Review

"The writing is top-notch, the characters are amazingly developed, and the story moves so fast that you just can't put them down. I just finished the 3rd book in the series, and I honestly don't remember a storyline that has so completely captured me in this genre before. Very well-done, full of great detail for the technical sticklers, but not overly technical so those that just want to enjoy the story can... A most excellent read!" - Amazon Review

Andrew, this was a fabulous series. I bought and just finished a combined Kindle of 1-3 and will go get 4 in the Kindle store as soon as I finish this review. The longer I read, the more I began to think that our old friend TC (God rest his soul) was somehow still among the living. I hope that's a compliment to you as I sure meant it that way.

For other readers, I just read books 1 through 3 in about 5 days, including working eating, and alas, not much sleep. Sure, this is a war/geopolitical thriller about the USA, China, Iran, a few others, and more than a few corrupt souls. But what gets me about this series is how such a massively complex and intertwined set of intersecting yet thematically independent plots over a series of seemingly unjuxtaposable time intervals has been seamlessly integrated into a series of which anyone can and will make sense. Moreover, with plausibility being my number one 'must have' to love a work of fiction, this one could be tough to refute. How that which seems maybe so much fantasy to believe in our of the gate morphs into a tale where the reader might find themself screaming at certain political characters to get their heads out of their ... and, well, believe, is certainly part of the author's secret sauce.

This is a series of war, of fear, of love, treachery, betrayal, good and evil to the core, culminating in what could some day be the realization of our worst nightmare. I sure hope not.

Mr. Watts, Well done. Simply amazing. Please, never stop. This quality of prose is an endangered species. Thank you for your part in reviving it.

Okay, I'm reviewing the whole series. I think Mr. Watts is an excellent author. If I had bought just the first book as a stand alone I would not have read anymore of the books. Too much info and slow read for me. Books 2 & 3 made it worth the purchase. Book 4 was like book 1 in that it had too much info about different characters and what they do, especially when they are not a main character. Book 5 & 6 were excellent with book 6 being the best due to lots of action. Realistically, this could have easily been a 5 book series. Still worth the read. Just my opinion

The War Planner is my first read from author Andrew Watts. A well developed, well-written story that plods along. The primary characters are well-developed over the course of the book, the lesser characters not so much. By the end of the book, the author had me looking forward to the next book. My only question is why did it take me almost 2 years to get around to reading it?

The War Stage is my second read from author Andrew Watts read immediately following The War Planner. A well developed, well-written story that takes off like a jet from an aircraft carrier. The primary characters are well-developed over the course of the book, the lesser characters not so much. By the end of the book the author had me looking forward to the next book.

Pawns of the Pacific is my third read from author Andrew Watts read immediately following The War Planner & The War Stage, I highly recommend reading them back-to-back-to-back. This is all in all a family story wth Father, two sons and a daughter each of the books goes more in depth to one of the admirals children. An incredibly well developed, well-written story that takes off like a jet from an aircraft carrier blending seamlessly to the first two books. The primary characters are well-developed over the course of the book, the lesser characters not so much. By the end of the book the author had me looking forward to the next book. My only question is how do I get a copy of The War Planners: Episode 4 that’s out of print?

Incredible by, to me, a new authir.

Loved it! I spent four years living in the Norfolk area while my husband was stationed on the USS Independence Carrier while serving his country in the US Navy. Author Andrew Watts hit the nail dead-on with these three novels, that flow right from one to the next. While each book is a stand-alone story that kept me on the edge of my emotions through the whole ordeal of how those with an unexhausted wealth of money can become despots hell-bent on ruling the world in their image. I laughed, I cried, and I cheered, and that is what makes this series a must-read for any fans of espionage war thrillers of fiction.

Book 1: The War Planners with David Manning as a kidnapped computer analyst who was previously in the Navy and is held captive on a secluded island with other American's who have been lied to by their US bosses to participate in a think tank to find ways to breach the USA's defense system. David comes from a family of Navy personnel that include his Admiral father, brother an ex-Navy Seal, and sister who is an ace helicopter pilot.

Book 2: The War Stage with Chase Manning ex-Navy Seal is sent to Dubai on a CIA secret mission, betrayed by another and rescuing his brother are his man concerns.

Book 3: Pawns of the Pacific with Victoria Manning a Helicopter Boss in the US Navy on the USS Farragut Destroyer extracts her brother Chase from the jungles of Equador in an all-out race to get to Panama before being sunk by an enemy and avoiding World War III from breaking out.

It didn’t wow for me at least. Especially when three series were clumped into one ride. I think it would be better off if readers read one series at a time. They are easy flight reading books! I liked the second one in the series because of the smoke and dagger type of thing. The surprise was good to keep things going. Otherwise, I would just stop reading the book. The story isn’t bad, but it has too many different wavelengths that don’t make sense. That turned me off.

There were a few times I thought the story got bogged down in technical jargon: enough so the reader can understand and not so much it becomes a textbook. Other than those few times the story clips along and has plenty of unexpected moments. I thought the beautiful, deadly, all-knowing female antagonist was overdone and that weakened the story for me: too contrived to be believable. Having written all that, the ideas and escalation were very good. The author seems to be familiar with how the antagonistic country thinks and operates (as an aside: 'The 36 Strategies' are China's historical treatise on the art of war.) While I haven't found a character I can care about, most of them are well-drawn and the story itself makes it worth 5 stars.

The Manning family all work together to stop an invasion on American soil. No one believes David Manning he's treated as a traitor. Chase Manning is integral to clearing David's name. Victoria Manning truely saves millions of lives. I felt I was reading an actual account of warfare it is frighteningly realistic.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Premis
Reviewed in Australia on December 22, 2020
I liked the premis. The story was for the most part believable. So was the infiltration of the US by foreign agents. One of the problems of a multicultural civilisation who has civic nationalism, otherwise known as the melting pot as part of it's makeup. Good story pacing and suspention. The scene in book 1 where the mc buys a pistol from a pawn shop in Darwin was imposible. Firearm laws here don't work like that. This collection covers the world view differences between 2 nations with vastly opposite outlooks. I'll be reading the rest of the series.
