Daniel and Hannah Reynolds are newly married with their first child on the way when a notice comes from a lawyer saying that the remaining member of the Bonavaris clan has died and willed Bloodmoon Manor and all its possessions to Hannah, her former maid and cook. While Hannah can't fathom the reason for the bequest, the notion of selling the manor and the valuable items inside it begins to grow inside her like an obsession. She and Daniel have begun their married life with little more than outstanding debts from his medical education--debts that come due around the same time as the birth of their baby. After a lifetime of poverty, Hannah refuses to allow her child to face the kind of scavenging, hand-to-mouth existence that had led to her employment at the horrible Bloodmoon Manor in the first place.

    Although this book is a direct sequel to THE BLOODMOON CURSE, reading that one is not absolutely required for understanding RETURN TO BLOODMOON MANOR. Acquaintance with the earlier novel would help, but the present narrative does supply enough context to appreciate the story. While the menace in the first book involves only human threats, as far as we can tell, in this one the supernatural evil shadowing the town of Bloodmoon Cove throughout the series comes to the fore. Hannah’s plight immediately draws in the reader’s sympathy. She and her husband, Daniel, suffer from mundane problems many people can relate to, an unplanned pregnancy and a crushing load of debt. In addition, she bears the burden of trauma from years as an employee practically enslaved by the sinister owners of Bloodmoon Manor. When she unexpectedly inherits the house and all its contents, the idea of selling the property to gain financial security becomes an obsession, again one almost anybody could identify with. Of course, the process proves not that simple. The qualms expressed by Daniel, who wants nothing to do with the bequest, create tension between him and Hannah. Suspense builds as they arrive at the house and everything seems to go smoothly, aside from Daniel’s illness, which strikes as soon as they enter the grounds and inexorably worsens. Even without the dire warnings of the locals, we would expect the couple to be trapped in the Gothic mansion and forced to confront the entity striving to lure Hannah into its clutches. Recurring characters from other books in the series appear, but prior knowledge of them isn’t necessary. We become deeply absorbed in Hannah and Daniel’s problems and dangers, rooting for them to survive while the lethal threat grows seemingly inescapable. This novel does an excellent job of developing a secondary character from THE BLOODMOON CURSE, a semi-antagonist in that story, into a sympathetic heroine for whom we wish the happy life she now deserves.

    Bloodmoon Manor is an isolated mansion at the top of a mountain. There is no electricity, no telephone, and getting to the manor is a time-consuming, weather-dependent ordeal because there is no proper road and storms brew up out of nowhere.

    Hannah and Daniel Reynolds are now expecting a child. It has been one (and two months and eighteen days) since Hannah escaped her living nightmare of being a prisoner at Bloodmoon Manor. That timid, fighting for survival girl, has begun to blossom with Daniel’s love. With a child on the way, Hannah is beginning to fear for her baby. They have so many large debts because of Daniel’s education. So even though she swore never to return to Bloodmoon Manor, she now considers it.

    When the family matriarch, Miriam Bonavaris, succumbs to cancer, and with no living kin, Bloodmoon Manor and its entire estate is left to Hannah. Daniel, of course, does not want Hannah to return. He does not care how much the items within the manor are worth. He wants Hannah as far away from that evil place as possible. But Hannah just wants to retrieve items for a couple of days. It would not only pay their debts and leave them a nest egg, but she could finally put the horrors in her in her mind to rest. The entire Bonavaris line is dead. They were the evil beings within the manor. Nothing else dwells within the secluded estate. Or does there?

    When a massive storm comes out of nowhere, Hannah and Daniel are stuck in the manor. Daniel has become feverish and every time he sleeps, his dreams are full of nightmares. If that is not enough, Hannah keeps waking up in odd places with no memory of how she got there. As events progress, the pair come to realize that they are not alone.

    ***** FIVE STARS! This story is simply more proof that Karen Wiesner was born to write Gothic Romances. The author writes good romances, but her dark Gothic-flavored stories are the absolute best! With a town such as Bloodmoon Cove, she certainly has a lot of potential tales to dive into. Personally, I hope to learn more about the people that live in this secluded town and their ghosts.

    The series continues as the women and children are rescued in a dynamic fashion. Eventually Daniel sweet talked Hannah into giving him a chance to make her fears go away, but he knows that Hannah is not telling him the whole truth. I liked that Daniel stuck by his wife, and welcomed their unborn child even though they were up to their necks in debt and living paycheck to paycheck . Is the last of the Bonavaris clan really dead and is the curse broken? Hannah is consumed to make their lives better once she learns that the castle is hers and she convinced Daniel to return to the hell house to take the antiques and sell them. But once in the manor who the house let them leave? I can't wait to read the next book as I am so HOOKED!!

    Though I've read a number of Karen Wiesner's series, RETURN TO BLOODMOON MANOR, Book 4 is the first of her Bloodmoon Cover Spirit Series I've read. Horror isn't my favorite genre. But, after reading Hannah's and Daniel's story, I immediately purchase the first three books in the series. I want to know more about this place and how it affected other characters.

    Horror and the occult weave together in a way that brought a new way of viewing what Hannah and Daniel were getting into when facing the evils of Bloodmoon Manor. I recommend RETURN TO BLOODMOON MANOR by Karen Wiesner to those of you interested in a different point of view on horror and occult as well as anyone interested in just a plain good story.
