The Bombshell Effect: A single dad sports romance (Washington Wolves Book 1) Kindle Edition
In my defense, it was a rough week.
Being back in Seattle for the first time in years was hard enough, the fact that I was there for the dispersal of my father’s will made it even harder. I had no intention of staying, until I got a football stadium-sized surprise as my dad’s final gift to me.
No … really. He left me a football team.
It’s how I found myself in a conference room, staring down the veteran quarterback who wants nothing to do with a new owner. And that quarterback? It’s my tall, brooding, tattooed jerk of a neighbor.
Now he’s everywhere. Next door with his daughter. In meetings. Don’t even get me started on away games.
Luke Pierson is under my skin, and pretty soon, I’m not sure I want it any other way.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2019I'd rate this 4.5 stars but enjoyed it enough to round it up to 5. Allie barely has a relationship with her father so when he suddenly passes, she's surprised to find herself inheriting the Washington Wolves, his beloved football team. She moves back into her deceased mother's house on Lake Washington and decides to take cupcakes next door after seeing a young girl waving to her from the neighbour's house. Luke answers his door to find Allie on his doorstep and after wrongly assuming she's a football groupie who's trying to hit him up, he's a jerk to her. When he finds out that she's his new boss, he's less than impressed and she thinks he's an arrogant, uncompromising, but painfully attractive jock. For the sake of the team, they try to start again and build a tenuous relationship while working and living beside each other as they try to take the Wolves to the championship.
This was a pretty short, easy read. The dialogue was good, with some witty banter between the two main characters, and the writing was solid for the most part. The plot wasn't groundbreaking and if you've read any hate to love romances before, nothing here will surprise you as it follows a pretty predictable pattern. That being said, you know what you're going to get and there weren't too many surprises.
Luke was a single dad and I really liked what that offered the story line and his character. I find that sometimes authors tend to make children characters obnoxious or really cliche. I'm glad to say that Luke's daughter was neither and she added to the plot rather than detracted from it. Luke himself was also a breath of fresh air. Instead of being the typical football player we see in sports books (you know the one I'm talking about - cocky, a player, etc.), Luke was grumpy, gruff and stayed away from relationships because of his daughter and from being burnt from his ex. We don't know too much about what happened with his daughter's mother, only that she sold a story about their fling to the tabloids and died early on. He doesn't hold many positive memories of her. Luke hates the press and is completely committed to his job, taking his leadership role and position of quarterback seriously. Allie was also a refreshing character. While very attractive (we're told a few times she looks like Barbie), she's quite anxious and unsure of herself. She wants to prove that she can take over from her father, but she's completely out of her comfort zone. She's able to lean on others for help and is determined to do the best she can - no vapid flake here, thank goodness. There's a bit of an age gap between the two - I think it was about 10 years or so.
The romance is a bit of a slow burn. There's tension and each character's inner monologue identifying the attraction they have to the other, but things don't heat up well into the second half of the book. There was a really decent amount of football dispersed throughout the book, which I loved. I know it sounds silly to mention this, but sometimes sports books use the sport as an add on and not a major part of the story. This book had a good amount of detail, both from Luke's expert point of view and Allie's novice one as the story focussed on him as a player and her as the new owner.
There were a few small typos here in there throughout the book. Not a big deal, but they were there. While Allie and Luke were slow at finally getting together, they did fall in love quickly for those readers that like to know those kind of details. I would have liked a little more of Allie getting to know and spending time with Luke's daughter, as I thought it was a bit of a missed opportunity in the plot, but that's just a personal preference and didn't affect me enjoying this book. Also, I loved that there was a sports romance with no other woman drama. Thank you to the author for this!
Overall, this was a predictable, but really enjoyable read for me. I'm keen to continue the series and will be reading this author's work again.

Thoughts: I loved this book. I loved that Allie was the boss. She really came into her role as the owner of the Washington Wolves. I really liked the banter between Luke and Allie and the way they both misjudged each other. Allie had an instant connection with Luke’s daughter, Faith, and I loved how that connection helped her see Luke in a different light.
There was a lot of world building in the first half of this book and it made it seem like the second half all happened very quickly. Luke and Allie had some hurdles to jump and while I enjoyed that, it did feel a little rushed. I’m hoping some of the gaps will be filled with the other two books in this trilogy and we see more of Luke and Allie as a happy couple.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2020The Bombshell Effect, by Karla Sorensen is a 240-page contemporary romance novel and is the first book out of a three-part series in "The Washington Wolves". And since this is a three-part series, you can expect reviews by this author pretty back to back for the next few weeks as I go through the books. It is written from a first-person POV, two-side.
The sex scenes are about a level four.

