    I want to start off by saying the Narrators were great! I loved the audio and it helped me get through the book.
    However, although I really wanted to love this book it fell short for me. But maybe MC books might just not be my vibe. Hearing women being called B!tches all the way through the book is not definitely not my vibe. And after the dog crate there was no redemption to me. The last bit of the book for me was definitely better than the 1st half. But it just wasn’t for me.
    Check your triggers before reading. And if you really like MC books, you would probably like this one .

    I found this author because I read conversion and really liked it. I enjoyed how this author writes and the respect that she had for her Black heroine, so I decided to try another of her books. I will say I did like it, hence the 4 stars, but what Birdie went through was rough. I straddle the line with my romance books, I love forbidden, taboo, and definitely owym, I even love a good romantic suspense. But, it is hard for me to stomach reading about the torture of woman, that takes the romance part out of it for me. I just kept thinking that she needed therapy and we needed to see that development. If you’re going to give your readers torture in a romance, let us see how the heal because I’ll tell you what as sweet as the couple was her healing meant more to me.

    So yes, this book was good. But, I’ll recommend it only if you have the stomach to handle a young woman being mentally and physically broken. Personally, it’s not my type of romance, but this author is so good! Onto the next one, if I can stomach it.

The transition from innocent naivety to scarred growth is a personal source of validation for me and others who have been broken and trying to leave the pain in the past. Exploring a healthy relationship when you're lost and trying to figure out how to pick up the pieces is expertly done. Kudos to the author for depicting the process. I love it and I am seeing a lot of myself in the fmc. Definitely recommend this book.

    This is a wonderfully dark romance! There’s something about Walker’s writing that I adore, and I suspect that regardless of the tropes, I’ll love everything she writes!
    This book isn’t for the faint of heart, as it does deal with very difficult topics. I love books that skirt the edge of being almost too dark without quite crossing the line, and this fit this for me perfectly. I’m absolutely thrilled to see that Roch’s book is second in the series, and I will be devouring that next!
