The Baron's Destiny (Barons of the Cinque Ports Book 3) Kindle Edition
A second chance at love!
English lord, John Montague is a baron of the Cinque Ports. He's been told by the king he needs to marry right away and produce an heir. While campaigning in France, John is struck by an arrow and thrown from his horse in the midst of a storm. Dangling from a cliff, he calls for help, but isn't happy at all to see his angry ex-wife appear with a bow and arrows in her hands.
Lady Celestine de Bar had married at a very young age. But when the Montague family accused her of being a witch, the marriage ended abruptly. After fourteen years of living a life of hell, she's finally found her chance to change things. She discovers her ex-husband in France, still unmarried, and decides to take matters into her own hands.
However, now she realizes that shooting the man with an arrow might not have been the best way to win him back. She needs him, because she has a secret that she's sure he's not going to want to hear.
Can a man who measures his worth but the things he owns, find happiness with a woman of his past who demands a promise before she'll save his life?

Review
- This is a book filled with emotion. All the characters are so interesting. A few of the secondary characters come from other books in the series, and will make you want to read them. I loved every page. - Amazon Review
- Reading this well written book makes an early period of English -French history come alive. The book is populated with believable characters and the description of the storm that closed Hastings as one of the Cinque Ports is well done. - Amazon Review
- Well developed characters and interesting story about finding love.Recommend this book to all romance readers.Look forward to more books from this author. - Amazon Review
- Elizabeth Rose has a style of writing that is quick to read and one that catches your attention and holds it. I enjoy her characters and the historical quality that she uses to bring her stories together. I also enjoy how she will give at least one of her characters an oddity of sorts that makes her stories entertaining. - Amazon Review
- This story had me laughing, it had suspense, and it includes characters from the first two in the series, along with new ones as well. - Amazon Review
- There is a touch of the paranormal to the story, but I enjoyed it-as the way it was presented in part let the reader decide if the outcome was caused by that, destiny, chance, or free will. - Amazon Review
- When you shed tears on the first page of a story, you know it's going to be a good one. When you can both laugh and cry through the book, it's a hit. The Baron's Destiny was a great end to the Baron trilogy. - Amazon Review

- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2023The love story of John and Celestine. After witnessing her mother burn as a witch, Celestine's father lock her in the tower of his castle. After fourteen year she is free and going to England with her son and husband. Will she find happiness? John was marry when he was 14 year old to Celestine. He was told the marry was annulled but now he has a son and Celestine want him to remarry her. Will he marry her? Great story.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2022I enjoyed John and Celestine’s story. I was a bit confused about their marriage having been annulled because I know that once the marriage is consummated that would be very unlikely. So I was pretty sure that had not happened. The story held my interest throughout and had a happy-ish ending. My only other complaint was that sometimes the language was too modern. Fro example, near the end where John talks about having a second chance at life and he “doesn’t want to blow it. “ Really, just no! That being said, I would still read more books by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2016Celestine de Bar was when she married John Montague. The very next day, her Mother was burned at the stake for a witch. Her father locked her in a tower and told everyone she jumped off of a cliff in her sorrow over her Mother. Move ahead 14 years. She is living in a secluded cottage in the forest with her son, whom she conceived on her only night of marriage. She isn't really a witch, but she has visions and can read the Tarot cards. She knows that her ex-husband is in France and getting ready to go back to England. She knows that the only way she can escape her father is to persuade her ex to take her and their son to England with him. Now the author, Elizabeth Rose, starts writing in her unique style.
She accidentally shoots John with an arrow, gets him to say she will marry her and take her and their child to England. She finds out about John's nightmare, makes friends with the other Cinque Baron's wives and still manages to get into other troubles. This is a great story to read and enjoy. This story can be read alone, but to enjoy all of the other characters, the other 2 Baron stories will give you all the background you need.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2017John was really superstitious about witches so this was quite a problem for him when he thought his wife (or ex-wife) was a witch. That kind of explained why he treated her badly. The boy, Claude, was disobedient and sort of spoiled, but he I thought there were phrases that seemed too modern. The things people did were not sensible to me. It was just OK, in my opinion.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2017Celestine de Bar has lived in virtual isolation since her mother was burned at the stake. That happened just after her wedding, and caused her husband's father to annul the marriage. Now fourteen years later she has a vision that could solve her problems.
Baron John Montague is rushing to get back to his ship before the storm hits. He has a recurring dream of dying in a storm that makes him nervous of them. The last thing he needs is meeting the wife he thought was dead.
Our hero has a real need to control every aspect of his life. When things don't go his way he can be very difficult.
All our heroine wants is the family she has been denied for so long. Her special abilities are sometimes an asset and other times the cause of her problems.
This is a book filled with emotion. All the characters are so interesting. A few of the secondary characters come from other books in the series, and will make you want to read them. I loved every page.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2022I loved the male lead and liked the female lead. The story kept my attention. I didn't remember what the book was suppose to be about until I read it. I have not read the first two books in this series so didn't know the backstory between the couples; I still enjoyed the book.
I found the story sad overall but still a good romance novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2021If you like novels that take you to another time and place, put the characters in life threatening situations, depict horrible punishment, and keep you on the edge of your seat, you might like this story! Honestly, being the wimp I am, I was surprised to find myself so endeared by the heroine, that I wanted to "be there" to support her.
Fresh, unique, and heart stopping, you will be missing out if you pass this skillfully crafted novel ; even if you are a wimp! Hold onto your seat!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2017I read a lot of romance novels. One every 2-3 days. This was hard to finish. In the middle of it, I read a different book and almost didn't come back to this. The characters seem wooden, and have no depth. There is little passion and a great deal of immaturity. The hero is wishy washy and childish and not very smart. I don't know what she sees in him. Then again she seems somewhat childish also--as if they never got past age 14, their ages when they first met. I didn't find much to draw me in to the story, I felt like an outsider reading a book report. The love scenes needed more emotion, more intensity, and it just wasn't there. I dislike having to give a review in the negative, however it is what it is. Not horrible, but not really good.

Very good story.

3.0 out of 5 stars Half fun, half confusing
This book is a hot mess. Some parts are enjoyable, other parts badly written and some bits are utterly confusing.
The start is riveting as a fourteen year old bride watches her mother burned at the stake. Lady Celestine has a horrid life until she is reunited with the bridegroom who left her while her mother burned. Possibly the most unsupportive leading man in HR history Lord John has few redeeming features. At least Kathryn Le Veque's a-hole knights are sexy. Celestine is also hard to warm to. Even though almost thirty her actions are more like a fourteen year olds. It was hard to care whether they got together or not.
While the characters are unlikeable and the plot has gaping holes there are some wonderfully vivid descriptions. The story rolls along at a rollicking pace, so while it annoyed me I did finish it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dislike the paranormal stuff otherwise a good read
I wnjoy some of the authors books and usually only get those with minimal mystic influence or content. This will be deleted as substantial elements referencing tarot and witchcraft with some shape-shifting thrown in as well. Not believable but I enjoyed the characters. I have read other books in the series and enjoyed them, Without the stuff this would have a higher star rating from me.
