Boy Next Door: Hot Off the Ice Book #5 Kindle Edition
This is a story about losing the path and finding yourself. It contains kissing, yelling, spanking, and carb-loaded family interventions.
Hockey superstar Joey Luciano has always been good at being whatever people needed him to be. But the cracks in his mask are starting to show, and he’s begun to lose touch with who he really is. It’s going to take someone who’s been there from the very beginning, to help him find his way home.
Coach Liam O’Reilly always had a very clear picture of what his life should look like. Falling in love with the infuriating, passionate, stubborn, and endlessly fascinating boy next door was not part of the plan. But when Liam’s carefully constructed life fell apart one Christmas Eve, Joey Luciano was there to pick up the pieces. Now Liam can't stop wanting him.
The passion blazing between them on the ice and behind closed doors could leave both of them badly burned. But through the smoke, Liam can see glimpses of a future brighter than any he’d imagined, a future worth risking his career and reputation for, if only he is brave enough to reach for it.
But Joey’s got a secret he’s keeping from everyone. If it gets out, it could be the end of his career.

About the author

After time spent raising children, earning several college degrees, and traveling the world with the U.S. State Department, she is returning to her first love - writing.
A dreamer and an idealist, Amy writes about people finding connection in a world that can seem lonely and magic in a world than can seem all too mundane. She invites readers into her characters’ lives and worlds when they are their most vulnerable, their most human, living with the same hopes and fears we all have. An avid traveler who has lived in big cities and small towns in four different continents, Amy has found that time and distance are no barriers to love. She invites her readers to reach out and share how her characters have touched their lives or how the found families they have gathered around them have shaped their worlds.
Born on Long Island, NY, Amy has lived in Los Angeles, London, and Bangkok. She currently lives in a town suspiciously like Red Deer, Colorado.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2019I lived in Boston many years, my ex’s and friends from big, close-knit Irish and Italian families. The scenes with Liam and Joey’s families were like going back in time. Loved that! I really enjoyed this story, mostly because I wanted to smack Liam, sometimes Joey too, in the back of the head. Joey was too darn cute though. There’s a little Daddy/boy vibe to their relationship, definitely some D/s, although nothing defined that way. I would highly recommend reading Boy Toys before this. The families are rather confusing but that story made this one easier to understand and relate to Joey and Liam’s relationship. The hockey aspect is awesome. I don’t watch hockey, have no clue how the game works but I love reading about it and AE Wasp is one of the best at writing it!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2021This story was another good follow up in the series. Joey and Liam have good chemistry, if aren't a little dence on how do handle it.
I really enjoyed the conversation between joey and his grandfather. Those tug at the heart strings and the sence of Family is wonderful.
I had a problem with the wrap up. Seemed too quick with little information. I would have prefered that to have been flushed out a little more. Also sometimes it was hand to keep track of who was who and what Family when it came to the O'Reilly/Luciano.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2020I admit, I was a bit hesitant heading into this one since the novella changed POV over to this huge, rambunctious family. However, I was also looking forward to it, because I foresaw a lot of potential. It was really good, especially since we got to see a lot of guest appearances from previous MCs.
I was a bit disappointed toward the end, because it felt rushed. I also think there was a bit of a missed opportunity to turn this into a Daddy/boy trope, cause even though It was never stated, that's exactly what Liam was to Joey. It was a really good HEA though, so I'm willing to let it slide and still give 5 stars. I do think I'll be a bit sad when this series is over, 'cause it has been so, so d@mn good.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2019I enjoy AE Wasp's storytelling. She can quickly build characters with depth and character that I want to read about and Joey and Liam fit that category.
With her series, I enjoy that while the time frames sometimes overlap, the books are truly standalone. This book was the exception. I highly recommend read book 3 Boy Toy in this series or you will feel lost starting this story.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2022I enjoyed the prequel short story to this, but from the get go it's obvious that Liam is a jerk and it didn't really change throughout this book.
I found the relationship between Joey and Liam borderline predatory and abusive. Yes, Joey is into it, but Liam is much older, a quasi relative and a superior at work. There were too many 'ick' aspects.
If the relationship had been purely sweet and simple attraction I might have been able to stomach it, but Liam setting out to 'educate' Joey (who is 25 not 5) and 'beat concepts into him' took it from consensual sex to the border of abusive. The condescending manner in which he demands the right to decide for Joey... Nope. None of this worked for me.
The large families and their relationships were also confusing. I never understood why Liam's girlfriend lived with his parents to begin with, considering he could easily afford an apartment.
And the plan to get them to talk by locking them in a club bathroom?? WTH?
What I liked about this were the cameos of the characters from previous books. I loved seeing more of Alex and Sergei and Paul and Robbie. The hotel room discussion was hillarious.
I'm looking forward to reading the Patrick and Vicky book. I'm enjoying the series but this was probably my least favorite
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2018Finally, we get to see Liam and Joey and all it takes to bring these two together. There were several laugh-out-loud moments in the book and I still adore the O'Reilly/Luciano clan. Both Liam and Joey have to let go of their desire to control how people see them. They truly love one another but need to get past what others think and focus on making themselves and their relationship the focus. I loved getting to see more of Robby and Paul as well as Alex and Sergei, they give Joey the friends and support he needs to come to terms with his sexuality.
Highly recommended author and series
Adult read
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2023This story is a continuation of Boy Toys. Be sure to read that book before this one. The style of writing is a little different from the first four books, but still good, probably better. Great series, best read in order, although books three and four can be switched.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bellissimo
Letto in inglese perché dopo la novella volevo capire come la storia continuasse. Country boy rimane il mio preferito, ma anche questo è bellissimo. Anche se io avrei preso a schiaffi Patrick

5.0 out of 5 stars Hockey’s
This is my first A E Wasp book I really enjoyed the story & the characters I couldn’t put the book down. I am now ordering Skater Boy & Boy Toy. It really was that good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot off the ice 5
It was nice to see the continued relationship of these two after their brief hook up at Christmas but all the text/thread messages just seemed to be a bit much and confusing but overall I still enjoyed it