First of all, I love reading Ivy Layne, but I just needed a break from all the crazy and intricate plot lines and just have something light. I stumbled across this author, and I'll be honest...I was skeptical because it's a Sports romance, but I thought, "What the hell?" I am SO glad I did.
The author created a fictional football team based in Seattle, WA called The Wolves.
Allie inherited the football team from her father. She was living in Milan at the time. It wasn't exactly clear what she was doing for work, but she's back in Seattle now, living in the lake house she'd inherited from her mom. I admit, I had mixed feelings for her character because she just felt really...privileged. As you get to know her though she has a lot more depth than how she was originally portrayed. She ends up moving in next to Luke, who unbeknownst to her, is the quarterback for the team she just inherited. They had a pretty hilarious meetcute.
Allie threw together some cupcakes (which weren't great). She did it because Luke's young daughter spotted her and waved. Allie saw it as an opportunity to meet the family next door and assumed she'd get the chance to meet the kid's mom. When Luke answers the door, Allie gives her brightest smile offering the cupcakes to him and introducing herself as the new neighbor, but Luke...haha...well being a celebrity...was used to women doing random things just to get in his pants. Luke told her off and congratulated her on being so original...this led to Allie smashing the cupcakes into his shirt. Unfortunately for Allie, she doesn't follow sports and had no idea who this guy was.
Luke is a single dad who knows what it's like to have women try and finagle their way into his life. The mother (ex-girlfriend) of his daughter ended up passing away from a car crash. The secret he's kept from his daughter and the media is that his ex was not truly an ex, so much as a bad mistake. His ex had inflated their relationship to the media so she could get fame and money.
The whole story is really nicely put together.
The only part that bothered me is I don't feel like Allie got a satisfactory closure about her dad's relationship. He essentially sent her off to boarding school to be raised by others after her mom died. In the story from team members he isn't depicted as that kind of man. So something obviously happened between the time he abandoned his daughter to his death. I wish there had been some sort of diary or letter Allie found that said he felt bad for how he handled the death of his wife and he could do better by his daughter. He left her a sports team and millions of dollars...that's nice, but words with the gesture would have been nice.
In summary, I give this a 5 out of 5. I know. I don't normally give a book a 5 out of 5, but I was so blown away by how well this book flowed. And I guess I was impressed because I'm not generally a lover of sports romances, but this one was so balanced between sports and romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Romance between a dedicated single father, the quaterback of the heroine's team
The plot is nothing you haven't read before - heroine inherits football franchise and begins a romance with the quaterback- here you have as a heart warming addition the hero's six-year-old daughter. The romance is written well, very entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Read
I had read one of Karla's books, the one and only, which featured the Wilder family but it became apparent that some of the characters had featured in previous books, focusing on the Washington Wolves football team, so I did some digging and this one is the first book that features the football team and it then leads to more books, and also a second generation series!
Alexandra Sutton (Allie), on the death of her father, finds that she has inherited a football team, the Washington Wolves, as well as property and money. She moves into a new place and meets the daughter of her neighbour, when going round to introduce herself she comes across Luke, who is very rude to her. It then turns out he is one of the players in the football team and gets a lot of unwarranted female attention.
Luke is a single parent, trying to bring up his daughter Faith, who is adorable. He is a very private person and shuns any limelight. The relationship develops which of course has to be hidden as she is the owner of the football team Luke plays for.
I loved this book, and not to put any spoilers on it, the part where Luke realises how much Allie means to him and how he expresses it is absolutely lovely and I found quite emotional.

5.0 out of 5 stars His had me reaching for the tissues
This was and is one of my favourite stories.
I love the characters, well written and human. Attraction in all its forms, love found and the spattering only a young child could bring of wisdom beyond years and comedy.
My family are getting a bit worried about how far my knowledge of player positions and general gameplay of NFL and Ice Hockey too. Both types of these books are now my favourite and that’s because like this book, they are now my favs! Well done Karla
