Oh so bitterSWEET 💕
With one of my all time favourite authors co-writing a book with one of her best friends I knew I was in for an incredible book - and Bittersweet was all that and more. Carmen Jenner’s books include some of my absolute faves and while I’m new to Lauren McKellar, I’ll definitely be checking her books out. Together, they have delivered a book that is hilariously sweet with the right amount of drama ... toss in a family man and a woman who isn’t the “perfect size” (because she’s just a regular woman after all our own hearts) and Bittersweet is a book that will make you swoon, make you crack up laughing and make you pause as you consider why the size of a woman is still so important these days (sigh). I devoured this story in half a day - it’s so easy to read, so light and fun, and I fell in love with Romy. She is the type of woman I could’ve been if I hadn’t met my husband when I did - someone so desperate for love but who doesn’t have the confidence or self-belief that she deserves to be loved. I really enjoyed experiencing Romy’s inner voice and reading about a book heroine who doesn’t have it all together. Her doubt, her lack of self esteem, her dislike of her appearance is something so many women can identify with and it was refreshing to read a story that included this. And Elio - the swoon worthy barista and baker - gosh he was dreamy. I loved the chapters told from his perspective (and while Bittersweet is in dual perspective, it’s mainly from Romy’s point of view) and his attraction to Romy is evident from the get go. And while Elio has a little “lie of omission” of his own, you know exactly why he wasn’t so forthcoming... Lastly I have to mention the fabulous supporting characters. I’m desperately hoping Nico and Bianca are getting their own book (pretty please!!) but I loved Elio’s Nonna, I loved Romy’s bestie Emma and Coco - she is totally adorable!! If Bittersweet isn’t on you tbr go and add it now, or better yet one click and get swept away by an absolutely gorgeous love story that will make you smile, make you swoon and hope for an Elio at your local cafe!! nicandbooks ❤️❤️❤️❤️❣️ Amazon/Goodreads ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Romy Love runs a successful wedding blog, she should live and breathe all things love and weddings, but after a messy break up she's feeling anything but romantic, a little bit jaded would be far closer to the truth. All that's left of her own wedding plans is a dress that she might never get to wear. Romy spends her days dividing her time between working from home and the café below her apartment working on blog posts for brides planning their special day, while quietly crushing on the sexy owner Elio.

Everything about Elio draws Romy in, and leaves her wanting more. For lovers of slow burn romance Bittersweet hits all the right notes, as each day passes and Romy and Elio spend more time around each other, their relationship grows into something more than just customer and business owner. The trading of sweet smiles and often awkward conversations only serves to allow their budding relationship to flourish.

As Romy and Elio learn more about each other, they still keep parts of themselves hidden in an effort to protect their hearts. Despite everything going for them, their sizzingly chemistry that delicious temptation proves too much. When miscommunication rears it's ugly head, their fears of getting hurt only lead to heartbreak. Every thing about Bittersweet was all consuming, utterly enticing and so very addictive. For every book I've loved and blogged about of late, there's been others that I've failed to connect with, from the very first page of Bittersweet I felt that zing, that exhilarating rush that left me breathless and desperate for more. There's something all consuming about combining two of your favourite authors, the absolute joy that comes from relishing their words and their ability to craft a story that played out in my mind like my very favourite romantic comedy film.

"Because as much as I love the idea of indulging in Elio, I know a guy as delicious as him would never go for a woman like me."

The thing I adored most about Bittersweet was the way I was able to connect with Romy, I felt her insecurities, I knew with a clarity that only comes with a life well lived that sometimes you need to confront those past hurts, face those fears of heartbreak and pain to find something worth risking your heart for. With a one two punch that is Lauren K. McKellar and Carmen Jenner writing together, Bittersweet is exactly what I needed to pull me out of my self imposed reading funk. Bittersweet was a sassy, fun, and heart warming read that left me wanting more while still getting the ending I needed like every great book should.

Bittersweet is a Romantic Comedy about a heartbroken girl who's in love with love and weddings and a heartbroken boy who's in love with her.

Romy is a girl after my own heart. A passion for love, blogging, coffee and muffins. And the hot Italian Barista who works downstairs.

Romy breathes, writes and dreams about love but is single and desperate to mingle! She spends her days writing about everyone else's weddings and giving advice from her favourite spot in the Cafe down stairs. Romy has had a crush on Elio for the better part of a year but is too afraid to make a move.

