    In 2017, several authors expressed interest in writing stories for a theoretical “Pennyverse” (author Penny Reid’s Universe) in some capacity (whether that be writing a canon story about new characters within the Pennyverse, writing a continuation of a current couple’s story within the Pennyverse, writing a fanfic in an alternate timeline using Pennyverse characters, etc.) We collated the data we received, marinated in it, and created this collaborative business model.

'"And if I love but once in this cruel, weary world, well, I'm glad I loved once with you."' If you're looking for a high-angst story featuring a couple of jerks, THIS IS NOT THE BOOK FOR YOU. Baking Me Crazy is a sweet friends to lovers romance set in the same universe as Penny Reid's Winston Brother Series. The book is a delightful return to Green Valley, Tennessee and an introduction to some wonderful new characters. The friendship and love between Levi and Jocelyn is peak heart eyes emoji.

    This book was the journey to love, taken by Levi and Joss. They have been friends for 5 years, but Joss is not aware that Levi has been in love with her, this whole time. Joss lives her life confined to a wheelchair, due to her illness, but her intelligence is sharp, as well as her upper body strength is outstanding.
    Joss begins working at the bakery owned by Jennifer Winston, and loves her work. This job helps her be more outgoing and friendly to people. Her libido is on alert, when she meets her new PT trainer. This upsets Levi, because he wants to be the love of her life. Joss learns that her PT is dating someone he hopes to marry, so her desire for him is smashed
    Levi finally admits that he loves her, and it scares her, because she felt like he had lied to her, for the last 5 years. Eventually she comes around, and they begin a relationship. Several episodes occur that almost destroys their relationship, but their love wins each time. They move to another state for Levi’s job, and finally reach their HEA.
    Karla Sorensen is a new-to-me author, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book, written be her. Her characters were well developed, with a great story. I’ll plan to read more books by Ms Sorensen.

    This book was so charming! While it was the first I’ve read by Karla Sorensen, I can say for certain that this will not be the last. I’m already looking forward to the rest of this series!
    The prologue was the perfect set up—the Buchanan family are all “cursed” to fall in love at first sight. When Levi sees, meets, and falls for Jocelyn “Joss” Abernathy, he asks her out to dinner...but she confesses she’s not looking to date and instead could actually use a friend. 5 years later, Joss and Levi are still in the friend-zone.
    I felt bad for Levi wanting out of the friend category, but wanting to respect Joss and her feelings. His family, all suffering the same “curse,” are completely sympathetic to his plight, and they all love and accept his best friend Joss as part of the family.
    I really enjoyed what a strong yet stubborn woman Jocelyn is—she gets in her own way, which is...oh. So. Relatable.
    It was so fun to get glimpses of the Pennyverse (Penny Reid’s universe, in this case, created for the Winston Brothers series), especially Cletus and Jennifer, since Joss gets a job at the Donner bakery!
    Oh! And central to plot and relationship and story? Joss is in a wheelchair. But it’s easy to forget because these characters are so clearly defined, it’s easy to feel like you know them—and they’re not defined by their abilities.

This best friends to lovers story is full of adorable moments from Levi, who is trying to make Joss wise up to his unending love for her and hopefully have her fall head over heals in love with him too. Not only is this slow burn romance hilarious- I LOVED that with this story we are getting a diverse character out of the norm of the romance genre - a young woman in a wheel chair who will not be deterred by her circumstances in order to find love and happiness. AND the added bonus of Levi’s family love curse? I was in heaven with the plot of this story!

    Levi is the epitome of the perfect book boyfriend- a sweet as pie man with a kind heart, a sexy body and a lovable soul. I swear I fell in love with Levi in the prologue- who wouldn’t fall for a man who sees beyond your disabilities to the young, beautiful woman beneath. Plus his family is the BEST - I love a meddling Mom on your side to help get your dream girl.

    And Joss - with her sassy attitude and snarky wit - I absolutely loved her, she had me laughing and cringing at the same time, especially her moments with Joy in the bakery. But her determination and strength is what I admired most, she truly proved that our circumstances do not need to define our happiness and that we can do anything we set our mind to. When she finally wises up to what a catch Levi is -the underlying strong friendship that they shared created a beautiful relationship.

    I would highly recommend this book. 5 Swoon Worthy Stars for me!

    This is my first Smartpants read, and if it's an indication of what the Smartypants world is going to produce, I am seriously going to be poor for the next few weeks as more of them come out!

    The Smartypants books are a collaboration between Penny Reid and other authors chosen by her to expand the beautiful world of Green Valley and the Winston Brothers.

    Karla has done a simply amazing job with this first in the Donner Bakery spin offs. The bakery owned by Jennifer and Cletus Winston sets the backdrop for Joss and Levi's story, it's a friends to lovers story and I cannot gush enough about how sweet and beautiful the relationship between the two grows and develops. Levi is a young man, mature beyond his years and is just an adorable, amazing, wonderful character. Joss is a fiercely independent young woman, she has so much guts and determination, I applaud her. It's a pity she is so clueless to see who is right in front of her, loving her, every day. End with a bit of a *sigh* and heart swell. If you want something good in your life, read Karla's book & read all of Penny's books. You will keep smiling the whole way through.
