Broken: A Gay Romance (Heaven and Hell Club Book 1) Kindle Edition
One is young and on the streets. The other is older, but not necessarily wiser. Can two men repair the damage that nobody sees?
Leeds, England. Jag never wants to see his parents again. Still suffering the horrors of their forced conversion therapy, the lithe dancer keeps moving to stay safe from their reach. But when he walks into a gay bar to seek pole-dancing work, the sexy, more mature owner’s gaze makes him want to drop all his no-strings-attached rules along with his pants.
Michael can’t shake his grief. Despite a string of sultry affairs, he has lost every single partner because of his feelings for a man long dead. But when he observes his young new hire giving it all for the patrons, the heartsick club owner starts to develop the type of deep affection he thought he’d permanently lost.
Struggling to overcome his fear that his family will find and hurt him, Jag can’t help falling hard for his experienced lover. And when Michael longs for more, he must risk heartbreak in exchange for another chance at forever…
Will the damaged couple heal their way to happily ever after?

Oh my happy heart i loved this story. I laughed and i cried and i will carry the heart of these MC's with me for a long time. The writing was beautiful and so compelling. The story-line flowed and was engaging.
Jag and Michael are two halves of a whole and this is an amazing story about how trust can change two lives. I really enjoyed both MC's and i loved the romance of so many of the scenes that were created so beautifully.
There are some very painful scenes in this book and i would recommend reading the trigger warnings. However each memory and experience leads to understanding the conflict and makeup of Jag and Michael.
This is a beautiful read and i highly recommend it!!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis one felt like it reached into my body, tore my heart out and wrenched it dry, just to be certain it broke my heart. Lol...
Joking aside, I expected some amount of angst but not at the level it actually delivered. It wasn’t angst between the MCs but the author (who’s new to me) did a really good job in making you feel for Jag. It’s a simple story, one where we don’t relive Jag’s horrific conversion therapy days but still the vague picture painted was enough to really break my heart. So kudos to the author for that!
I will admit though, it didn’t feel like a British author. It lacked all the slang words that is so common when reading British novels that I was confused when they used pounds instead of dollars. The bedsit did clue me in some but otherwise, it was indistinguishable as a being set in the UK. Not sure if that’s good or bad. Just an observation, in the least 😬
I also like that there’s so perfect resolution to Jag’s...problem? Predicament? I won’t spoil it but suffice to say, I liked that the author didn’t just piece together a hasty resolution to tie everything neatly in a bow.
All in all, I’m mighty impressed with this author and this story!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is my review of the audiobook:
I loved this story. Jag and Michael each broke my heart a little, and it made me happy to watch them slowly begin to heal each other. Jag's parents put him through so much that was horrifically traumatic, and he was doing all he could just to survive. And Michael was still grieving the loss of a partner who was his soulmate. These two fell quickly into lust and slowly into love. The story was sexy and beautiful, and the narrator's performance was perfection. I recommend this wonderful book, which is even more amazing in audio format.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis hurt comfort story had me in the feels. Feeling protective, anger, fear, and so much love. It also taught me a few things about another country. I never knew England had the horrid conversion therapy places we have here in the states. I always thought it was some f’ed up thing this jacked up country created. I was wrong and I appreciate the knowledge. I love this couple and how their walls finally cracked and they were able to find each other. The writing was good, the smexy was good. And I love Mac.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was my first book by Colette Davison and it was a great book. Lots of hurt/comfort which is my favorite trope to read. Jag was on the run from his family, for 4 years, who put him in conversion therapy rather than supporting and protecting him. Michael provided the comfort Jag needed and ultimately they fall in love. I was surprised that no other characters were introduced that leads you into their book being next. I've never come across that before. We don't get a resolution either whether Jag finally confronts his family or whether they manage to find him and try to have him committed. I felt the ending was anticlimactic especially since the whole book was about Jag hiding from his family and his rules for survival. Hopefully Jag and Michael's story is part of book 2 at least a little bit. I just found out that there is a prequel which is about Mac, Michael's best friend and employee who is married in this book.

It had all the right amount of angst and the sex scenes were SO sexy. I absolutely loved Jag and Michael - their love story is one that will stay with me for a long time. It was my last book of 2020 and I couldn't have been happier. I breezed through it in 2 days and now have a book hangover. Thankfully, Ms. Davison has many more books in this series!