Elio is the hot Italian barista with a secret. He's sweet, he's sexy, he bakes and he makes the best coffee for miles. And he's flirting with Romy... Or is he?

Bittersweet was just that, equal parts bitter and equal parts sweet. Both Romy and Elio have had past relationships that have left them a little heartsore and a little tender. Bittersweet was full of flirting, banter and misunderstandings.

Carmen Jenner & Lauren K. McKeller's writing was seamless. I couldn't tell where one started and one ended. Having read almost all of Carmen's collection and being new to Lauren's writing I thought I would easily be able to tell there different styles but they gelled so well I wouldn't have know it was written by two different authors if there were no names on the front.

One of my favourite parts of Bittersweet was reading Romy's blog posts! They're were so sweet, inspiring and genuine!

I really enjoyed Bittersweet and the different characters involved in Romy and Elio's story. One character was absolutely adorable and completely stole every scene she was apart of! The miscommunication and misunderstandings were frustrating to no end but fitted in perfectly with Romy and Elio's story.

However there was one decision that Romy made that took away from the story for me. I was so disappointed in her! In saying that, it's a decision that many of us have probably made and regretted just as much as she did!

Bittersweet is a perfect late night read, once you start it, you can't put it down! Every decision that Romy and Elio make keeps you on your toes and guessing how and if they will get there happier ever after!

This book was beautiful in the way that in reality most people misinterpret scenes they walk into constantly. But they way this one was portrayed had me hating the characters & almost putting the book away for good. I loved the fact that the intimacy took time, but over 80% into the book? Both were scared, like me & most of people today, of something going wrong. I get it, I really do. That’s why I kept going.

    Thank-You

Sigh. There's not much I love more than a man that reads. But a man that read AND bakes? Be still my heart, Elio it the perfect man all wrapped up in a delicious bearded package.
Elio and Romy have been attracted to each other for a while but neither of them are willing to put themselves out there and let the other know how they feel. They had me wanting to smash their heads together at times but they finally sorted themselves out.
This story was beautiful and I'd love to see more of these characters.

This story was so very sweet and so much fun!
Romy is a wedding blogger..she lives and breathes weddings..and coffee.
She is still single but she has her eyes on the hottest baker..Elio!
Elio who is italian, bakes like a God and looks like one too.
The story is in dual Povs and I enjoyed reading both sides of the story.
There's chemistry and longing, miscommunication and some minor drama, a awesome sister and a noisy nonna, and the cutest little girl ever.
I loved that Elio was so focused on the little girl and wanted a serious relationship from the get go.
Romy lacked confidence in some aspects but she is the sweetest.
Great story, a pleasure to enjoy will all senses, a complete feast!

ARC received for an honest review

Two of my favourite Aussie authors have come together to write Bittersweet.

And what a delightfully sweet story it is.

Romy and Elio's story is all kinds of cute and adorable, and right from the get go I wanted Romy to get her stud muffin.

I love how adorkably cute they are around each other. Watching them circle each other, neither admitting they want the other. You just want to smoosh them together.

There is a little darling of a scene stealer that will absolutely grab your heart and run away with it. I am still waiting for them to bring mine back.

I adored that there wasn't any OTT drama with this story. Sure, our lovelies had their trials, but no drama for dramas sake.

I like most of the secondary characters - believe me, there is one you will absolutely hate! You will know who they are as soon as you meet them!

I couldn't help but smile as I read Bittersweet. I laughed, I smiled, I wanted to throw my kindle at people. But most of all, I kept turning each page, needing to know what would happen next.

Bittersweet was a wonderful way to spend a few hours, lazing on the couch with a nice hot cuppa.

I hope these lovely ladies collaborate again in the future.

It's nice when a story gets the right balance of humour, angst & just about everything. Of course humour comes down to subjectivity, everyone is different so add a kid into the mix & you can't go wrong. I adore those oops moments.
Romy & Elio have both been burnt so how does a wedding blogger & coffee shop owner tell the other how they feel. They don't initially that's when the miscommunication occurs & boy when they meet again at a family gathering it's sure comes to a head. A very clever move.
I did enjoy the banter & it's a great collaboration between these two authors. I'd not long finished Cake by Carmen which I thoroughly enjoyed. This doesn't disappoint & while the ending wasn't quite what I expected it felt true to the tale.
Great work girls. Looking forward to Nico & Biancas story. hint hint
