About the author

A Grenadian transplant, Avril now lives in Tucker, GA, with a madly tolerant husband. Together they raise an eccentric daughter who’s pretty meh about reading and school. Avril’s earliest memories of reading revolve around discussing the plot points of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys with an equally book-minded mother.
Always in love with the written word, Avril finally decided to do the writing in August of ’09 and never looked back. She’s been nominated for numerous awards, including Best Author, Best series (Brooklyn Sinners), and Favorite All-Time Author. In 2013 Avril won Evernight Publishing’s Reader’s Choice Award for the LGBT (Male/Male) category. Recently she took home the Golden Ankh award for best Male/Male romance for her bestselling novel, Sinner’s Fall.
Addicted to cake, the ID Channel, and the UFC, Avril writes Gay and Erotic Romance with happy endings; she remains a believer of love in all its forms.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2020This book was so good. I enjoyed it a lot. It contains so much angst. These guys are in the most unhealthy relationship one could think of. When one of them is out of the other’s life, it turns into obsession and stalking, but things mellow out when they are actually together. One thing they didn’t lack was chemistry. They were scotching.
The thing I really loved about this book is the way mental illness was discussed and treated. Mental illness has always had a stigma, but it’s even worse in the black community. So to see this MC getting the love, support and the help he needed from his family, was truly beautiful.
My issue with the book was, they were both too very emotional. When I saw that one of the MC was a former gang leader, I was expecting a whole lot more than what I got.

I know I’m gonna be the only one on this, but I wished they hadn’t ended up together. I think I got a bit invested in Bishop’s illness and treatment that I think Preacher was right, these guys are not good for each. Bishop needed time to live fully without Eddie, and learn how to love himself properly and not just talk.
Overall the book was amazing. I enjoyed every bit of it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2021I found this book because of another dark and poignant journey written by Avril, (Call the Coroner and Dig Your Own Grave. As an aside, glad to see Toro remains dedicated to his affections/intentions for Saraphina.) and, much like that duet, this story depicts two very flawed men as they grapple with their independent demons and realize the depths of their shared demons. Told in a dual POV structure, the narrative’s focus favors Bishop’s journey to redemption but is still respectful of Eddie’s journey of enlightenment. Neither man ends the story seeing himself, his world, or the other in the same way as they did at the beginning.
The chemistry between the two leads was both enthralling and frustrating at times. The pacing felt authentic and appropriate for most of the narrative but I still felt like we were deprived of some of their quieter moments - which made sense given Bishop’s head space. Getting to see more of their non-sexual chemistry would have further reinforced Eddie’s own instinctual determination.
The narration itself is written in a very natural vernacular that feels authentic to each POV. This was one of its biggest strengths because it truly immersed you in a head space that many might be avoid. Bishop’s decisions and thoughts felt logical despite being problematic (hello to living with neurodivergence/mental illness where you know “this is wrong” and yet can’t seem to cut it out/off) and Eddie’s ambivalence and confusion felt palpable. This narrative strength also highlighted flaws in the manuscript editing that would break that immersion at times. There were little proofreading flaws like dropped or added articles in a sentence that didn’t feel intentional, or occasional word swaps that felt out of context (ex. “fairly decided” where only “finally decided” made narrative sense). The speed bump of concluding whether something was a vernacular choice vs proofreading flaw was outweighed by the momentum of the unfolding narrative.
Overall, this story left me hopeful for the pair’s future and that they would appear in others’ narratives - interwoven into the larger universe that Avril has produced. A universe where even the deeply flawed can change and even the darkest narratives are steeped in passion and respect.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2025Bishop breaks your heart over and over again. But his unwavering love for Eddie is so beyond obsessed but Eddie is the same way. Really enjoy how this author writes books. Reading the second install of this series as we speak. If it’s not your typical read, give it a try…you might be surprised
- Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2020OMFG.... Sooo damn good. I had only read about 17% of the book and I was hooked, 100% not stopping, not coming up for air until I was at the last page. Totally enthralled by these characters and their storyline. But this is not my first rodeo with this author so I was not surprised. Avril has the ability to pull the reader in completely to whatever tapestry she is weaving. Whether it is MM, MF, taboo, whatever I always find myself captivated and hanging on each and every word. She is a truly master.
This storyline with Bishop and Eddie touched on mental illness, brotherhood, soul gripping love, to gut wrenching heartache and everything in between. I love diving into the lives of these men we have heard about here and there in her other works. The reappearance of some favorites like Dina and Seraphina!?!?! Awesome
I hate giving too many details or spoilers. All I can say is that I 💯% totally recommend this book. It will not disappoint.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2022I wasn't always sure I wanted things to work out between Eddie and Bishop, because even though it was obvious that Bishop loved Eddie, he was kind of a scum person. All the secrets, all the lies, one big ball of BS. Honestly, the line between being in love and being unnaturally, unhealthily obsessed with Eddie was almost nonexistent. Bishop was honestly lucky to still be walking around, breathing and alive. I don't know that I would've been all that hurt had he died. And that's not a good thing for a "romance" novel. And I couldn't completely understand Bishop's crew always needing to kiss each other, and share beds, and have sex with each other. That definitely blurred more than a few lines. The only person I really liked in this whole book was Eddie.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2024I was enticed by the ‘stalker’ aspect of this book. While it wasn’t like some of the current popular stalker dark romance books it still hit that itch. Bishop and Eddie had a relationship that was born from a dark place full of criminals and hurt. There were twists and turns and an HEA.
The negative I have about it was all the grammatical errors that should have been edited out.

5.0 out of 5 stars So very good!
This was one of the best yet, but so heart wrenching. I hope we see more of these two in upcoming books as their happily ever after was hard won. Can’t wait for next in series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking
Bishop and Eddie's love story is full of pain, distrust, and twisted feelings. I like how it made the characters look human, with flaws like us. And the fact that mental health is one of the main topic make it better. A good read. I recommend

5.0 out of 5 stars Rollercoaster
Super
