Better Confess: an online forum where you can anonymously reveal your darkest thoughts and actions. But be careful what you write. When Florence Lynch finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her, she feels like her whole world has collapsed. In a drunken rage, she confesses that she wishes he was dead. And someone offers to help…

Praise for Better Confess:

"Filled with twists you won't see coming, Better Confess is a book that soars over its competition. I promise you that it will stay with you long after you've turned the final page. Read it for the thrills as well as the top-notch humour." -
The Financial Daily

"The book gives us a glimpse into what can happen if we indulge our most primitive impulses. In this case, the all-consuming need for revenge. Gorevan is a very visual writer which has a transporting effect on the reader. As for his ability to build suspense and tension? It just about kills you. There are a couple of twists in “Better Confess” to which the only possible response is a loud expletive, expelled at high volume. Gorevan’s plotting is first class. Every strand is tied together expertly, resulting in an extremely compulsive and satisfying read. “Better Confess” is a great introduction to the scope of Alan Gorevan’s writing and once you’ve experienced the world through his eyes, you will never look back." -

Better Confess is everything you hope for in a mystery thriller. Characters that come right off the page and get right in your face, evoking strong emotions. Florence the protagonist, is that character. She hires a hit man to kill Simon, her sweet and thoughtful boyfriend, then throw in a few brilliantly portrayed hit men! The chapters go back and forth with two stories going simultaneously. After each chapter, you're left hanging wanting more. The plot is strong and very well executed. It's captivating and I was anxiously awaiting the next time I could steal a few minutes to sit and continue this fast-paced adventure with so many creepy characters. The writing is done so seamlessly, that the two stories begin to meld together, as the unforgettable climax gets closer. I guarantee you that you will never see the many twists that come before this mind-blowing ending. Alan Gorevan is one of my go-to authors that never disappoints! Highly Recommend! 5 Stars!

This story takes place in two countries--Ireland and England. In London, Thomas Ogden, a killer-for-hire kills a man who had a mistress on the side. He gets his target assignments through an anonymous forum called Better Confess where people are free to vent their anger or confess to things they wanted to have done. In Dublin, a quick-tempered and suspicious woman named Florence observe her lover Simon kiss her best friend Hazel. Little does she know that Simon was going to propose to her that evening. But believing he is having an affair with her she blows him away and gets drunk in her apartment. She loses control of herself and somehow logs into the Better Confess site, where, she , in a rage, confessed that she wants to kill him. Thomas, checking that site, gets Florence to pay a large sum of money in bit coins to have Simon killed. Sober the next day, she realizes her tragic mistake and takes steps to prevent his murder. Will she succeed? This novel takes some interesting twists which I can't reveal. Although I found one part of story hard to believe--the scene where, although drunk, she is able to pay Thomas a huge down payment. Overall, however, I found this to be a very enjoyable read.

I LOVED this book! From the very beginning when the author introduced the four main characters, I knew that the story would be juicy. When spoiled Daddy’s girl Florence gets the wrong idea about her boyfriend and her friend, she loses her mind and drunkenly makes a horrible mistake she can’t fix. Her decisions get worse and worse and it’s not only her life in danger but nearly everyone around her. The twists and turns with mounting suspense had me hooked! If you like suspense, intrigue, humor, and relationship drama, you don’t want to miss this one😄

I saw it on Instagram and intended only to have a look, but I ended up reading it in one sit. Entertaining and well put together.

If nothing else, Better Confess is a great argument for why “an online forum where you can anonymously reveal your darkest thoughts and actions” would be a really bad idea. We all have dark thoughts that should never see the light of day, and this thriller pricks at our inner-guilt over having such thoughts. The basic premise is an updated riff on an old theme, but the story overcomes the familiarity. Nicely written, this brisk novel is worth a read.

Once again, I’m super impressed with Gorevan’s writing abilities. This thriller was fast-paced, and I loved the twist at the end. But mostly, I thought this book was unique and interesting because I thought all six of the main characters were terrible people and I wasn’t really rooting for anyone, although I wanted things to work out and people not to die (well, as much as one does in thrillers).

I have yet to read a book by Alan Gorevan that I am not obsessed with.

I couldn't put this book down. I read the entire book in one sitting. It had me turning page after page. I loved the development of the characters. Jill's character was unexpected although I didn't particularly like the ending. I like romance so I like happily ever after. The plot moved quickly and was well written. Definitely a good book for mystery lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alan Gorevan is the next Lee Child! Unmissable talent

I finished this book in a single sitting. I literally could not tear my eyes away from it. This is masterful storytelling. The suspense and jaw dropping twists Gorevan throws at the reader will keep them gasping for more. With some of the most memorable characters I have ever read, this book has truly challenged the rules of crime fiction. It shows that while a true crime thriller has to be fast-paced and intelligent, it can also be funny and entertaining. This book grabs you from the first page and refuses to let you go until you've turned the final page. Alan Gorevan is an exceptionally talented author and his grip on characterisation, dialogue, plot and POV is remarkable. I don't think I will be forgetting Florence anytime soon. Unputdownable but also extremely entertaining, I would highly recommend this book. I'd give it 100/10 if I could. Read it. You won't regret it.

I read Better Confess after a meme on Twitter piqued my interest... you know who you are! I'd already read The Kindness of Psychopaths so knew Alan Gorevan was a great story teller... BUT.

Nothing prepares you for this fast paced, thriller of a story that doesn't simply grab you by the throat and toss you down the stairs, it kicks you out the door and all the way to Claremorris... which looks really nice BTW and might be in for a visit now I intend travelling closer to home for the foreseeable.

Anyway, what a corker. I usually write screeds for my reviews but why bother. This is a brilliant book that I enjoyed over two days. I would have read it all yesterday but my husband seems to believe we need to engage with one another of an evening, so I was forced to cast aside Florence, Jill, Simon, Kim et al and be a good little wifie.

Read it. You won't regret it.

This book really has some legs. It starts at a sprint and never seems to get tired.

The exchanges between characters are snappy and the narrative moves nicely to the moments where I kept thinking ‘I did not see that coming’ numerous times. This was especially the case with the well crafted ending. The characters are believable and the situations they find themselves in had me cringing for their sakes. Anyone on the hunt for a fast paced, punchy thriller will enjoy spending the few hours it takes to read this book. Highly recommended!

After reading The Kindness of Psychopaths, I was keen to read more of Alan Gorevan's excellent crime stories. And Better Confess did not disappoint. A short novel, but one packed with a strong narrative, twists and turns, excitement and a story that demands you keep turning the pages. The short chapters are like heartbeats or hammer blows, pulsating through the story or smacking you in the face with surprise.
Another excellent book that I read in a little over a day.
If you like fast past, excellent story telling, you need to read Better Confess by Alan Gorevan.

This novel was a bit different to your average thriller - the premise was certainly unique. The main character wasn't the most likeable but I still enjoyed finding out what would happen and rooted for the characters in different ways. The dual perspectives worked well and I kept turning the pages to see how things would be resolved. There's also a twist at the end. Hope you enjoy the read like I did!
