Bonded to the Alpha Kindle Edition
With his life on the line, Callum’s only choice is to bond with the troubled alpha, and carve a place for himself in the pack by any means necessary.
Taking the bond was the worst mistake Nero ever made. But now, with his bond-mate dead, the clock is ticking. He needs to bond again by the full moon, or his next transformation will kill him. That’s all he needs the human for, just a means to an end. At least that’s what he tells himself. But as the bond takes hold he finds himself falling deeper into something he swore he would never do again.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2014Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI found myself really enjoying this story. Far shorter than I usually like them to be, I found the length of the book to be a bonus, as it kept things moving along, and the 'good parts' were satisfactory and rewarding. I was left wanting more, yet still happy with what I got.
Callum is a smart ass young man, but he isn't annoying. He's got some familial issues that give him depth and a sense of realism, and his POV is enjoyable. His baggage isn't overwhelming, and how he interacts with people is spot on for a mature but wary nineteen year old. He manages to save himself from a horrible death, only to realize he may not be safe after all- and thank goodness he doesn't spend the majority of the story freaking out about it. He does freak, but the fact he's already been through some really hard things in his short life is a bonus here, as he can move past the scary stuff, and make a move to take what he wants.
Nero is the quintessential alpha werewolf.... right up until you see he's a sweet soul, tough as nails but more than wiling to cuddle and talk. I don't say this to belittle his 'maniless'- he's plenty scary- but I say this because he has more than just the werewolf thing going for him. He has a real sense of family, loves his people, and he knows he needs to do the right thing.... even if it kills him.
The plot, while easily deduced by the title, is far fresher and easy to digest than most of the werewolf m/m romance stories out there. Werewolf lore/mythos is dropped casually in conversation or inner dialogue; nothing feels forced. The chemistry between the two men is believable and enjoyable.
Moray lured me in with Callum's irresistible POV and Nero's calm yet passionate nature. Other than some small editorial mistakes (lack of capitalization and some punctuation errors), and the page count sitting at about 140 pages, this story was worth the buy. I liked it. If Moray ever wants to pull this book down and flesh it out into a full fledged 250+ novel, I'll willingly spend the money to read it all over again.
And if this happens to be Book 1 of a series featuring the same characters, Moray's got a fan already. Gimme more!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThere is something so engaging about how the author creates and presents her characters. I cannot help but be totally absorbed into their lives. My only wish is that the endings felt more resolved and less abrupt.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI don’t think this could even be called a HFN ending. Sure they bonded but they haven’t discussed the future and, as far as the other knows, are planning to live separately. Also, I couldn’t quite enjoy getting to the incomplete ending because Nero is such a weak alpha. The character that inspired the most feelings was a side character, Michael. Even the teenager acted dismissively towards him. He seemed so unhappy (with reason).
- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2022Format: KindleVerified Purchase…But not worthy of a re-read, IMO. I loved loved loved Robin Moray’s book Changed, but I just did not feel that great about this one. Cal and Nero and their relationship seemed fairly depressing and morose and I just wasn’t feeling the “love” between the two. I actually forgot I had even read it when I saw it sitting in my Kindle library. I’ll pass on this series but would be totally stoked if she continued the Changed one.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI absolutely love this book. I would definitely recommend it for anybody who loves shifter stories. she has very unique dynamics on the difference between a bond mate and an actual mate and it's a lot more fascinating than fated mates and just as powerful. The alpha in this is such an amazing sexy possessive great alpha and the alpha's mate is someone who doesn't always have a backbone but their backbone is there and they will go to bat for their alpha and go to bat for their pack and not even care that they are human. So good!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2014Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI liked the story line and that the mate bond finally worked. Callum was a funny character and I liked that even though he was strong willed and stubborn, he finally submitted to Nero. Nero kinda confused me at times. I liked that due to the bond working he could shift again and retain his alpha status. One thing I really didn't like was that the end Callum called his sister and asked if he could come and stay with her for awhile. Why was he going to stay with her if he just bonded with Nero, aren't they going to be a couple now? And I'm still really curious to what the story is for Michael, I feel there is more him that what we got.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI almost passed on this book. "alpha" and "submit" are not two words I adhere to. Plus usually books with alpha in the title usually means BDSM, something else I don't adhere to. Plus it's "book 1".Entirely too many books labeled that just stop and you have to buy the next installment. All that said:
I liked this book a good bit. The MC was rather light hearted for lack of a better term, so, it wasn't as dire as it could have been. After all, he was put in an impossible situation he couldn't readily get out of on many levels. Plus the book actually had an ending. There is a second book, but you don't need to read it. I plan on it, even though the write up says it falls victim to the same "book two" storylines I've seen in most every werewolf book of this type, so, there's no rush.
Plus, I have to say, I really didn't want the MC to agree. If he wasn't going to be forced, I wanted him to never agree, and just take his chances. Oh, and I wanted to see him find the person who delivered him to the werewolves and gut them. I know it would have been a different story altogether, but I'd like to have seen that.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseM/M is not my normal reading material, but this was great. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Nero and Callum. These two are memorable and this will be on my reread list.

