My road to be able to actually read this book has been challenging. Thank goodness I had an angel, in the form of Ms. Ashley Hampton, to help me along the way. I read in paperback so had to wait my turn for the paperback to be published. We used humor and almost a "buddy-system" to get through this long wait. When my "turn" came I could not click fast enough to purchase. THEN Ashley started to worry that all this waiting would make the book not as good...she had a momentary lapse in confidence. Well...Ms. Hampton your wait is over.
I LOVED this book. LOVED Ashley...it's official denise bailey LOVED this book. I never give spoilers when I review so won't start now. It only disrespects the author. That this is a debut was shocking for me as the writing was magical. It was tight, she had a rock solid story to tell, and most importantly is she had a very deep cast of characters. She could literally make a career from the characters introduced throughout the story. Obviously boy meets girl...a no brainer...but what happens before this first meeting and after this event were very important to the reader. I loved that she gave us humor when we needed a break and seriousness when needed. This book could be thought of by some as a simple romance but they would be sorely mistaken because it was not. It was complex and I found myself becoming emotionally invested in our primary characters. What I found extraordinary in this book was that I was almost as invested in the secondary characters. I hear something and want to stay with that moment and know more. How dare she move along! This is exceptional writing folks. This young lady has serious writing chops. We had a completely full story and yet we have more to come with a cliffhanger. How will this new relationship work and what trouble may lie ahead for our couple and the secondary characters. This book not only met but it exceeded my expectations. I won't even bat an eye when I see an "Ashley Hampton" book now. For any of you who happen upon my review I urge you to purchase this book and get ready for a sequel. I can see at least five or six from this book alone. Nagging alert Ashley :-). I am very proud of your work and you should be beyond proud of yourself. This was a real gem and I can proudly say it was well worth the wait. Thank you so very much for working with me and encouraging me when I felt down. I want folks to know you are an author who cares about her readers. denise bailey
