Breaking Free: An M/M, Enemies-to-Lovers, Sports Romance (South River University Book 3) Kindle Edition
Instead of fleeing, I stay put and end up having the hottest bathroom hookup with someone whose name I don’t know. Because I’m still in the closet, I don’t talk about what happened that night, glad that it was with a guy who doesn’t live in the same town. But come Monday morning, the naked man from the bathroom strolls into the locker room and locks eyes with me.
Dominic is new to campus and threatening my spot on the team, which makes me hate him. It’s too bad I loved everything he said and did to me the night we met, but I can’t let him get to me with his cocky smirks and filthy words. I have to focus on keeping my position and making sure nobody finds out about us.
He’s arrogant where I’m modest. I’m docile where he’s domineering. We’re complete opposites, so it could never work, but being with him makes me want to break free from the chains that have kept me in the closet, because he’s also the firm hand to my wavering confidence and I’m the moth drawn to his flame.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2021Trevor's best friend Jaeden convinced him into attending a frat house party at a rival school, Grand Valley. Jaeden was a wide receiver and Trevor was running back for South River so they were excited about talking crap to a rival team. And they learn that one of their players, a running back, is transferring to South River.
After Jaeden disappears with some girl he sees Trevor starts playing drinking games with the other football players until his bladder starts begging for relief. When he finds the two bathrooms downstairs being used for sex and getting sick, he roams upstairs looking for another bathroom.
After opening several doors he finally finds a restroom and it isn't until he has already started that he notices the room is fogged up and steamy and then a man snatches open the shower curtain to ask him what he thought he was doing.
He's bigger than Trevor by several inches and pounds and extremely good looking and when he sees Trevor checking him out in the mirror he asks if Trevor would help him forget his sucky life and kisses him.
He's in the locker room putting on his practice gear when the door slams and he hears heavy footsteps approaching. When Trevor glances over his shoulder he can't believe what he's seeing. The naked guy from the bathroom is walking up to him - he's the new running back on the team.
As soon as Dominic graduated high school he high tailed it to Grand Valley to escape his mean, drunk father. As much as he tried he couldn't get him mom to leave him. He passed away four weeks ago so he transferred to South River to take care of his mom.
Because of his dad's controlling ways she didn't work and any money she received from insurance wouldn't be enough. He can't believe she's actually mourning that monster. So he's here for her financially and emotionally until she can find work.
Trevor was scared to let anyone know that he was gay. He wasn't confident enough to put it out there especially to his team. He was terrified how his parents would take the news.
This is a MM romance. Although not my normal read, I found this book to be very well written and all of the characters well developed and relatable. This book is very emotional. Trevor's conversation with his parents, but even more so when Dominic breaks down and tells Trevor about his dad.
The storyline grabs you from page one. Trevor and Dominic's instant attraction and the suspense of how Trevor was going accept himself and share his true sexuality with his friends and family. All of the characters are amazing, but the love between Trevor and Dominic floods through the pages. Highly enjoyed this book about relationships and being true to yourself.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2021This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed how she did the POV. They were broken down into chapter groups instead of how we are used to seeing each chapter or two may be by each person. So this one would be 4/5 chapters dedicated solely for one character before switching over to the next one. This was not my first M/M story and to be honest I found some of the scenes sexy and hot while others just ok.
I enjoyed reading Trevor’s story only because of his growth in this book. Seeing his internal battle with himself after his one hookup with Dominic. Once he realizes that Dominic is the other running back on the team and they are now stuck with each other he is basically forced to face his own truth about himself that he has been covering up.
Dominic is a confident young man that comes from a very violent home. He has need football to keep him out of trouble. Once he meets Trevor there is an almost instant connection with him that brings out a controlling side of him as well as a vulnerability that only Trevor seems to have over him.
Together they both go through different growths of their own. Trevor deciding when and how to come out of the closet and Dom deciding how much control he wants his past to have over him and whether he wants to be in a relationship. They were great together though. Dominic enjoyed pushing Trevor’s buttons to no end and Trevor turning Dominic on.
I did find parts of it a bit slower than I would have liked. I couldn’t understand why the constant arguing and ignoring so it made the book drag on unnecessary in some parts. I know it had a lot to do with Trevor’s own issues but it just seemed like it dragged on too much. Otherwise it was an enjoyable story
I received an ARC and have voluntarily left this honest review.

My kind of enemies to lovers trope.
Unexpected meeting in the bathroom led to a beautiful discovery of strong feelings between our guys.
They deserve all the love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trevor
These 2 were so hot, try stopping attraction it just turns to jealousy and hot mark out sessions. I’m glad Trevor finally came out of the closet and found someone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great enemies to lovers story
I really enjoyed this book. The third in the series and definitely my favourite so far. Isabel Lucero definitely knows how to write a story with all the feels. I really felt for Trevor and the way he was so scared to come out and how this was holding him back. Dominic is a really strong character but he suits Trevor and the characters are really well built.
The only tiny weeny bit of the book I didnt like is where Dominic was out and was considering whether he might hook up with someone else. It's only fleeting, but (and it's just personal preference) but I like it when the two MCs are really into each other from the off and there aren't any thoughts (fleeting or otherwise) for other people.
Some really steamy sex scenes, and the tension between the two characters is built really well. Hoping the author writes some more MM books as she is very good at it.

🇺🇸 Isabel Lucero knows how to write lovely couples. In this series, I have liked all of them and Trevor with Dom were no exception.
Their love is cute, swoony, angsty and amazing. I also enjoy reading more about Renzo (who’s my favorite) and how this group of friends find adorable love stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for the prudish
I liked the characters, I can imagine what it must be like to be afraid to come out. Loved how Dominic coaxed Trevor into being true to himself without pushing too hard. They were great together.

4.0 out of 5 stars cute
It’s a nice book about two guys with a lot of bagage to work through. I liked the characters but would’ve preferred a more in depth story on both background and how they mentally got through their problems. As it is now they’re angsty, angry, and frustrated on one page and then three pages on they’re happy ever after.
But it is a sweet book.