4.0 out of 5 stars Horny Werewolf fun
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA great fun read about a very young man having to roll with the crazy when he kills a bonded wolf. I really enjoyed the dynamic left behind by the wolf he killed.

4.0 out of 5 stars a good enough read
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseEnjoyed this story although too short for my liking, Callum must bond with Nero or they will both die, you kinda guess what's going to happen but still a good read. Liked the other characters in the book except maybe for Hamish, you'll see why. My only problem is the ending, hope there's a sequel cos it kinda left it half finished, will read more by this seller.

5.0 out of 5 stars M/M Shifter romance well worth the read (and re-read)
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseCallum Kelly is a fairly ordinary nineteen-year-old who returns regretfully to his small hometown of Raglan on the occasion of his estranged father's death. A run-in with a werewolf results in Callum being severely bitten and the wolf unexpectedly dead; Callum finds himself suddenly brought before Nero Ruiz, the darkly handsome alpha of the local werewolf pack--and the bonded mate of the slain werewolf. By pack law, Nero now has the right to kill Callum.
But Nero doesn't kill him, and Callum is brought into the pack instead, to become Nero's new mate. Now he has to navigate pack politics--no easy task in a "family" more dysfunctional than Callum's own. But time is limited for the two of them; the bite Callum received from the werewolf is killing him, and Nero's severed mate-bond is killing him. They have until the next full moon to make the mate-bond fall into place. Once it's established, Nero has agreed to let Callum leave the pack and go his own way, to resume living his own life. But does he really want that? Does Callum?
Robin Moray's first novel in this series is a delight, with developed characters and strong world-building. It's got everything you might want in a romance: humour, action, sweet werewolf love--and the promise of more in the future.
I absolutely loved this book. Callum is cross-tempered and independent and strong and determined not to lose his identity to being just the alpha's mate. Nero is strong and wants nothing more than to be a good alpha to the pack, despite the circumstances leading to his ascension to the role. Neither of them is coming from a good place, both of them are dealing with loss, and they are both so strong-willed and passionate that it threatens to kill them both. But of course this is a romance, so it doesn't - but it keeps you turning pages. Nero's recognition of Callum's agency, in letting him remain human, is an important factor for the characterisation and the story. It's important for Callum to remain who and what he is--and it adds drama to the overall plot.
Definitely not what I expected when I picked it up, this novel wormed its way into my brain and my heart once I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different take on the shifter genre
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI enjoy shifter books and this was no exception, but it did have a slightly different slant. The two main characters don't meet, announce they are mates and fall in love. These two come together to save Callum's life after he kills Nero's partner, but they struggle to bond. They also face problems and hostility from Nero's pack who are seriously disfunctional and don't all blindly follow Alpha which happens in a lot of books in this genre.
A good story that is left in such a way as to require a sequel.
