Evolution - A Fantasy LitRPG (Beast Realms Book 2) Kindle Edition
With the Beast Realms in turmoil and a ragtag group of insanely strong assassins on Team Venom’s tail, their chances of survival are slim. Escaping through man-eating jungles, seeking allies in underwater and treetop cities, Art and his team need to forge alliances to grow stronger.
As he grows in power, Art is able to unlock more and more secrets of his Gray Knight class. But skill alone will not be enough – to beat the overwhelming odds, he must tap into the unbridled power of the Beasts themselves…
Change is coming and the weak will die out – unless they evolve.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2021This is a fantastic book. Two thumbs way up.👍👍. I would add more thumbs, but I only have two. I like the companionship between the main characters and their beasts, the Lord Of The Rings reference from Bilbo Baggins (here is two for you from the movie series The Hobbit from our favorite gray-cloaked wizard Gandalf the Grey, "I believe it's the small things. The everyday acts of kindness and love that keeps the darkness at bay.", and this one, "Take up arms, fight. FIGHT!"), the comparison between Earth Storm and Mjolnir from Norse mythology, the expolration of the different environments, the discovery of the beasts that live in each one, the puzzle solving, the dungeon diving, solving mysteries, the espionage, righting wrongs, proving good triumphs over evil no matter the odds, and Team Venom putting the beat down on powerful enemies, bascically kicking butt and taking names of enemies that are stronger than them and cutting them in tiny little pieces. There is not much I dislike about the books so far. Well besides the fact that Yellow killed Cheena. I had to put the book away for a few minutes after that. She was a brave soul and a true warrior. She will be missed. May her soul rest amongst the stars far from the ones who did her harm. I don't have a lot of friends, well real friends anyway. Besides the characters of the many books I read over the years, but if I did have "real" friends I would definitely point them in your direction. 🐺
- Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2021Amazing new characters, vehicles, locations, skills, and races. New abilities abound as our favorite Lacerta and Halfling join the Alliance to fight the king’s mad scheming!
Jumping right back in from where we left off, team Venom was captured, collared with anti-magic devices and their gems taken. An incredible adventure is upon them so get comfortable friends. For something new is around every corner as the team bounces around on missions throughout their corner of the world. A devastating new enemy begins falling from the sky, and it seems more sinister plans are afoot.
Ship captain Kes’s oyster was a life saver and I enjoyed seeing the different creatures and their abilities throughout the books. Team Venom’s adventures through multiple biomes with different creatures. Amazing locations like Monkey Island and its Beast Rider tribe have their own flavor of challenges and missions but much to teach Venom.
Artheim’s newest skill is one anyone would want! The evolutions that Nails and Art go through are a wild idea that has me excited for their next upgrades.
What does this new world have to show us? In both novels they discover different challenges and people in the zones they travel to while pursuing quests, just like an MMORPG!
I only wish I could play a game with evolving races and creatures.
Worth the read!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2021Pro: The new friends, foes, beasts, and gear are creative and cool. The finale fight sequence is suitably grand.
Con: The pacing lacks tension in much of the middle portions, making the book relatively easy to set down every few chapters. That's not bad if you're a "read a few chapters before bed" type, but it's not a "can't put it down" story this time if that's what you were looking for.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2021Picking up directly from where the last cliffhanger left us in the previous part, Team Venom continue their quest into the game of beast realms.
What I liked about this novel was that the focus of the novel shifts adversaries from those in the first novel. It builds on some of the encounters in the previous novel without leaving the reader bored from reading about the same challenge ad nauseam.
My big dislike is that once again there is a cliffhanger. Not quite as bad as last time but thoroughly annoying.
This installment of the trilogy is not earth shattering but it is definitely a nice read and worth the trouble.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2021Really good follow up to the 1st book, and story unravel while adding further por, what I like and hate most of this book is how the MC power are kept in check, not miraclesly turning him OP.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2021Art/Artheim and Xun/Nux continue their adventures in the Beast Realms VRMMORPG that offers them some escape from the reality of their nearly dead post-apocalypse world. The game world grows more complex as the two adventurers become embroiled in a civil war and loose some allies while gaining others and facing greater challenges from both characters and beasts.
And the author writes puns, some are bad, some are good, and some are clever -- a few are charming.
This novel will likely appeal to fans of the Fantasy and LitRPG genres; as well as those who enjoy playing RPGs.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2021This story overall was more entertaining than book 1, with quests spanning multiple areas of the game world. There are some logical issues as to why the game would present such a high level quest to two fairly low level people. But it makes sense since they only received this quest because they had spurned the King at the end of Chrysalis. Also, there is a severe editing mistake that makes a prominent NPC seem at best completely ridiculous if not mentally deficient [spoiler at end].
The portions outside of the game were okay. They demonstrated understandable growth within Art's character. However, the fact that Art has not discussed his experiences in Beast Realms (especially geeking out over Nails) with his Zoology Professor who introduced the game to him is both surprising and disappointing.
*Spoiler* Fin was present when Art told Tsunami that the leader of The Alliance against King Lionheart was Princess Lionheart, the King's daughter. [paperback page 206] Fin even commented on that revelation and how Tsunami views the spawn of the King as no different than the King himself. [page 207] Later, when Team Venom and Fin arrive at Monstro, Fin completely freaks out and acts as if he had no idea Princess Lionheart was the leader of the Alliance. [pages 238-41] *Spoiler*

5.0 out of 5 stars Scalily good
This is quite a different outlook on the usual LitRPG and from book 1 I like how the mad power levelling hasn't went crazy and we feel a bit more of that bond from Art especially as they progress. Looking forward to book 3 as they face an even larger threat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great second book
I enjoyed this just as much as the first. Good character progress. Lots of new faces and new relationships. If you enjoyed the first book, then you will definitely enjoy this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great read
Just finished book 2. Enjoyed it as much as Chrysalis. The characters have grown a lot since the first book. Still has the references coming through from the first book. A little more subtle this time. Still caught them. I'm looking forward to future books in the Beast Realm series. Mother Clucker was an unexpected favourite.
