Bright Like Midnight: A Dark College Romance (Savage U) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 2,442 ratings

I should be running away from the villain. Instead, I keep running straight to him.

The first time Amir stormed into my life, he held me hostage in my dorm room.

That should have been the end of it.

But this is Savage U, and nothing's ever that simple.

I swore my second year of college would be different—no more shadows chasing me, no more hiding from the dark. I’m finally living: dating, making friends, moving on.

Until the notes start.

Someone’s been watching me. Leaving reminders that no matter how far I go, I’ll never be safe.

That’s when Amir shows up again—dangerous, dominant, and dead set on making me his. He says he can protect me. All I have to do is belong to him.

I know I should stay far away. He’s not the kind of man who saves people; he breaks them.

But the devil you know is better than the one waiting in the shadows.

And somewhere between his threats and his promises, I find something I never expected: a haven in the arms of the campus villain.

Now, I’m not sure what scares me more—the stalker who won’t stop haunting me…

Or the man I’m falling for who might just own me, body and soul.

(Author's note: Bright Like Midnight is a dark college romance that explores mature themes and dubious situations. If you're looking for a nice guy hero, this story isn't for you!)

Julia Wolf writes sexy rockers, grumpy billionaires, snarky heroines, and bad ass women. She’s a firm believer in happily ever afters, no matter how rocky the road is to get there.

She doesn’t believe in “guilty pleasures”, only pleasure. Reading about a plus size woman who gets absolutely railed by a hot rock star is pleasure. Reading about a damaged college student whose flaws are valued and loved by the grumpy guy next door is pleasure. Reading about love in a small town or big city or on a tour bus is pleasure. Reading romance is pleasure!

Julia lives in Maryland with her husband and three crazy, beautiful children. When she’s not writing romance, she’s reading it. Some of her favorite things are, in no particular order: goats, books, coffee, and Target.

Quiet, meek scholar vs dangerous, bad boy
Quiet, meek scholar Zadia Night gets held captive at gunpoint by dangerous, bad boy Amir Vasquez. Despite the circumstances, there is a pull between the two. Zadia Night is a sweetheart with a heart of gold. Even though she is a gorgeous girl with a beautiful soul, she is self-conscious of her curves and believes she cannot stand in the same league as the standard model-thin college girls. Amir Vasquez and his connection to his brother's gang leave him with a questionable character despite being intelligent and having a soft heart for a beautiful "little mama." "You’ve seen the worst of me, and I am asking for you to love me anyway." With a past of being traumatized, will Zadia turn an eye to Amir's violent and dangerous lifestyle? Will his possessiveness allow her to walk? Bright Like Midnight is filled with raw sensuality, bantering, angst, and emotions that keep you interested from start to end!

Amir and Zadie.....Ohhhh I fell in love with them! I thank the heavens that Julia Wolf gave us the Savage Crew and Savage U. These couples are #couplegoals with chemistry that is undefinable its soo intense. This was a book I was waiting for and It soooo did not disappoint.

Amir and Zadie had an intense connection and pull the moment he was a captor that year ago. Amir saw Zadie for who she was. A beautiful, intelligent, voluptuous, sweet, and loyal girl. She was the girl who walked in his life and he felt he could never have or be enough for. He wanted Zadie for all she was and this jealous/possessive man wanted her body, mind, and soul. Zadie and Amir had a need for each other like the air they breath.
Zadie saw past what everyone saw in Amir and saw the sweet, sexy, and loyal man he was. When they part ways after the Hells incident they connect a year later when Zadie schemes her way into a party she knows Amir will be at. Sweet and shy Zadie becomes a sacrificial lamb to save a man not worth her time of day in order to get closer to Amir. When she ties herself to Amir becoming his pet coming at his beck and call it becomes a dangerous decision for them both. While Zadie has alternative motives for what she has done she also has a deep desire and want to be with this campus bad boy. Both are oblivious to each others feelings as they play their roles, but the closer they get the more is revealed. How hard will they fight for each other and for their love, and will it be enough.

I loved this book and adored their story. They had a love that survived outside forces and each other when they were their own worst enemies. Every chapter made me feel as if I were walking in their shoes and beside them as they told their story. While the spice, angst, and drama heightened the appeal...it was their ability to see each others souls and be each others safe place that drew me in. I did not want the story to end, but I loved the way it did.

