Nobody can escape their past. It will always be there, returning to haunt you in the darkest times of your life.

Mike Swanson knows this - his past torments him daily and he sets himself upon a path of death and misery. He justifies his dark deeds by enacting them upon those he perceives as evil, not knowing that the real evil lies within himself.

Killing the scum of society, Mike becomes one of them and draws the attention of a group who require people with his skills. Unwillingly enlisted into the notorious 'Blacklisted Brotherhood', Mike must first survive horrendous training in order to hunt down a madman whose deeds will see the world plunged into anarchy if he succeeds.

Luke Romyn's Blacklisted is an amazing adrenaline rush. Mr. Romyn does a great job in placing a carrot before the reader's eyes in which he leads the reader through a tail that never gives the reader a chance to recover from the fast paced action. It is a well written book that causes a thirst for more with every page the reader turns. Blacklisted is a novel that makes the Dirty Dozen look like a bunch of sissies full of action, mayhem, and a yearning for more of everything that it offers. If you want to get lost for a while in a high-tech action packed adventure, give this book a read and let Romyn deliver a best-selling knockout punch to your kisser. The reader is enthralled to read more once he or she begins to read the book. Luke does a great job of character development and you, the reader, buy into his characters and the story line hook-line-and-sinker. Every literary theeme can be found in this book: love, compassion, lust, belonging to something greater than yourself, action, violence... This is a must read book that has the reader guessing with every page he or she reads. You think you know the truth, but the truth is as gray as the meaning of life itself. Read this book, you will not regret the action adventure that you are about to set sail on.

This was the second Luke Romyn book I read based upon the author's many Twitter posts...of which very few are actually pushing his books. He's just really terrific at tweeting and has an interesting wit. That being said, his Twitter personality and his main characters are very, very different people. The main character in this book, Mike Swanson, certainly possesses the super-human faculties of the main character in his previous book (Vain in The Dark Path), but this book is more grounded in real-life situations as compared to the supernatural occurrences from the first book. As a reader you cheer for Mike against unbeatable odds and at the same time sympathize with the mental anguish he suffers based upon the clear picture of his past painted by the author. Given Mr. Romyn's past employment history as a bouncer, I imagine there are some parallels there at certain points within the novel.

Mr. Romyn touches on a number of conspiracy theories that have probably crossed the minds of many educated, well-read readers. This added an interesting twist to the book and also gave pause to this reader on a number of occasions. Could it happen...has it happened...certainly interesting concepts to consider.

The only negative for me was that there was a lot of technical description regarding the various weaponry used through the conflicts Mike has to endure. Not having any sort of background with weapons whatsoever, I often found myself lost or just sort of skipping over the details. This, however, had no impact on how much I enjoyed the book. It is the only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 and I'm probably not being fair as I know many readers would relish this level of detail.

I'm looking forward to more from Mr. Romyn and think any reader taking the time to download Blacklisted (or The Dark Path) will be pleased.

I have read Luke Romyn before and enjoyed his writing. Blacklisted is a story about criminals learning and training with military weapons. This is a FICTION book so expect some of the action to stretch beyond reality. I didn't enjoy all the types of weapons mentioned. I knew a few of the weapons like M16 or AK47 but many more weapons are mentioned and hopefully the author researched for accuracy. I just went with what the story said each weapon was and how to use it. I enjoyed the action. I could tell where the storyline was going before the next plot or twist occurred. It is somewhat bloody. Keep in mind that if weapons are being used in the story, bloody situations will occur. To me it was an enjoyable read that makes me wonder about the mix between politics and military.

I just finished reading Blacklisted by Luke Romyn. The book was as excellent as Luke's debut novel, The Dark Path. A fast paced thriller, the characters and plot grab you from the start and pull you into the exciting world of a personal security expert turned killer who is suddenly recruited into a dark group formed for an unknown purpose.

What drove Luke's debut novel and what drives this one is the depth of the main character. We see the humanity behind a cold and dark personality that moves us to like him, to cheer for him, and to pray it all comes out well for him in the end.
We have all walked a dark path of one form or another and that is why the author's first book grabbed us and pulled us in. We can all relate and sympathize. "But for the grace of God there go I," was often my thought while reading this book. How quickly after tragedy in my life could I have gone down the same path, and ended up in the middle of such hardship and evil? Quite easily my friend.

