    This series had me captivated in the first chapter! The characters are real yet fascinating because of the time they live in and the other times they bridge to. This is not a typical time travel series. The descriptive text brings you to worlds hardly imagined. The biological expertise of some of the main characters adds yet more believable depth to the wild creatures they must learn to live with. I didn’t stop reading long enough to write a well deserved review until there was no more to read! Perfect for binge reading! Would recommend to most young adults but adults will love it too.

The bridgers are assigned to explore these parallel worlds and that’s where the action takes place. The dialogue was outstanding. Try book one and see if you don’t get absorbed.

    When my kids were younger I tried to encourage them to read by saying that every day I went to amazing places with wonderful people to do fantastic things. ‘How do you do that, dad’, they would ask? ‘I read’, I replied. This was initially met with sceptical silence but reinforcing this message eventually had the desired result and introduced them to the lifelong joy that is reading for pleasure.

    When I discover an author whose works give such a reaction, I metaphorically hug myself with glee. Stan C. Smith is one such individual. I began with one of his ‘Across Horizons’ series, which was a free sample from ‘BookBub’, and quickly realised this had hit my sweet spot. Less than a week later I had not only finished this one but every other book in his series of 3 collections. Thank you Kindle. I’m old enough to remember that if I wanted to buy another book by the same author I would have to travel about 30 minutes to the nearest book shop, scour the shelves frantically in the appropriate section and still probably have to come home disappointed because it wasn’t in stock. Kindle has made this reading junkie a very happy addict.

    I won’t try and describe every plot line in every series but suffice to say I found them all inventive, fun, thrilling, well crafted, intriguing and thoroughly satisfying by the story’s end. I’m only disappointed there’s none left for me and envy you, undecided reader, as you take your first tentative steps into the amazing, wonderful, fantastic world(s) of Stan C. Smith.

    There were some interesting ideas on this version of “earth”, but overall I enjoyed previous books more just because this storyline had less action and was focused more on the “why” of our emotional reactions. Conflict resolutions didn’t feel realistic which took me out of the story and made it more difficult to accept and embrace the action.
