Bat Boy (Easton U Pirates Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,311 ratings

Brady Donovan

With a baseball scholarship to Easton University and awesome family and friends, my life is pretty golden. Except, things have never come together for me in the romance department. Until Kellan Crawford walks onto the field as the team’s newest bat boy. Bells and whistles go off in my body, and just like that, I’m totally crushing on a guy for the first time in my life. Too bad he’s the coach’s son and officially off-limits.

Kellan Crawford

I’m working toward my statistics degree, so landing the bat-boy position with the Easton U Pirates is right up my alley. It keeps me close to the action on the field, even if that means hauling equipment, picking up sweaty jockstraps, and putting up with the players’ antics. My dad’s the coach, and his number-one rule is never to play favorites…which probably includes getting too friendly with the team captain. But Brady Donovan’s annoyingly perfect smile and protective nature are making that nearly impossible.

When something shifts between us at an away game, everything is thrown off-kilter. Donovan’s never been with a guy before, and I certainly don’t want to be his test case. But I can’t seem to help myself. He’s sweet and hot and somehow charms the baseball pants right off me. If Coach ever catches wind of this, he’ll bench us both. Disappointing my dad might kill me, but so would losing the guy who makes my heart pound harder than a home run in the bottom of the ninth.

So much for not playing favorites.

I love the "they lived happily ever after" genre with this fitting like a glove. Yes people do live happily ever after but most gay romance storylines are like Disney movies, somebody has to die. Thankfully there are no deaths, drug use or guys with packages as large as the business end of a baseball bat but still some hot sex scenes to complete the read. And for us mushy guys and gals there are a few tear jerker scenes as well. Looking forward to my next installment in this series and hopefully a new author to follow.

So this was an extremely sweet read!
It's been a few days since I finished it, but I still can feel the warm and fluffy emotions flooding through me after I closed the book.
There was quite a lot to love: the MC's, who were both caring and adorable, the secondary characters, sweet, understanding and accepting (Ricky) and other secondary characters that make you curious about a next book, in which you hope to find more about them (Girard, MacLain).
I loved how Kellan took care of Brady, how he wanted things to be good for him once he figured out what he was looking for. Brady's confusion and his coming to terms with his sexuality, felt real. Not rushed, but the way he thought things over and took his time to do so, was done in a way I liked. I guess the word I'm looking for is 'natural'.
The scene in the bar, the one in the locker room where it all comes together, those are just some parts of the book that gave me all the good, fluffy feelings!
It's just the kind of book you'd want to look for when you're in need of something low angst, something sweet and warm with charming mc's.

I haven't read a lot of Christina Lee's books yet. In fact, this was only my second read by her, and I have to say I really enjoy her writing style. This won't be my last read by this author for sure. I'm curious about the next book in these series, but I will be checking out her other books as well.

Brady Donovan is the team captain of his college baseball team. Kellan Crawford is the bat boy, and also the coach's son. He is also the reason that Brady is questioning his sexuality. This gay awakening story was very sweet. The sexual tension between Kellan and Brady was so precious....and the way they longed to be together but knew they couldn't almost broke your heart. The secondary characters in this book were also very interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing how their stories play out.

3.5 star read, rounding up because it ended sweetly.

College NA, Kellen is the coach’s son and team bat boy (and backup statistician) and Donovan is the team captain. The book opens midway through the baseball season, after the guys have known one another for the better part of a year. Kellen’s dad has one request, that he not fraternize with the players (weird rule considering they’re all in college together, but whatever). Kellen likes working with the team, hopes to be a team statistician as a career so he doesn’t want to disappoint his dad. He does his best to avoid Donovan, but it’s hard- Donovan is goofy and outgoing and kind.
This is a slowburn, as these guys fall for one another despite knowing they can’t actually date, both because of coach’s rule but also because Donovan is just figuring out his sexuality and isn’t out.
It took a while for me to get into this, but around 50% it clicked into a good groove and I enjoyed it a lot.

Some romanced with the pace of this kind feel rushed or cheesy, but this was the perfect mix. So many books start Before someone has the revelation they might not be as straight as they thought. This one started out with that premise already on place and I think it helped the pacing of the book so much. I really need the banter and dynamic from everyone in this story. The absence of homophobic characters was refreshing because love is love and everyone deserves to experience that freely.

In total love with this book!

Kellan and Brady are just beautiful. After giving themselves a chance, they knew they couldn’t be apart. After Brady finally fixing out how he really felt, the only thing missing was to finally letting himself love the person he has feelings for the longest.

I’m glad that Kellan took his time to teach Brady and to also accept that his love was stronger than anything else, even his dream job.

The author said this was a sweet story for a time like this and it was everything I needed right now. A journey of finding yourself and falling in love. I’m not really a sports fan but baseball is near and dear to my family so I alway love a love story that involves baseball. The thing I loved most about this story was that even though there was risk, there wasn’t all the drama. There was no one hating, or being crazy mean. It was a team that accepted one another and grew closer. The MC’s were super sweet and I really enjoyed their love. The writing was great, the smexy was really hawt, and the side characters were amazing. They where actually developed side characters. I haven’t read a friend/enemies story in a while after a bad reaction from another author but seeing how sweet this book was if the next book is like this I’d stick my toe in and try again. Plus we will get to see B and K in that one so defiantly might stick my toe in it.

I cannot speak highly enough of this sweet and sexy delight. The main characters are at the core of the book, but there is plenty going on of interest in the background, with many other people to pique your interest.

Kellan and Brady are so cute together, I especially liked that the jock was the one who was floundering in the romance department. Brady was such an endearing character, I loved him to bits. So caring 😍

The story was well written, I fell in love with the MCs, and also some of the secondary characters. I'm already so excited to see what's next, from Ms Lee, who has become one of my favourite authors.

An absolute gem of a book, totally delightful, fun and uplifting. Thank you Ms Lee. I highly recommend this, you won't be disappointed.
