BEDBUGS (Can you see them?): An alien flesh-eating insect story Kindle Edition

3.8 out of 5 stars 20 ratings

How can you kill something so small, so fast, that only appears at night?

The old saying -
‘NIGHT, NIGHT, SLEEP TIGHT & DON’T LET THE BEDBUGS BITE’ - becomes more than just words after a mother speaks it to her child, in this story set in a small, British town infested with tiny, killer, alien insects.

Riddled with suspense and terror, the sleepy town of Lemonsville is in for a shock when a series of grisly murders occur in the same street.
The local Police Chief is tasked with finding the killer, but as he delves deeper into the case it soon becomes clear that this is no ordinary murderer.
Could the answer to Lemonsville's woes lie in the mysterious UFO crash of 1947, and the alien bedbugs it brought with it? The Police Chief must uncover the truth before the nocturnal creatures strike again.
If you enjoy suspenseful creature feature-style horror stories, then this book is sure to appeal to you.
Packed with traces of comedy and gripping moments that will have you on the edge of your seat, this story will leave you wondering if you should dare say the old bedtime adage ever again.
Buy now and experience the horror of the alien bedbugs of Lemonsville for yourself!

"This story starts with a gruesome bang and does not let up until the very end. I love a good creature feature and Bedbugs did not disappoint." - taken from a review on Amazon USA

LEE ANDREW TAYLOR – WRITER’S BIO TO DATE -

Lee Andrew Taylor was born in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, UK, in 1969, moving to Bedworth, Warwickshire at the age of 9. All his life he's had a passion for creating things, whether it was new games to play with family and friends, drawing, or creating a story.

It was 1993 when Lee first dabbled in writing as an adult. He was at college when someone asked if he would enter a writing contest with other students. He agreed, and that's when the first idea for his killer rats novel - The S.T.A.R.S Project - came about. He wrote around 30 pages and kept the story safe, but in August 2018 it was released on Amazon in Kindle, Paperback, Hardback & Audio.

In 1999, at the age of 30, Lee bought his first computer from a friend and immediately got down to writing a story that was growing inside his head from when he watched his first zombie movie as a child. CLIFTON FALLS - was originally finished in 2001, but wasn't released until around 2011. Lee has since re-released it as a 2-part novel with added scenes. Part 1 was released in May 2021 in Kindle, Paperback, Hardback, & Audio, with part 2 being released in July 2022.

Part 3 of CLIFTON FALLS was released in October 2023. It is available in Kindle, Paperback, Hardback, & as an Audiobook.

Lee is hoping to release part 4 of Clifton Falls in the spring of 2025

Lee has also written - BEDBUGS (Can you see them?) - A story based on his childhood fear of the old saying - Night, night, sleep tight & don't let the bedbugs bite - Where he thought the bedbugs were really going to bite him if he didn't sleep tight.

It was originally released in 2012, but was re-released with extra scenes in July 2020.

In 2015, Lee received a phone call from a movie Producer/Director, asking him to write a Vampire horror/dark comedy screenplay. At that time, Lee hadn't written a screenplay before, but as he writes stories that take readers into his imaginary world, he gave it a go. He wrote the screenplay in 6 weeks. He was grateful for the opportunity. Since then, Lee has written 13 screenplays with some being optioned by movie Producers.

He's had conversations with the likes of Elijah Wood's (Lord of the Rings) & Joe Dante's ( Director of Gremlins) production companies about some of his scripts and has even spoken to Anthony C Ferrante (Director of the Sharknado movies) on Skype about his Bedbugs idea.

In 2019, Lee was hired to write a sci-fi, horror TV pilot for Dark Image Studios in the UK, where he received a letter of recommendation for his professional attitude and ability to write a story based on a single paragraph idea.

In 2023, Lee's ghost story screenplay - RECALL - was optioned by a British Producer, but sadly, the option agreement ended in May 2024.

So far in 2024, Lee has been speaking with a Producer in Canada about his zombie novel series - CLIFTON FALLS - There has been interest in it & a few of his horror screenplays.

