Blindly Indicted (Out of Sight Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 3,351 ratings

I lived my life as a prisoner.

I’ve always been told stories about the real world, but I haven’t seen it for myself. All I have ever known is pain.

And darkness.

They tell me I have been blind since birth.

When I make my escape, I think freedom is finally within my grasp...

Until I’m captured by the paranormal police for a murder I didn’t commit. Apparently, I have powers—powers I have always suspected myself of having. Normal people can’t see through other people’s eyes, right?

Thrust into Nightmare Penitentiary, I meet a group of hard, alpha, psychotic inmates who believe I’m the answer to all their prayers. Me? I’m just trying to survive and figure out what it means to
live. My new home isn’t just a prison, but a labyrinth with horrors around every corner.

But what if the cost of my life is my freedom? Am I willing to trade one cage for another?

Welcome to Nightmare Penitentiary, where you come in handcuffs and leave in a body bag.

This is NOT a bully romance. These men are all hardened criminals and extreme alphas, but they adore their female. Be prepared to enjoy a painfully naïve female lead who slowly grows as the book progresses and a group of psychotic, murderous males. This book contains strong language, sexual situations, and a reverse harem romance. This book is 130,000 words and the first in a duet.

What an amazing read! Quick hits are: reverse harem, spicy, PNR, grumpy-sunshine, lots of ‘I’m a total psycho and only nice to you’ trope, queen trope, multiple perspectives.
Katie May wrote such an amazing book that it’s hard to put into words. This book will be taking up space in my mind for a good long while. She wrote believable relationships for so many characters, amazing spicy scenes, while keeping the drama hot and the plot moving too!
Nina is such a sweetheart, very naïve and extremely positive. There’s a few moments that this can get a little cheesy, especially when she talks about overhearing lots of guard conversations about r*pe, but can’t pick up s*x jokes like at all. That’s okay, because we still love and adore her for it! She’s a doll and you can see why all the guys fall for her charm.
I love that this is a duology, although we wrapped up quite a few loose ends in this book, so you can have some breathing room before finishing the series. We get a happily for now, with a lot of mysteries solved, and a quick set up for the next book too. Thank you, Katie, for being gentle with our hearts and not leaving us hanging off a cliff!
To be noted, though this is a reverse harem, there’s only one scene really in this book that gets spicy with our leading lady and two of the guys. Like some of Katie’s other books that I’ve read, the guys and Nina really have separate relationships, not a group relationship, and the spicy scenes reflect that too, which was a little bit of a bummer for me. The guys’ perspectives are a lot of ‘it’s me and her, my mate, my soulmate, and if she has other soulmates too then I guess I’ll learn to live with that’ vibes.

The best thing about this was the unique storyline. That’s pretty rare in books now. I liked all the characters, and really my only issues were personal preferences. IMO, there were too many heros. I feel that having so many limited how much depth the relationships actually could’ve had. Also, I am very familiar with blind people, especially having blind parents, and though I like the thought of her seeing through others eyes, the description of her movement and tasks, like eating, were just so unrealistic. Even seeing through someone else’s eyes, you couldn’t move freely, as it’s a different perspective and scale. A blind person would move very slowly and hesitantly and wouldn’t be able to maneuver around obstacles and people easily like she does when she’s not using someone else’s eyes.

This story has just about EVERYTHING! It is extremely rare for me not to know what happens next throughout every sorry I read, but for once, I was on the edge of my seat! I love Nina Doe and all that makes her special. I love how her vulnerabilities, strengths and innocence can break the coldest of men's walls down. I have already reread this book a few times because I love it that much 🥰
Trust me when I tell you to give this story a chance because it is well worth it. And that is coming from someone who has read thousands of books ~ literally.

It can be an interesting book, but for me it’s just missing basic building. The relationship of each character isn’t fleshed out. It’s just a quick out of the blue “oh yeah I’ve love you!” After MFC not even knowing herself. There’s no real foundation of these relationships and it’s takes away from the pull into the story for me. I actually stopped reading 3/4 of the way through because it got tedious even though it finally got to an “ah ha!” moment. Meh. I just didn’t care enough by then.

