- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseHi, my name is Suzi and I have a Vampire addiction that has gone from movies now into books. We all know the general trope and rules of vampire books; K. Loraine has re-Vamped the tale into something that equates to a total page turner for me. The story line of Cashel's Blackthorne family and the relationship to Olivia, whose blood is special and could be a cure of sorts is completely revolutionary to Vampire folklore. Really enjoyed the character development and slow build of how these two enemies become more to each other.
When I didn't think the story could get better, Loraine brought in two PHENOMENAL performers to narrate the series. I have a #GirlCrush on Emma Wilder and she does not disappoint. When Olivia is panicking and at her lowest moments, Wilder's performance takes over my emotions & I want to be there to comfort her. The other character voices she provides in this dual narration are blended well and she shines with her masculine voices, too! And then there is Aaron Shedlock...I'm BLOWN AWAY by his Cashel - it was not his voice I heard in my head when I read the book - so when he first came on the scene I was floored. The further his audio portion builds in the narrative the more I fall further and further into the hypnotic control that Shedlock gives to Cashel. I'm really impressed & cannot wait to hear more in book two and three.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBlood Captive is the first book in a new vampire series by Kim Loraine. This series is completely unrelated to any of Kim's other paranormal/supernatural books. It is written in the 1st person POV of Olivia and Cashel. After the prologue, the book begins with Olivia meeting Cashel Blackthorne, being kidnapped, and taken to the Blackthorne home. During the course of the book, Olivia learns that Cashel's family believe that her blood will allow them to be in the sun and possibly cure those vampires who have "sun sickness." Cashel and Olivia are intensely attracted to each other from the beginning, but they spend most of the book fighting their attraction because of vampire politics and the potential risks to Olivia's life if they give into the attraction. There's way more to this story, but I'm not going to go into more detail because I think it's best to experience this book without any spoilers. It does end in a cliffhanger, a pretty major cliffhanger, and is scheduled to be released in September. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next book in the series. One thing that confused me initially was when the Prologue occurred. I thought it took place a few years before Chapter 1, but later in the book a character made the statement that the events in the Prologue happened a year before the book's storyline. So, I would have liked to have that specified in the Prologue. Also, there was so much build-up and tension throughout the bulk of the book, that I did feel that the last couple of chapters were a little rushed and that I was kind of left with the feeling that it was over too quickly. BUT, both of those things are minor complaints to me and did not affect my overall enjoyment of this book. Plus, those things aren't dealbreakers for me when it comes to this type of storyline, especially when it's the first book of a series. There's a lot to this storyline and I feel like this book has just scratched the surface of the overall storyline of the series. I mean, there's a vampire council that we haven't met yet and there's vampire hunters that we don't know much about, not to mention what is going on with Cashel's family. I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to see what will happen in the next book. I recommend this book/series to anyone who is a fan of vampire and/or paranormal romances. It's definitely worth checking out if you have Kindle Unlimited.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis story was promising. The world building was good. The characters were interesting. The push and pull between the characters was palpable. All the things that normally keep me turning the pages. But every time I got wrapped up in this world, I got yanked out of it by the errors that appeared. I can overlook the incorrect and missing punctuation. But tense hopping drives me nuts. Pick a tense, past or present, and stick to it. Sadly, I don't think I'll continue the series since the tense hopping is such a pet peeve of mine.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI’ve read a lot of vampire books when I say a lot I mean a ton, PNR, especially vampires is one of my favorite tropes. This author has a new spin on burning up in the light called the “sun sickness/madness” that I really enjoyed. That’s where Olivia’s blood comes in and why she is so prized that the Blackthorne’s all want a taste, but Cashel is there first too bad his father, the King, insists on keeping her for himself. There is a lot of sexual tension between Olivia and Cash but once they finally give in it’s explosive. This book ends in a cliffhanger, but I look forward to reading more about the sun madness, Cash and Olivia’s relationship, the Hunters and bloodlines. I can’t wait for the next installment of this series!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseCashel and Olivia have an intense connection from the moment they meet, but their roles are unusual. She starts out as his captive, but she ends up capturing his heart. Not the norm for a vampire.
There’s a lot of action in the story. It kept me interested and on edge. Just know, it does end on a cliffhanger, but I went into the book knowing it’s part of a trilogy, so I am ready to head into the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI’m a sucker for a good vampire story (no pun intended haha), however a couple chapters in, I beginning to think I already knew this story line. I was wrong. In the best possible way. The entire book had me thinking I could see what was coming and every time I was wrong. I was surprised by so many little plot twists and exciting events. This book is everything a vampire story should be! Danger, fear, sensuality, allure, dominance, and intrigue. This story had my emotions warring right along with the characters. I was spellbound and am anxiously awaiting the next story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy Hotness!!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book sinks its fangs into you immediately. There's no long, drawn out seduction, it's right there in your face immediately and it's so hot! The sexual tension between Olivia and Cash is the kind that makes you squirm, you want it so bad, and when it finally happens, they do not let you down. I absolutely love these two. The sun sickness angle is a new twist on the usual vampire story line and it keeps you hooked along with the rest of the Blackthorne players. The author has created a world full of fantastic characters and loads of suspense that will keep you hanging on every word. Definitely fiending for the next book after that cliffhanger ending, can't wait for more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy Moly Hotness!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseHoly Moly HOTNESS!!! DAMN!!! I am so speechless. Kim you have once again done it, I honestly don’t know how you are able to come up with these Fanta-bulous characters and books, but do not and I repeat DO NOT ever stop... I am a HUGE fan or Paranormal and I have read all of Kim’s books so there is no surprise with how Abso-F*cking-lutely awesome this story is.
Cashel will sink his teeth into you and won’t let you go, just like he did the first time he meet Olivia in the elevator. Cash had been searching for years to find the sun blood so he can cure his kind of the sun sickness. He never expected his little bird Olivia to be that, but when she fell into his arms he knew he wouldn’t be able to let her go, not just for her blood but for something much deeper.
Olivia had spent her life in hiding from the ‘monsters’ as her mum had told her. But she never expected the stories she was told of said monsters to be true, she always thought her mum to be one screw loose. But now she was being held prisoner by a sexy, broody, gorgeous vampire and his family. They wanted her blood, but she wanted her freedom.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait for Blood Traitor, the only downfall is that it ends on a cliffhanger, I don’t do well with them as I procrastinate over them and obsess about what is going to happen. It also leaves me in a state of limbo not being able to move on. Although this may not be bad things.

3.0 out of 5 stars It is alright
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseBeen looking for a steamy, spicy vampire story and stumbled upon Blood Captive. The spice is there, definitely but the plot is kinda overeager. It would need another 100 pages to somehow make it a bit more realistic. The main character changes her mind within 10 pages and that is so unreal, though of course it is fictional book. At some points the writing style is off, as if something was just hurriedly written down.
Also, some grammatical mistakes and typing errors are in this book, probably because it is a BETA COPY.
So if you are up for mainly spicy and a plot that is not very detailed go for it. It is easy to read and gives you a bit of a timeout.

5.0 out of 5 stars loved it 😍
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhat a great start to a new series. Cashel is just so tortured in all the right ways. I absolutely love this book and I highly recommend that you give the series a go because it’s well written and really intriguing.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSo glad I chose this book. It was so much better than what I expected it to be and the author is now one of my favourites. Will be reading the rest of the series and the rest of her works.
This is dark, twisted, sexy, toxic; and not for those who expect a happily ever after, or for nothing bad or awful to happen. The main characters go through hell and they’re surround by awful people, if not, doing awful things themselves.
If that sounds like your cup of tea…Take a leap and do it. You won’t regret it.