On one hand, the connection between Amir and Zadie was on fire. Amir loved her so much and saw no flaws in him and I loved that, but on the other hand it bugged me that nobody was going to address the fact that Amir stood by and worked for someone who beat a woman and would have burnt a trailer with an innocent minor in it. Then you find out that him and his brother were from a well off family and you have even less respect for him. I just couldn't let it go, no matter how sweet he was to Zadie. That being said, I'm glad I kept reading. When Amir got over his drunken pity party and then immediately was like, It's clear what I need to do and Marco was like what??? And instead of it being some crazy plan to kidnap Zadie and keep her no matter what, he was like...I obviously need to get out of business with my brother, I was like, "Hell freaking yeah, somebody in a book is actually going to practice a modicum of common sense and do the right thing, before making every bad choice! It meant even more that he did it before Julien got hurt. Anyway, my point is, if you like a redemption story, this is a great one. 😘

Bright Like Midnight has become one of my favorite books by this author! It is also one of my top three favorite books I’ve read this year out of the many books I’ve read!

Amir and Zadie have great chemistry and banter. I absolutely loved reading the first bedroom scene and what led up to it. It was a noteworthy scene that required the use of my bookmark and highlight features in Kindle. I didn’t realize until after I read the book, that there was a prologue. My kindle opened on chapter 1 instead of the prologue. I was excited to know there was still more to the story when I went to reread it. For readers who typically skip the prologue, I wouldn’t recommend skipping the one in this book. It is so good.

Bright Like Midnight lives up to its attention grabbing book cover. Amir is the complicated bad guy that makes readers want to know more about him. His introduction in Soft Like Thunder made me crave his story just as badly as his clients craved the products he sold. The chemistry between him and Zadie had just begun in that book and intensifies in this book. Reading Soft Like Thunder before Bright Like Midnight isn’t necessary but may be helpful for readers who want to know more about their back story or Zadie’s roommates. Fans of the tv show, The Good Girls will probably love this book as much as I do. Amir reminds me of a young Rio from that show, especially when he calls Zadie little Mama. Amir is wonderfully jealous and protective over Zadie.

Zadie is also a character with a lot of depth. She’s a curvy attractive college student who doesn’t realize how attractive she truly is. I enjoyed reading her point of view just as much as Amir’s point of view. Her struggles along with her complicated relationship with Amir give this book a great angsty story. I loved this book and wish I could reread it for the first time again. I look forward to reading more books in this series. I can’t wait to read Elena’s story. Hopefully, the wait won’t be too long. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy rereading Bright Like Midnight and rewatching The Good Girls.

What called me to this book was because Amir was Latino, I don’t know how to tell you, but when he called her mama, I was like “ daaaaannng” I was sold!
Then I was a little unsure because of how sweet Zaire was, enough to become diabetic, but I gave it a shot!
As the plot was unraveling, o totally understood why each character were that way and I absolutely loved it!
Amir is absolutely mouth watering and Zaide grew on me!
I love it! Really! This is my first book from Julia, and I already put on my TBR a least three from her!
    It’s really worth the read!!

Bad boy reformed by h. Interesting and unique. You don't find that trope often. While it was well written and the characters were great, atleast initially, when the girl pretended to accept the guy for what he was. She changes tone pretty quickly. I don't really care for a reformed bad boy. So the main girl makes me take away 1 star.

    🌶️🌶️🌶️/5.

I had a great time with this!
I loved Zadie’s quite strength and how she knew herself and her limits.
Usually Zadie is normally not my type of heroine but she got me since book 1.
I just loved everything about her. She was shy but not naive and I think that was the balance for me.
I also loved Amir. I admire that he felt like he needed to stick by his brother but ultimately when the ship is about to think, you have to make a decision. Ride it out or sink with it.
I loved their quite yet explosive romance.

I absolutely loved this book, it’s beautifully written with such detail and emotion - and yea I had tears in parts.
Loved the journey they took to reach that amazingly perfect ending.
The suspense and mystery, the danger and craziness and the friendship in this book were all so well thought out.
The steamy scenes were hot AF.
Loved how the girls stepped up themselves against the stupidity of the frat.
I also loved Julian - I think he was actually my fav character from this book - would be ecstatic to read a spin off book about him.
Overall yet another amazing book from this author - every time I start one of her books I can never put in down until the very last word, just amazing.

I highly recommend this book and am eagerly waiting for the next one in this series. If you are reading this review and haven't read any of Julia's books please try one, you won't regret it but would recommend reading them in order.
