Breach of Duty (Breach of Faith Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 385 ratings

It takes more than truth to serve justice.

Captain James Henry is left stinging after the latest firefight. However, lost cargo and payments mean little as a disturbing message reaches into neutral space – his uncle is dying. Uncle Charlie was the one who saved his life after Jim’s disgraceful dismissal from the Coalition Defense Force. He owes the man an enormous debt for giving him renewed purpose.

But only the dead can pay the Ferryman.

Regardless of the risks, Jim and the crew of the Shadow Wolf return to New Virginia to offer final farewells. But the lies that forced him from his homeland continue to taunt, and the schemers buried in the CDF are convinced he’s returned to throw a wrench into their carefully laid plans. Plans positioned long ago like pieces on a chess board.

Ready to be played.

Jim’s resurgence triggers deception from every sector. His old CDF crew from the Laffey, who’ve never forgotten their CO’s sacrifice, are rounded up and imprisoned, while Jim is dragged from his uncle’s bedside. But deceit goes too far when the heart of the Shadow Wolf is threatened.

Now it’s a race to rescue the wrongfully accused and expose the long-hidden truth in a galactic game where there is no second place.

And the heart of the Terran Coalition lies in the balance.

If you love Babylon 5, The Expanse, and Destroyermen, you must read “Breach of Faith,” a space opera sci-fi series that will take you to the heart of duty, sacrifice, and the unseen scars of those who serve.

Captain Henry in this book faces the old demons of having wrongs done to you and others believing you were guilty. God is watching over him in this story and after several years he was vindicated. Good read. Big D

A good predictable sequel, this book got me through another flight and made it enjoyable.

The characters grow up and new ones join but nothing really surprising.

I have enjoyed every book I have read by the author in the various series he has written set in this world. I found this story particularly engaging as I have developed a connection to Captain James Henry's character and the crew of his ship. The arrival of known characters from other books and series that take place in this world also helped me feel a connection with the story.
I was, however, disturbed by some of the religious discussions presented here. I realize this is fiction, and as such, have accepted in other books the generalized presentation of the various religions as equal. My problem here was the statement that all religions (all roads) lead to God. If Gibbs had kept this more opaque, I would not have had a problem with his generic acceptance. However, as a Christian, this statement bothered me. So, just a word of warning. Though the story is worth reading, if you are a Christian, be prepared to let the religious elements remain "fictional."

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun ride, but feels awkward in places

Ultimately, I enjoyed this book, especially as I'm a sucker for 'Minor [relatively speaking here] crimes reveal major plot' situations, but it felt to some extent that the Shadow Wolf crew were passengers in their own story at times.