To date - Novels - CLIFTON FALLS - parts 1, 2 & 3 / BEDBUGS (Can you see them?) / The S.T.A.R.S Project

To date - scripts - The Lollipop Lady (revenge thriller) / The Soul Guardian (horror/thriller) / Recall (supernatural thriller) / The Plan (revenge thriller) / Shark Cove (A killer shark horror) / The cat that fetches (family-based serial killer thriller) / Blood Twins (A vampire horror/dark comedy) / The Devil's Diary (Horror) / The land at the end of the trees (A children's adventure story) / Dead Gulch (A zombie western) / Clifton Falls (A zombie horror) / The S.T.A.R.S Project (A killer rats horror) / Death Shadow (Sci-fi, alien insect horror based on his bedbugs novel)

This was my first by Lee Andrew Taylor and Wow, I loved it!! I actually enjoyed it enough that I bought the rest of his books the day I was done 😃 This is an alien infused creature feature and a cop drama with a really fun sense of humor throughout that I appreciated. The kills were surprisingly brutal and creative. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say the bugs are more savage in their speed and workings than you can imagine! This book is very easy to imagine as a movie and is written in a way that flows like something I could, and definitely hope to see made into a movie or mini-series someday!

I love this book...it’s a different twist on a bug hoard story as these nasty critters are aliens as well. The police are doing everything in their power to stop them but the bugs are little eating machines! We find out there is a huge hungry queen bug doing her share of killing & eating as well. The story is imaginative & very well written. Lee Taylor is an awesome horror writer with a very creative mind! If you like creature/critter stories with a good bit of gore & and an interesting story to bring it all together, give this author a go...& remember don’t let the bedbugs bite!

I tried so hard to like this. It's terrible. Writing is horrible. At times it feels like something written by someone who is just learning the English language.
How did this get any good reviews?

After seventy-three years of lying dormant under Lemonsville, an old terror has awakened, and it is STARVING.
One by one the town’s citizens, both young and old, animal and human, are attacked and used to revive a horde of alien insects bent on world domination.
A group of dedicated police officers set out to contain and destroy the threat to Lemonsville’s citizenry and solve why they are being brutally slaughtered or disappearing without a trace. Even if it means they die trying.

Right from the first page, I knew this was going to be a fun, gory trip of a book. It grabs you by the wrist and pulls you along to fight these bloodthirsty bugs. No one is safe in Lemonsville—young children, elderly persons, animals; everyone and everything is on the menu for the Bugs. So let this be your trigger/content warning.
The story had great pacing and flow; my attention never once wavered. There was great chemistry between the cops themselves, as well as with most of the townsfolk. You feel the dread and fear of the victims, and the anger of the townsfolk who want answers as to what and who is causing scene after scene of carnage. If you weren’t afraid of bugs before this, you will be now.
Even though the story is bloody and brutal, there are moments of hilarity and some tongue-in-cheek jokes. I loved the camaraderie between the officers of the force and their chief.
All in all, I really enjoyed Bedbugs, and I’m never going to bed without checking under my bedsheets again.

I was contacted by the author to review this novel. I was NOT provided a copy in exchange for my honest review. This was mainly due to formatting etc(seriously I need to either buy a new Kindle or convert to reading on my I-Pad but that's older too! LOL). However since I have Kindle Unlimited and the book sounded right up my alley I decided to read it.

I freely admit that it took a few chapters to adjust to Taylor's writing style. I immediately thought to myself I wonder if he writes screenplays. So as I read, I decided for myself to think of this as a screenplay or movie formula. Imagine to my surprise, once I got to the author page at the end of the book, that yes Taylor has written screenplays. And if you take a chance on this novel, just keep that in mind as you read and (hopefully)stick with it.

Taylor's got a mixture of both wit and a juvenile sense of humor at times throughout Bedbugs, but that's fine by me! Seriously-from characters names to pranks and the like...Bedbugs is over the top and definitely not for the squeamish!

The concept of the novel was fresh (I mean it's killer mutant bedbugs LOL)and made for a quirky read. Bedbugs doesn't take itself too seriously and neither should you.

If you are the type of reader that can look and read a book with a different eye (again seriously- read this as if it were a screenplay)then I think you'll love it. Plus I could totally see Bedbugs as one of those brilliant cheesy fun SYFY movies.

PS-That ending begs for a sequel!

PPS-I'd like to thank Taylor for reaching out to me and bringing this book to my attention.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bugs! Gore! Bad humour!

Alien bugs decimate a small town. Police attempt to stop them. Enjoyable yet flawed creature horror which feels like a throwback to the glory days of Guy N Smith. Plenty of gore straight from the start but unlike Smith's often short novels I felt this was a tad overlong. The comedy element was a bit hit and miss and there were a lot of moments when the characters became teary eyed for one reason or another. Trimmed down, this could be a great little horror. Saying that, it's worth your time of you fancy something easy to read.
