2016 The Kindle Book Review Kindle Book Award Romance Semi-finalist.

"Susan Ward is Brilliant! Susan Ward knocked it out of the park with this gem....what we've got here is a classic case of "Mars - VS- Venus" and it is so damn epic because it totally captures the way women think versus the way men do, EACH believing their interpretation is revealing and honest, and with good reason because they totally believe their feelings and don't get that the biggest hurdle between male and female is that they don't think or communicate in terms the other understands, and that ISN'T a new revelation...Susan Ward is genius"~ Andrea Smith, USA Today Bestselling Author

"This is an all time favorite of mine. 5+ Stars.
WARD as a MALE POV is sensational. I wanted to float in Alan's headspace for 500 more pages." ~Rachel Blaufeld, Bestselling Author & USA Today Happy Ever After Blog.

I never really put much thought into what it meant to have a book coming out that was in one of my favorite characters points of view.  To finally know what's running through his head after four books in Chrissie's.  I wouldn't have expected him to be so funny.  To hear his inner monologue teeming with emotion, devotion and passion.  Not that I didn't anticipate those things from Alan, I just wasn't prepared for Susan to knock it out of the park so phenomenally. Cheers to you Susan for making Alan even more endearing and for giving his and Chrissie's journey a fantastic conclusion.

But first, let's start at the beginning.  The year is 2013.  It's been many years since the plot ending for The Girl in the Comfortable Quiet. But don't fret!  The format at the beginning of Broken Crown jumps back to key moments in a very fluid manner.  It was highly enjoyable and well written.

There are many shocking events that take place in this book.  And just when you think there's smooth sailing, just remember who wrote it, that it makes the payout even sweeter.

For as much angst and heart break Chrissie and Alan have endured, they arrive to the place they are meant to be and at a perfect moment in time.  Everything they have been through, every harsh word said, every door that was closed, has lead them to this moment.  It has molded them into who they are today.  Someone who knows what they want and are not willing to risk losing that again. I am in love with this book.   It's as simple as that.

Broken Crown has some of my favorite characters making an appearance.  Jack has been in Alan's life a long time and it was great to finally read about his connection throughout the years.  Linda is loyal and a tough cookie as always.  But what I'm really all mushy and excited about?!  The new cast we are introduced to!  I look forward to reading more about Kaley in The Girl of Sand and Fog. You can bet I'm counting down the days for that release. ;)

One last observation.  How gorgeous is this cover and the cover model?! *sigh*

This seemed like a true story about the life and trials of a rock star. Alan meets Chrissie thru her dad. And their love affair spans over twenty years. Not that they were together but their living each other never left. They had other spouses and still kept in contact. This story has many twists and turns. One thing was clear. When they were together he was faithful. But when she married someone else he let loose. Can't wait to read the next book in this saga.

I bought all of Susan Ward's books because I was totally addicted to Alan and Chrissie's story. I was hoping for a book that ties up their story. This is it! If you have read up to this point, you will remember the constant take and give in the whole series between Alan and Chrissie. They get together, they break up, they get together, they break up without anything really being resolved. Mostly on Alan's end.

This book will finally reveal all of the answers to the questions you probably have been asking like I was. And better yet, you read it from Alan's point of view. You finally get to understand the man better and my god, you will fall deeper in love with this man. You finally understand how wounded and scared he is.

The book hits a major point when Chrissie blows Alan away with a major shocking secret that was broken wide open in a way she did not expect it to be revealed. In a way it also brought healing to him which he did not realize that he needed. How easy it was breaking down his walls and make him complete again. But he did struggle a bit with the betrayal and the secrets that Chrissie hid. It made you understand that Chrissie had her own flaws and her own faults. But should this be the final straw for Alan? Whew. It is a major hurdle even when you understand why she did it.

When he asked her why she did not tell him earlier and she said that she was simply waiting for the right time, that she was saving them for him. God, that just broke my heart in a good and bad way. That made so much sense. It's true in a sad way. Just ugh, what a great little scene.

You also finally get to read about Kaley, the oldest child, and the struggles she was having with Alan. You do read about her in "Rewind." Be warned though, "Rewind" is a small jump in the future and deals with Kaley's own love story. Broken Crown is set in time behind "Rewind."

My only question that I was left with after reading this book is... All of them? HOW? Did Chrissie time it right or was she lucky? If you read the book, you'll get what I mean.

While I enjoyed the storyline and the characters, I found myself at times wanting to skim over some of it because it felt like filler to me. I would read for a while and come back to it hoping something would grab my interest. It was always the same thing with Alan and Chrissie, love, mess up and then someone would leave and this went one for many many years. Is that how some people really live their lives? Maybe it's just rockers. I want to read more in this series and I hope it gets better.
This is a first for me from this author and I look forward to seeing what she has in store next to come for this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect conclusion to Half Shell series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 28, 2017
Chrissie and Alan have loved and lost over the years but one thing remains is the constant love and connection they have for eah other. Broken Crown picks up straight after the last book in The Half Shell series. Just when you think Alan and Chrissie are going to be ok, s**t hits the fan and they spend years on an emotional rollercoaster one minute loving each other and connecting and the next hurting each other, but one way or another they always manage to find their way back to each other. Broken crown is the perfect conclusion to The half shell series, tying up all the loose ends up nicely for Alan and Chrissie that we were always left wandering. The road to happiness is never straight though and long kept secrets could tear them apart. It also throws in some major curve balls that you dont see coming. I love Alan and Chrissie throughout the whole series and this concluding book, they help make these books highly captivating, riveting and a complete page turner. Cannot wait to read the other books with some of the other familiar characters from these books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant but read The Girl series first

First book I have read by this author but will be on my Following list!
Absolutely brilliant rollercoaster ride of a book. Can be read on it's own but some sections had a lot more meaning after reading The Girl box set.. I hadn't realised that this is book1 of a second series but after looking for more by this author I have now read the full Half Shell set and then come back to this for a re-read and it is even more engaging.. it's great to see scenes from the other stories from Alan's POV and know what he was thinking.. loved the whole journey!

Wow, wow, wow...all loose endings from Alan and Chrissies epic journey tied up and neatly bowed...I can forgive Susan now for the ambiguous ending of the Girl in the Comfortable Quiet because it was necessary to set the scene for this book from Alan's POV....I laughed out loud, nearly fell off my chair in shock at some revelations and at times wanted to brain both the characters...what a journey and you walk with them both all the way from Book 1 to this book the 5th in their personal journey, although the next book in the Sand and Fog series we will hopefully still get updates.... loved this series, in my top ten books ever and I read alot!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sucked me in
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 30, 2016
I wasn't sure what to expect, I've never read a book by this author before, I started it and it sucked me in completely, I finished it in one sitting as I had to know how things were going to end for Chrissie and Alan. It was interesting to have the book mostly from Alan's POV, although that may have been the only way you could forgive him for some of the things he said to Chrissie - hearing what he was thinking at the same time. I really enjoyed it and will definitely be looking for more from this author.
