Blood Feud: An Urban Fantasy Vampire Hunter Series (Magi Codex Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 34 ratings

Vampires are nothing to fear? Hardly.

For centuries the magi have relaxed into a life of luxury. Brushing off the rising threat of vampires as if they were little more than annoying children. But I, Varius Londinium vampire hunter, know the damage they cause firsthand.

I thought shedding my mentor of fifty years would be liberating. Little did I know he and every other magi would be out to see me fail or used for their own nefarious purposes.

Between Rufus turning from mentor to spy, and Prisca showing up at my front door to seduce me into joining her camarilla, I have no time for my true passion.

Killing every vampire in Austin.

I refuse to let these fools get in the way of my rightful title of Helsing. The first step in restoring my own camarilla to its former glory will not be stolen from me. They can either help me, or die trying to kill me, because I won’t turn my back on my inheritance.

Nicholi (N A K Baldron), is an author and adventurer, best known for his international bestselling series Chronicles of the Seventh Realm.

He lives in a tiny house in a small town near Austin, Texas with his life partner Sabetha, and their daughter whom they homeschool together.

When he’s not crafting new worlds with the magic of words, he can be found backpacking on the many trails near his home. Nature offer’s Nicholi the room for his mind to wander, and sleeping under the stars helps him identify with many of the characters he enjoys writing about. He hopes his love for nature permeates his fiction.

At the bright age of twelve Nicholi discovered Eragon by Christopher Paolini. Realizing the author wasn’t much older than himself, he decided to give novel writing a shot. Obviously, plagiarism is wrong, so Nicholi wrote his “completely original” story about a farm boy who could speak to wolves. That novel will never see publication, but Nicholi looks to it as a reminder of where he came from, and as inspiration of how one author can change a young man’s life.

It would take another fifteen years of honing his craft before Nicholi published his first novel, and he wouldn’t change a single year of the journey.

Nicholi and Sabetha also write a dragon cozy mystery series together under the penname Verena DeLuca. She is also a major contributor to Aconite Cafe, Nicholi’s Publishing Company, and runs the reader discord server.

As I sit here trying to find words to express my love of this book, I've decided to do it this way.

    Pros:
I love all the characters. Prisca, Rufus, Varius and especially Martin.
The magic is new and I think has great potential to do anything.
The world building is magnificent. I can see every detail of everything described. Like paintings in my head ;)
I love the action and the many different types of paranormals we meet and Varius interacts with.

There are so many other things to love about this book, but I can't list them all as some are spoilers and there are so many, this review would be about the length of the book. It's an exciting, beautiful, wild ride that merges magic and vampires and other paranormal creatures into an urban setting making me think I could turn a corner at any moment and see one of the creatures before me.

The only thing that is a con is that I now have to wait for the second in the series!

This was my first read by the author and I found his characters and plotting very interesting and intriguing. This is a fast-paced, action-packed story with relatable characters and good world-building. Looking forward to the next book.

NAK has proven himself to be an excellent author once again. The characters are strong, yet still fallible. The world lore building he put into this series is exceptional. The plot moved at the perfect pace, and any questions I had were answered by the end, but it was definitely enticing to read the next book in the series.

Do not go by without reading this. And while you are at it, read his other works.

Various is no longer an apprentice magi to his master is Rufus. He is out to take advantage of his ability to kill vampires and advance his standing. This is a great start to a series.

The rough and tumble world of Austin,Texas for a Vampire hunter trying to bring back his family's legacy. to bad his mentor is a turn-coat ,and the Magus world doesn't want him to win back his Helsing prestige. I am an Honest ARC reviewer and the story-line rocks... The pity party "feelings" aspect kind of drags . All in a a solid read.

So...I did like the ideas in the story, but the 'absolute' attitudes annoy me. There's no wiggle room. And...There's a lot of behind-the-back deals. Hard to tell which side anyoneis on. Pity power is all that seems to drive everyone. Elements of this story intrigue me but I'm not sure I'mhookedto read the next one.
