace sexual harassment by a female boss, sexual pictures posted on the internet without consent, death and the "what ifs" that follow it, discontent in families, revenge, and building relationships. Tom and Alice did not plan on falling in love but as their relationship develops they find that there will be many pitfalls along the way. The big question they have to answer is whether these challenges will tear them apart or bring them together.

Victoria Riley did a brilliant job of portraying the emotions and personalities of these characters. When I get so involved with the story that lack of dual narration isn't an issue, I know that the narrator has done an excellent job. I highly recommend this Audible book.

Bagging Alice (Babes of Brighton,#3) by Laura Barnard is a cute story about a girl name Alice. She has cappy luck when it comes to boyfriends. This time she hit the jackpot. A mad ex posted naked pictures of her which has caused her clients to cancel working with her. To make matters worse, her roommate ups and moves out without notice. She has no way of making her rent till Tom "manwhore" Madden comes into town and needs a place to stay. Alice would rather eat dirt than have to deal with Tom but she doesn't want to have to go back home. Life with her parents is not something she wants to do. She will have to endure Tom. Even though this is book 3, it can be read as a standalone. I had not read the previous 2 books and had no issues reading this book. An enjoyable story of a young lady dealing with a casanova. She knows her track record and definitely doesn't want to get caught in Tom's web. Unbeknownst to Alice Tom has made a bet with one of his boys that he can bag Alice. This story is comical at times, heartfelt at times, sad at times along with being down right sweet. A 4.5 star story.

This is the third book in this great series. Alice is left in the lurch when her roommate moves out unexpectedly, plus she does not have the best track record with men, and now her ex is set out to destroy her life. Tom is a womanizer, who is looking for somewhere to stay in a new town, and ends up as Alice’s housemate. This story is hilarious and entertaining with the love / hate relationship thing they have going on. Will Alice find out about the bet Tom has made with his friend about “bagging” her? No spoilers; this is a must read, but be warned that there is graphic scenes in this story. This is well written and I was hooked and intrigued throughout, and look forward to reading more from this talented author, who I highly recommend for all.

The opening really starts with a bang..no really! Not exactly tasteful but then that’s the point. The idea behind the story and the title isn’t exactly pleasant but in real life often true.

Alice Watts is literally exposed by her scum of an ex-boyfriend, loses her job and her roommate and has no choice but to accept Tom ‘Manhore’ Madden as her next roommate. Something she’d rather not do for obvious reasons but times are tough for her with no other choice.

Some good humour with fun banter between these fabulous characters is threaded throughout the story making me chuckle quite a lot. Likewise I wanted to slap a few of the characters upside their heads at times, especially Alice’s family...what twats, as she would say!

The mystery of the photos being revealed is not as straight forward as you think which does add a delightful touch to the story, it’s always good to try to solve a puzzle.

Bagging Alice is a fast paced, easy to read story that is a light romance that leaves you feeling terrific. I will definitely be going back to explore more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars - Is this tom-cat about to be neutered? *snorts*

I don’t know how the author does it, but Laura Barnard has the knack of making me laugh at even the grossest of situations. And that’s something I don’t say lightly. My gag reflex is alive and well. Whaaa? TMI? *shrugs*

    I’ve got you intrigued though, don’t I?

*wags finger* Puh-lease, like I’m going to give you any hint of what I’m talking about *smirks* I’ll put it this way, retching and laughing at the same time is the new thing, lol.

    *coughs*

Right, enough of my nonsense *straightens cuffs*

Insert serious reviewer face - bahahaha, like that’s ever gonna happen.

So, yes, this story can be read as a standalone but as a fan of the series I’ve been eagerly anticipating this release.

I have to put my hands up and confess that Tom wasn’t one of my favourite characters. He’s always had a knack of making my hackles rise. Although I have to give him props. He’s never pretended to be someone he isn’t. He wears his MW badge loud and proud! And at his core, he is fiercely loyal when it comes to his friends.

It’s easy to get caught up in the moment and put your trust in the wrong place. For poor Alice, one rash decision has come back to bite her in the hiney, thanks to an unscrupulous ex. With her business suffering as a result, and a flat mate leaving her high and dry, she’s running out of options. Could Tom be the answer to her prayers?

    *snorts*

Now there’s a sentence I never thought I’d utter *giggles* I totally meant as in the form of her new roomie. Duh!

On paper this looks like a recipe for disaster; commitment-phobe vs. trust issues, meat-eater vs. vegetarian. You catch my drift?

As sparks start to fly, can Alice and Tom put aside their personal issues and take a chance on each other? *shrugs* If only it was that simple, huh? Nothing is plain sailing for these enemies to lovers.

I love how the author doesn’t sugarcoat events with her characters. There may be laughs, but there is a lot of heart. Life isn’t all unicorns and rainbows, and a particular life altering event for one character had me sobbing my heart out as it touched a particularly raw personal nerve. But it made me love Laura even more for it.

With hints to future couplings, I can’t wait to see who’s up next. I can foresee at least two... *winks*

Oh, I loved this contemporary romance. Alice has made sure she did not follow the crowd. In the way she dressed, in her hair colour and in the way she decorated her flat. But modern life and desires caught up with her poor Alice was landed with a villain of a boyfriend who shared her privacy on the internet. She needed a hero to rescue her ... what better to realise he was right under her nose! Tom was someone she had shied away from in the past because all the other women had wanted him, and had him! Set in Brighton, the place where we would all love to live, you'll want Alice to be rescued and loved too. Sigh.
