Going to Mardi Gras has been on my bucket list for a long time so I decided to make it happen. It’s everything I wanted my trip to be. The sounds, the sights, the food, the fun, the beads. Right up until it goes south. Typical.

When I see something I shouldn’t, I call my bosses at Higgins Security to get help. I should have listened to them in the first place about going to New Orleans by myself. I can only hope they know someone who can help me.

Everett swooping in to save me is like a romance novel come to life. I trust him to get me out of the mess I’m in, but now my heart is on the line. After the dust settles and we’re safe, I wonder about what happens next because my trip is over and Denver is my home.

I’m not expecting an SOS phone call from someone from my former military days, but I can’t ignore it because we’re brothers borne in blood. Whatever mess the receptionist of my friend’s security company has gotten mixed up in can’t be good. Tourists come in for Mardi Gras blissfully unaware, but the pulse of the city has been going haywire recently.

After meeting Alice, I know I’ll protect her with my life, but I hope I won’t have to. I can picture a life with her, a life better than the sound of jazz playing in the quarter. Once I get her out of the mess she’s gotten mixed up in, I have plans for my Alice.

I’ll show her New Orleans is more than plastic beads and dangerous alleyways. I’m going to figure out a way to stay in her life because she’s mine. Keeping her safe might end up being the easy part, but I’ll figure out a way to show her that by her side is the place for me.