This book was adorable. I absolutely loved Nina and her men, along with this world they find themselves trapped in. While Nina was made to be a sheltered, innocent girl, she also had at lot of steel to her and was able to stand up for what she wanted and didn't sacrifice her morals for other people (even though she did that one thing at the end, but I believe she only did that to protect the ones she loves not because she absolutely wanted to). One thing I really didn't like though was the whole Tessa thing, while I understand that part needed to happen and that the book is set in a prison full of dangerous beings, the reasoning for it was something that could have been talked about like grown adults and handled in a better way. Another thing that I also didn't like was how the guys tried to hide the "bad" part of prison life from Nina until they needed to tell her (ie. During the Tessa thing), again I understand why they did it but Nina knew she was in prison with bad people and she was a heck of a lot stronger and understanding than they have her credit for at times. I really did enjoy this book and these characters, maybe one day Katie can revisit them about what happened to them after the ending and where they went from there.

Entrou para minha lista de favoritos junto com a série Curse of the Gods, A Tale of Sorrow e Void!

Holy Hell and I'm not even being dramatic. Most of the the time I understand of myself as being smart and that i can smell a plottwist in seconds but I FELT BLIND while reading this amazing book. I adore Nina, I'm a huge fan of Damien and Rion but all of her Mates are cute Baconpies.
    SO LET ME THE YA:

If you like an innocent main character who suffered too much for the whole World, is still capable of being herself AND is able not to want to die then you have to get to know Nina.

May you enjoy this book as much as I did

2.0 out of 5 stars This was not for me.
Reviewed in Spain on February 22, 2021
It wasn't badly written, but there were a few things I just couldn't get behind.

First is that "prison" seems far nicer and freer than I thought it would be (from watching Prison Break). I was expecting prison to be what they were going to escape from, the backdrop to a very exciting adventure. And instead, it's the comforting and comfortable background to their love story, somewhere they not only are not trying to escape, but are actively calling it home... they know there are no windows, right? It's like Stockholm Syndrome but with a place instead of a person.

And nothing really relevant happens... she meets these guys, they fall for her and she for them, she meets the bad guy, learns some secrets about herself, kills the bad guy, then contrives to get sent right back to her guys. Boring. It doesn't sound so bad as a plot, but the execution is poor and just boring, unexciting.

Also, their stories of pain and suffering were awful, and the aftereffects they had from it were also awful. Serious stuff. But then, when touched by their fated mate's magical hands, they got over it pretty easily... it felt superficial.

And then the worst thing for me was the cheesiness... OMG some of it was gag inducing, and in fact I had to skip through some scenes in order to finish the book. All this "queen, goddess, my everything"... blurgh! All of them kneeling to her at the end.... uff, I'm breaking out in hives just remembering it... I know some people are into that, but it's definitely not my cup of tea. I just can't get behind a story where the guys treat a girl like a queen for no apparent reason, other than being fated mates... nobody worked for it. She doesn't grow or evolve by herself... everything she does now is tied to the guys. IMO other books do it better, where the girl grows and learns and becomes a queen in her own right, by herself. The guy sees her change in front of his eyes and recognises her queenly status, and thus treats her that way. But books like this one, the girl is treated that way without working up to it, and mostly because the laws of nature dictate it so. Her worth has been decided by a bunch of guys claiming her as mate and therefore deserving of queenly status, instead of her finding her worth herself.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing why choose paranormal romance!
Reviewed in Canada on April 11, 2023
This is a slow-burn, dark romance featuring a sweet, naive heroine and several tough, criminal men.
I absolutely loved this book! I’m not the biggest fan of why choose romances, but some authors do it right, and this book was fabulous! It’s a standalone, though there’s a sequel I’ll definitely be reading. It’s a slow burn, and though there are six (SIX) love interests, the author does a magical job of getting me to care for and love each and every one of them.
Nina grew up in captivity where she was tortured for years. She’s blind, but she has the ability to jump into the head of people and animals around her to see from their eyes. When she finally escapes captivity, she’s arrested for a murder she didn’t commit. Now, she’s set to Nightmare Penitentiary, a prison for the most dangerous of supernatural criminals.
I cannot express enough how good this book was! For just a 500 page book, the author manages a multiple-POV narrative with twists and turns in the suspense plotline, multiple love interests, humour and sweetness, and just a little bit of spice. Even Nina, the heroine, who starts off as painfully naive, develops into a strong woman who can hold her own.
Highly recommend this book to those who enjoy paranormal romances with a unique premise.