Often we write to exercise our demons. It lets us see the "what if" in our lives and the lives of others. The author does an excellent job of this. You will be on the edge of your seat until you read the very last word.

Like the butterfly effects of a movie, Luke takes you from the present to the past to relive the life of his main character. A story in which many can relate. The action is very vivid and imaginable. Great attention to detail when it comes to describing characters; that coupled with the words spoken by each character further illustrated each member of the team. A story any director would love to put together. Since all stories require some heartbreak or a love scene, one was sufficient. The twist and turns alone would have sufficed.

Overall it was a fantastic read; one of the fastest I have ever read... which is a good thing. It kept me intact throughout.
    Enjoy it...

    5.0 out of 5 stars High-octane, no holds-barred thriller
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 11, 2013
This one DEFIES you to stop reading and... make a cup of tea or whatever. Really hard to stop once you jump on this roller-coaster, even for sleep. It's a supercharged, all-action adventure story, with thrills, shocks, twists, and a teasing guessing game interlaced into a driven narrative.

Mike leaves behind a troubled childhood, only to wander into a confused and unsettled maturity. Nevertheless, two mentors cross his path and go a long way to straightening him out. But during the course of events, both are lost to him in circumstances that he can not forgive. He begins his `revenge' against the sociopaths of society, and undertakes a mission to purge the streets of those low-life individuals.

Cut forward (to avoid spoilers) and Mike goes from facing severe legal retribution for his actions, to being recruited to a brutal army. His meeting with the enigmatic Carlson and introduction to his operation, sees Mike forcefully enlisted into a deadly crew of killers and psychopaths. The training for this `enlistment' is brutal, but Mike succeeds, despite all odds, to become a valued member of the team - and finally feels that he has found his place in the world - even believing, at last, that he is part of a `family'.

The team is assigned a series of missions - all in preparation for one big task... to find and kill the real brains behind a terror threat we are all too aware of. The route to this target is littered with subterfuge, betrayal, deceits and shocks.

The story contains flashback, which fleshes-out Mike's past life, but doesn't slow the pace of this action-packed thriller for one moment. This story is a vivid portrayal of violence and retribution. There are numerous twists and turns, none of which you see coming, all designed to keep this an edgy thrill-ride. I found myself thinking this a cross between "Dexter" meets "The Dirty Dozen" ... and yet I can't deny there is something singularly original about this storyline and how the events play out.

Well-researched in armaments, combat, logistics, and military tactics, it's difficult to know where fact and artistic licence separate - so credit to the author for this incredible blend. A twist on the war-on-terror theme; a subtle commentary on politics, especially as they pertain to 9/11; terrorism and the fear it provokes; and even a hint of romance, all fuse into this plot to keep it multi-dimensional, yet a furious page-turner.

I kept guessing the twists and found myself wrong at every turn. The clues lead you to believe one thing, and then it turns out to be quite another. There is an excellent variety of character profiles throughout the story.

The emotion is crammed in tight amongst the blood `n guts - expertly measured so as not to distract you from pondering the big question... Can Mike become the unlikely saviour to the free world?

Well, don't bet on it. Nothing is as it seems. Only as the story concludes does everything click together. A great read, and recommended.

If you like action adventure books then you'll like this one. The author follows the story of an abused teenager who goes from night club bouncer to serial vigilante murderer to black ops soldier who goes on to save the world from a holocaust.

It's written in best Ian Fleming style with gadgets, non-stop action, an evil villain and the hero gets the girl. Had it been written 20 years earlier it would have made a great film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

It's an easy read but you'll have to suspend a little disbelief at the gadgets. Those who don't trust politicians (most of us) will love it.

If you love action movies were the action comes thick and fast much in the Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger movie mould then you'll love "Blacklisted" by Luke Romyn.

Blacklisted is the story of a group of nasty killers and criminals thrown together by a mysterious CIA operative to try and save the world from falling at the hands of a rogue CIA agent turned tore its master mind

Mike Swanson is a former fighter, bouncer & nightclub owner who becomes part of the "brotherhood" and sent across the globe to track down the terrorist and try and prevent world war 3.

Luke Romyn has a fantastic story telling ability that keeps the reader hooked with every turn if the page, I really couldn't put this book down mainly due to the fact the action came thick and fast, in fact so much so I could easily see this book being turned into a Hollywood blockbuster in the future,

On a final note there is some fantastic books similar out there, I read this on Kindle but am sure this available in print version.
