Fast paced adventure with tons of mind bending concepts and characters.
Humans are at the bottom of the food chain and don't even know it.
John Smith is a mediator for ... Well you'll see.

For some odd reason I find myself looking forward to The adventures of John he's not like other UF characters staff in hand smiting his foes with the forces of nature. And thank goodness this is not a vamp love story I won't touch those. I like how how a person who is not imposing surrounded by allies and enemies who can beat him any day of the week survives by wit, spunk and lots of luck. I enjoyed book one a little bit better only because I did not care for the flash forwards though this one had better interactions between characters I enjoy the dynamic between John and Lucia and John and Juliette. Another point I liked is seeing John may have deeper depths and strengh/abilities then most suspect. I really liked when the author said the next book should be out by summer so I would recommend this series and also the other series he writes.

I've been reading superhero novels for the last few years. That is not at all what this book (or series) is about, but his Murder of Crows series is easily one of the best of its kind I've had the privilege to consume (and I do mean consume; I tore my way through them and then and the novelettes in a matter of days, and nights...I literally could not put them down). There's just something about his tone and style, and while this series is altogether different (in tone and style as well as content) it still has his glorious sense of humor and sarcasm, but this series has even more of it! And while I normally enjoy connecting with heroes that are above average, John Smith's complete "averageness" is exactly what makes him so likeable! I'm very much looking forward to the rest of this series!

For some reason, there is nothing as satisfying and delightful as stumbling upon a word like gobbledygook in a book. This series has been fun, surprising, adventurous and so very enjoyable! Highly recommend.

If the pack in question is niggle of mediators, John Smith is its leader. The fact that he's so not the leader of the werewolf pack he's taken on as his new client could potentially get him killed, which would be bad because I really like John.

I jumped right into this book after reading Book 1, Investigation, Mediation, Vindication, and I was not disappointed. Well, maybe except for the werewolves. I'm not a fan of werewolf fantasy. They don't even exist in my novel's supernatural taxonomy, but that's neither here nor there as it turns out that the litigating werewolves in this story, and the awful thing about their lives, struck a chord. I felt for them, and I wanted the young couple to solve their problems.

Blood is Thicker than Lots of Stuff was a great romp, and John did not disappoint. He's still feeling his way, clumsily, into both his new and perilous job and into adulthood—at the same time. It's a lot to handle all at once. And he does the best he can under the circumstances, from which any average investigator (I was one) would run screaming. Also, adulthood isn't always all it's cracked up to be.

If I have one complaint, it's that my favorite character, Bill, aka Lord Beel-Kasan, was mostly missing. But John's attempt to babysit the enigmatic if delightful Jee Sun mostly made up for it.

If you like funny urban fantasy, buy this book and read this series. You're welcome.

I like these books. They’re light-hearted but with enough supernatural adventure to keep my interest. I hope that I’m guessing correctly and the main character is going to be getting tougher because, quite frankly, I’m getting a little tired of him getting knocked out or passed out every other chapter. But that is the only complaint I have and am already looking forward to the next installment of the series.

First, the vampires weren't the usual cliché, then the werewolves aren't either. I really love how the author re-imagined the genre and bring a surprisingly fresh new take on something so overused!

2.0 out of 5 stars Zu viele Erklärungen zum ersten Teil
Reviewed in Germany on August 5, 2022

Lives up to the first book. I love the characters, especially the unheroic hero! Great plot, great supernatural stuff, with a wonderfully crazy asparagus demigod.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST, MUST, MUST READ!
Reviewed in Canada on April 27, 2021
At last, the sequel to Investigation, Mediation, Vindication is here! I’ve been waiting for this book for an entire year and my life is now complete!
I kid, but only a little.
So, John Smith, private eye and mediator for the supernatural world in San Diego is back and he hasn’t changed a bit. He’s even kidnapped and naked again! He may not find it amusing, but I do.
This time, his finds himself mediating for werewolves instead of vampires. Werewolves and vampires aren’t your thing? Doesn’t matter! They play a role in the story (which is brilliantly plotted and executed, by the way) but it’s not about them…
It’s about John, whose mediating skills are actually quite brilliant (and highly entertaining), regardless of what he might think.
Sure, he’s a magnet for disaster and ALWAYS in the wrong place at the wrong time but he handles this with aplomb. He even manages to find time for a well-deserved shower and sandwich on occasion.
My favorite character Bill (aka Demigod of Nightmares, Terror, and Vindication) didn’t make much of an appearance in this book, but his ward Jee Sun more than made up for it by stealing the show. John’s attempts to “babysit” this “little girl” were hilarious, heartwarming, and a side story all on their own.
So, as usual with this author’s works, I recommend this book to all humans, vampires, werewolves, Demigods, etc.
And thank Lord Beel-Kasan, I will not have to wait long for the next installment, Ghost of a Chance, which is set to release this summer!