I loved the writing style! Definitely coming back for more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhat a heartbreaking story! Jag is absolutely broken, thanks to his narrow-minded parents. I had a hard time reading this, truly! I had to stop now and then and lay the kindle aside, it hurt so much. Beautifully written, and gut-wrenching this is an amazing story. Michael is really Jag’s Archangel, he delivered Jag from the hell he was in.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars – May we all live and love without fear!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI’m a bit late to the party with this series, but with the recent release of Book 2, Forgotten, I just KNEW I had to play catch-up before picking it up. No reading out of sequence for me this time, no siree! *shakes head*
*sniffs*
*sighs*
I was an emotional wreck at the end of Jag and Michael’s story. Talk about emotional wringer!
I literally sobbed my little heart out. The Mommy thought she was going to have stage an intervention *snorts*. Poor woman has a lot to put up with when I’m living between the pages of a book. Some stories just consume you, don’t they? (Please don’t say it’s just me!)
Can you imagine living your life in constant fear and always having to look over your shoulder? Me either! That is no way to live. Well, this is Jag’s reality. Will his arrival at Michael’s club change all that?! Pfft, like I’m going to give the story away *smirks* I know, I’m awful... *snorts*
I love how Michael isn’t without his own demons either. The heart is a fragile thing and it takes great courage to open it once more to possibilities especially following loss.
Both of these characters touched me in ways (oi, enough of that nonsense!) that I find hard to put into words. The emotional connection, and the intensity of said connection, between Jag and Michael was one that I, as a reader, will never forget.
And don’t even get me started on the pole dancing scenes! Google (other internet search providers are available) was my friend when it came to researching terminology. These scenes came alive in my mind – raw, beautiful, and inherently masculine. They took my breath away. Okay, I confess to ‘maybe’ having to peel my tongue away from the roof of my mouth.
What’s that?
Incorrigible, you say. Guilty as charged *smirks*.
Colette Davison has woven together a beautiful and heart-rending tale that shows even when you think you are broken beyond repair fate may decide otherwise.
Sheesh, if this was the state of me after Book 1, I’ll have to be girding my loins for Book 2! Pray for me, peeps. I have a feeling I’m going to need it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt and beautiful read
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a beautiful and heartfelt read! Jag has been on the run for over 4 years, trying to escape his parents and evade the PIs they have sent after him - their intent to take him back home and finish the conversion therapy they put him through at a private institution when he was a teen. With them having gotten close several times, sometimes with the help of those he considered a friend, he has clear rules for himself to keep him safe. He never thought he would meet someone that would make him slowly start to break them!
Michael has given up on ever finding another partner after losing his husband to a serious illness over 6 years ago. His dates have been disastrous, so maybe it's better to just focus on his club which doubles as a dance studio during the day. He never expected Jag to walk in looking for a job, and to steal his breath away.
As the two grow closer, Michael can't help but want to know more about the man he's falling for, but Jag doesn't know how to trust anyone any more - he's still too broken.
This story pulled me in hard and deep - I really felt the emotions: Jag's fear at being caught, his conflict with needing to leave but wanting to stay, the heartbreak he felt at the thought if having to leave Michael; and Michael's conflict with wanting to help Jag but respecting him enough not to push, and his heartbreak at the thought of losing the one person who he's found who just seemed to 'fit' with him and his past.
Their journey was beautiful to read, and I loved the respect, love and eventual trust they developed for each other. The sex scenes between them were hot, as were the dancing scenes as well - wonderfully descriptive!
I loved the ending, and Jag's realisation that his happiness was not dependent on his parents, but on himself - that their opinion no longer mattered. That Michael helped him get there was an added bonus.
This was my first book by this author and I will definitely be looking for more - a great read that I would recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Moving
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI am really into this author at the moment and this is my 3rd booking a row. This story was really moving but was still a beautiful read. The characters are both so lovely with their own harsh past but all I could do was ride out the story and hope they finally got a happy ending. Ok onto another Davison book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Meh
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseDidn't love it. I didn't really feel the connection b/w the 2 MC's. And while Jag's story was definitely heartbreaking, I didn't feel that emotion come across in the book. I didn't see how he could still love his parents or how he thought they loved him after everything they did. I was waiting for that to come to a head and it never really did. The story just kinda fizzled out and never really went anywhere. You thought it would be this big rollercoaster ride of emotion and it was more like a flat kiddie ride going super slow.
