(Note: This book was previously published as Mushroom in the Sand. Please do not purchase this title if you have already read that book). Readers of Tom Clancy, Brad Thor, Stephen Hunter, John Le Carre will enjoy this fast-paced, international spy thriller. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Fast paced and suspenseful, it features a surprising range of highly likable characters…a thoroughly well-researched book by a person in the know.” - Claude Forthomme, former United Nations worker ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Suspense, intrigue, and betrayal - the game of spy versus spy where corruption, espionage and the quest for the ultimate power rule, governments have their ways, and Iran is no exception.” - Dii, Amazon Top 500 Super Reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “I found it impossible to put down. Thrilling, suspenseful as it dove into the world of espionage among world powers. Fast paced and based loosely on world events of WMD’s.” - Jeff Mattice, Book Reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Masterpiece! Timely, fast paced and hard to put down. Would make a helluva movie!” - Fred Bowditch, Book Reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “What interests me more is the depth of his knowledge (clearly the author has a passion for it) about nuclear technology and how people can use it to destroy things. In addition to that, we have many big players in the book: MOIS, Mossad, US and Russia, all in it for various reasons.” - Ailyn Koay, Book Reviewer BOOK DESCRIPTION The BLIND SCORPION is a Top Secret computer program for simulating nuclear weapons explosions and the catastrophic havoc they wreak. Dr. Ross Shaheen, the developer of the software, is living the American dream. Between his internationally-recognized nuclear weapons research career at the prestigious Berkeley Lab and his picture-perfect family in the San Francisco suburbs, it's a good life that can only get better...until he is lured into lecturing before an elite group of scientists in the country of his birth: Iran. The seven thousand mile trip takes Shaheen back to the land of the lion and the sun, yet it also delivers to Iran's very doorstep an important American citizen with a Top Secret security clearance. It soon becomes clear what the Iranians are really after: the BLIND SCORPION. The coveted software is the key to advancing their clandestine nuclear weapons program without the rest of the world being able to prove its existence. Shaheen becomes entangled in a twisted web of espionage, corruption and survival, putting to the test not only his secret knowledge but also the very core of his allegiance to the land he now calls home. If he lives, Dr. Ross Shaheen could walk away a hero. The question is, for which country?

Blind Scorpion is a different kind of thriller for Mike Wells but it delivers nonetheless. Dr. Ross Shaheen, a nuclear weapons career scientist, is embroiled in a dangerous trip to his former homeland of Iran to be a guest speaker at a university. He doesn't trust anyone and fears for his life and the lives of his family but is forced to accept this invitation. What the Iranians don't know, or do they, is he is undercover for the FBI.

He is the son-in-law of a prominent Russian official who also is watching his back along with the USA. He has important information that Iran needs to complete their nuclear bomb. Will he give this information to them? Will his family's safety be threatened if he does not comply?

There are many questions to be answered in book 2 as the story continues. An enjoyable read that ended too quickly.

This 1/3 of a book was a good read and did hold my interest very well. I would give it 4.5 stars if it were a whole book. I just don't get the idea of people putting partial books online. If I buy a paper book it isn't 1/3 of a book. So why do it like this? I understand you are trying to get people hooked to buy the rest of the book, but let me read book number 1 with a beginning, middle, and end and I just might buy book number 2. As it is, I think I'll pass on anymore of this format as I don't know what I'm getting into when I start to invest my time to read only 1/3 of a book.

A good plot that had portions that did not present themselves well.

I had to fight through this, to be honest. It's not a BAD story, but it fell a bit flat. Some of the dialogue read like a cheesy spy show, which threw me from the story altogether. The MC wasn't convincing in some places. His mind-set jumped primarily from "I'm a family man!" to "Dang, this chick is hot." Which...I guess maybe is forgivable and probably more realistic than I give it credit for, but at the same time the plot contradicts what this mindset leads to. MC is an Iranian naturalized into America, a nuclear scientist with some top secret clearance, and yet he willfully puts himself into bad situations with people he shouldn't be speaking to, much less the things he speaks about. The plot just didn't do it for me, unfortunately. Meh. Just overall, meh.

5.0 out of 5 stars The end came too soon ...

I became engrossed in this book very quickly. It is beautifully written and the lack of grammatical errors is a godsend. That alone would garner five stars!!

Polished and professional, the story moves quickly and captures one's attention and interest. There is a detailed technical section, but it is so integral to the story and a much needed explanation.

I highly recommend this book. I can't wait to continue the story. It came to an end just as I became totally involved.
