A Bride for Quentin: Mistaken Identity Mail Order Brides Book 8 Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 130 ratings

Because of her controlling father, Olivia Stratton has lost everyone important in her life, including her first love. With her father now among those who are gone, she must find a way to survive. She knows she will never find a man in the town where she lives who would consider wedding her. Her only hope is marriage with a man who knows her only through letters.

After a run-in with a superior officer, Army Lieutenant Quentin Thompson resigned his commission rather than to continue having his career buried. That decision was far from his only loss during that time. When the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad builds a line through the Arkansas Valley of Colorado, he accepts a job as a telegraph operator in the mining town of Jubilee Springs. He works his job, keeps to himself, and makes few friends. His life is just how he likes it—uneventful—until a ghost from his past steps off the train.

If you have read my Sweethearts of Jubilee Springs novels, you might recall Quentin, the telegraph operator, who played a minor role in a few of those books. His story fit the scenario of the Mistaken Identity Mail Order Brides series so well, I took the liberty of telling his stand-alone story here.

A Bride for Quentin will keep you thoroughly enthralled from beginning to end! This is Zina Abbott at her absolute best! You'll sympathize with poor Olivia Grace Stratton who is treated abysmally by her own father. He wants to control every aspect of his daughter's life, even changing her name and making everyone call her Grace. He won't even acknowledge her as an adult and insists she marry a man as old as he is. She loses everything and everyone that she's ever loved, because of her father. Somehow she manages to survive everything life has thrown at her and with no other prospects, she becomes a Mail Order Bride. Quentin Thompson has also had his share of tragedies. He lost the only woman he ever loved and his military career was sabotaged, leaving him no choice but to resign and become a telegraph operator. Neither Olivia "Grace" nor Quentin believe they will find Love or true happiness again. But God has a plan, as he often does, along with a few miracles in store for them. This is one read you don't want to miss and won't be able to put down, before it's completion!

This is a book that starts rather sad, but works its way into a happy ending. Luckily, I only read of fathers like Olivia’s. This book makes it worth reading through the sad to get to the good. When the book starts, Olivia is known as Grace. However, that is not the name she chose to have. After her mother died, her father sent her to her aunt who insisted he make her the legal guardian. Her aunt allowed her to marry Quintin when she was 17, But her father had paid unscrupulous lawyers to get her marriage annulled and then he took her daughter to have her adopted away. In the meantime, he had changed a newspaper article about an O Thompson dying By making a small mark on the paper to look like a Q. She was kidnapped by men hired by her father to marry his friend. And you can read the rest of the story.

    Jubilee Springs, Co 1882

Prepare to have your heart strings pulled in this wonderful story of a second chance at love.
The author, with her amazing historical knowledge, provides a vivid scene of the times, including the Indian wars that our hero was part of and what he went through.

Separated by deceit and untruths, Olivia and Quentin, find each other in Jubilee Springs. She has answered and ad as a mail order bride as a last resort and he works there as a telegraph operator.

I could not wait to see what would happen at their reunion and I can truly say this story was truly inspiring. Recognizing some of the discussion from a previous book, I so enjoyed every word and know you will as well! A definite keeper!

This is a story that is incredibly well written bringing a depth of emotion to the reader. The display of depravity Olivia and Quentin were subjected to was astonishing. To find each other again the joy of the story.

The miner’s attempt at securing a mail order bride for the 3rd time goes terribly wrong. His bride is recognized by the telegraph operator. It is the telegraph operator’s wife. Due to a scoundrel of a father, he tells his daughter the man she loved is dead. The telegraph operator finds his wife obituary when gets out of the military. She is cruelly treated per father’s instruction. Rather than marry her father’s crony, the daughter becomes emotionally unresponsive. Once her father runs out of money, she takes temporary jobs of caring dying women. Those jobs are over, so mail order bride is her only option. There is so much to correct to make their life a joyous partner of husband and wife.

I must admit I was losing interest in the beginning, but I really wanted to know things and connect the dots and understand who and why did this to them! The best thing was the came face to face quick and spoke. I hate it when people don't speak or don't listen, thank goodness non of that happened. Loved it. She suffered so much but fate brought all the happiness back to her and rewarded her with everything that was taken from her. In the end Olivia got her miracle. I would recommend reading this book.
