- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWho’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf will suck you in. Janie Marie’s writing is so intense and well written and full of little nuances that you’ll want to read it again and again to pick up everything!
Kylie is such an interesting main character because she is hidden away and abused but you see these glimpses of a truly jealous girl underneath the Hood. It’s also hard seeing her be mean to my girl, Jane!
Logan is such a well rounded bad boy because he has those bad ass vibes without being an a-hole and you can tell he truly wants the best for every one around him that he cares about
Janie and Ryder are just...my favorite in every alternate reality of God’s and Monsters. The fierce love they always have for each other breaks my heart, but also fills me with immense joy.
This AU of God’s and Monster’s is so well written with just enough hints of that trilogy that it will truly suck you in! I highly, HIGHLY recommend this book and cannot WAIT for the rest of the trilogy!
i received an arc in exchange for my honest review!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOMG! This book has everything you want in it - heat, sexy bad boys, secrets - it's all here in this book.
Though this book does tie into the Gods and Monsters trilogy, I feel that this series will be able to be read as a stand alone series, though as the author states at the beginning of the book, you may feel left out when references are made.
This book was beautifully written, and it captured my heart from the very beginning. I adore every single main character. My heart goes out to Kylie and Janie for different reasons as their pain resonates deep within me. This book made my heart physically ache as I read it. At some points, I even had to put it down to give my poor heart a chance to recover.
There are so many secrets and twists in this book. It will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. And though this book does end on a cliffhanger, this book is definitely worth it, and I know the second and third books will be just as amazing as this one!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI would give it five stars but it bothered me a lot how dismissive Kylie was towards Janie's rape because she was jealous. Kylie went through a lot of abuse herself and she gives off a bit of naivety, so character wise I would expect her to be more sympathetic towards Janie's past. She mentions others rumors but she has been subjected to them as well. I dont know it just bothered me a lot and seemed out of character for a victim of abuse. Me personally, I would never dismiss someone's rape no matter how jealous I am. It became hard to read when she kept doing that. No character is perfect, but I guess since I know people who've experience that and read stories about other people being sexually assaulted, it just bothered me a lot. Anyway I love the writing. I read this book first on wattpad but I wanted to keep supporting you so I bought this along with the rest of the Gods and Monster trilogy. Going to read those after finals. I hated how you were bullied about naming one of the characters after yourself. Honestly I've done it to, I'm sure 98% picture themselves as the main character. Sorry there is no paragraph breaks. I'm writing this on my phone. Again I am a big fan!!! Can't wait to read the sequel. Sorry for the not so informative review lol.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSo its years later or maybe just a year but i still love this book. i just reread it and it still gives everything it was meant to like on wattpad. It still shows how to perserve when your at your lowest. i love love love this book and if you are in need of finding yourself this book is for you. IT WILL SHOW YOU THAT YOU ARE NOT ALONE IN YOUR FEELINGS AND THAT YOU TOO CAN LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER .
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2020Format: KindleThe cover snagged my attention, and the title... it had great reviews and an interesting book description so I decided to give it a chance. While I loved the fairytale aspect, and Kylie falling for bad boy Logan, the story was okay but fell short of being great.
First, this review is only my opinion... everyone is entitled to their own. I just didn’t experience this story the same way others have.
As I mentioned, I love fairytales, but trying to have more than one in the same book made it unravel a bit. Focusing on Red Riding Hood would have streamlined the story quite a bit, instead of adding a Cinderella aspect with Kylie’s family. Setting up additional stories or spin-off series is always great, but this one just felt a little too forced and threw off the flow of the story.
Kylie’s character is so erratic in her thoughts and behavior it nearly gave me whiplash. I understand she’s in high school, but this went beyond adolescent tendencies. While her feelings of insecurity are understandable for someone who’s been horribly abused, the speed with which she jumps from feeling almost giddy over Logan’s attention to feeling ugly and like he’s using her (sometimes within seconds), and the numerous times she thinks it or brings it up is rather exhausting.
Logan kind of sucks as a book hero. Tattooed bad boy sounded promising, but I found little to make me like him. There are times I really liked his character and how he wanted to protect Kylie, but his focus on Janie and the way he constantly makes her seem more important than his supposed girlfriend was beyond irritating. His mood shifts were as abrupt as Kylie’s and made for a chaotic read.
Both characters were all over the place mentally and emotionally. Instead of adding a layer of drama, it came across as a bit of a mess. As much as I’d like to find out what happens between Logan and Kylie, and whether or not Kylie’s step family pays the price for their cruelty, I think I’ll have to give part two a pass.
I liked the idea of fairytales based on true families and the unique spin the author tried to give each fairytale character. And the cover really is spectacular. This book just wasn’t a good fit for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was in for a surprize
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI thought this would be a full romance book and the guy saves the girl. NOPE, I was wrong, but the book was still amazing. I read all three books in 2 days. The series does talk about some sensitive topics and not everyone will be okay with that. These books were written very well and addressed sensitive topics very well. The second & third books talk about the topics a lot more but it is well done. I love these three books and I'm going to read her other series that has three books. The other series should be read first before these three books. It does say in this first book that the other series should be read first but i did not lol.

5.0 out of 5 stars So addictive!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWho's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? is a YA bildungsroman (coming of age) novel about an abused and isolated seventeen-year-old girl, Kylie Hood, as she falls in love for the first time.
From the moment they first meet, Kylie and Logan's connection is palpable, addictive, and it had me wanting to read more. I couldn't put it down. I'm neither a fan or a hater of the fake romance trope, but I thought it worked really well in this novel, especially because there were a few twists along the way that made it different to any other fake romance I've read in the past. I also love how Kylie and Logan both make mistakes, but I ended up rooting for them anyway - they're messed up, but despite that I loved following their journey, and I'm so keen to see where it goes in the next book!
I also loved how the fairy tales were incorporated into the book. It's a spin-off series from Marie's first trilogy, Gods & Monsters (I highly recommend these books too btw!), but draws from fairy tales like Cinderella and Red Riding Hood (its namesake). I love fairy tales and I love seeing them adapted to fit today's world, and I felt like the ties between fairy tales and this book were really well done. It was never pervasive or cliché, and I really appreciated that subtlety.
I would highly recommend this book to any reader interested in YA, fairy tales and fairy tale adaptations, romance (particularly the fake romance trope), and bildungsroman (coming of age). Also, if fantasy, apocalypse lit., and/or mythology is your thing, I would recommend reading the Gods & Monsters trilogy first - they're right up your alley, and you'll avoid spoilers if you read them first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing read
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhen I found Janie's book I was so confused why there aren't more readers reading this. This series has so many twists and turns and gives each reader a chance at subconsciously personally develop as you learn about each character. This is anything but an ordinary book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but hard to read
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseReally liked the premise of this book and the characters and the way the story goes so far...I'm torn about our so called leading lady kylie...I think it's just the way my feels react to her trying to navigate through her relationship in this book, the boyfriend and the ex being besties 2.0 version and yes I get the background but I guess I'm more of lover of the Ryder male reaction and devotion to his lady...
Great read for those who like intricate and detailed telling of a warped version of a few fairy tales...As that aspect of the book I loved.
It's gripping and heart hurting and frustration as hell the relationships but being wrapped in a good story helps...
