Elizabeth: A Pride & Prejudice Novella (Mischief & Matrimony) Kindle Edition
Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy finds himself in the unusual position of chasing a woman rather than being chased.
Miss Elizabeth Bennet is exasperated as Mr. Darcy, the rudest man of her acquaintance, is being nice—to her! How can she continue to despise a man who apologizes so well?
Based on Jane Austen’s classic novel, Pride & Prejudice, Mr. Darcy’s arrogance and pride are equally matched by Miss Elizabeth’s prejudice. While Mr. Darcy hesitates to speak, his cousin, Colonel Fitzwilliam, quite against his canon character, blurts his thought in the most inconvenient manner, adding to Darcy's distress.
In this fast-paced novella set in Regency England, can they both overcome strongly entrenched personalities and the attempts to matchmake by the colonel to discover peace and happiness? Of course, they can. This is Mr. Darcy and his Elizabeth, he hopes.
Elizabeth is appropriate for all readers. Every book in this series is a complete story that can be read in any order.

About the author

Christie Capps is the pen name of Joy King, who also writes as J Dawn King. Because of increasing demands on her time, she has fewer and fewer hours to read. She doubts she is the only one with these circumstances. Therefore, her stories will all be approximately 100 pages of sweet romance and will be priced less than one cup of flavored coffee from your local barista.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2018Sweet novella that will warm your heart and keep a smile on your face. Loved it!
The colonel revealed Darcy's interference with Jane and Bingley at the first meeting at the parsonage which made Elizabeth blow up before a proposal could be uttered and left Darcy in no doubts of her sentiments...
Darcy has his work cut out for him but as this was a delightful version of Darcy, he did put in the effort...
The colonel was a highlight in the story, loved the banter between the cousins.
Heartily recommend this book!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2024This short read served it's purpose. It gave Darcy and Elizabeth a new way of clearing up misunderstandings. I did not like the Colonel. His constantly talking, interrupting, and revealing information was overly used. Furthermore, the the other characters' allowing such behavior without recourse was unbelievable. The one set down was from a character who was wrong. His impulsivity was more on par for Mrs. Bennet. I wish another means had been used to further the action of the story. The story was ok, but the Colonel annoyed enough that it was overshadowed.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2018This is another of this author's books written for the busy woman. This novella takes about an hour to read. It is sweet with little angst.
One of the things that makes this different is that the colonel insists on having his word...about Darcy's love life and then in suggestions about how ODC should proceed when various things are revealed. Yes, Darcy's interference with Bingley and Jane plus Elizabeth's misconceptions about Wickham all come out in conversations. Then there is the matter of Darcy's engagement to Anne.
I must say I was a little taken back with how the colonel seemed to just forge ahead with verbalizing what he knew or what he thought he knew and how to address matters. Having to make instantaneous decisions on the battlefield might be his excuse. Darcy wanting to choke him is understandable.
With this book being written to be read in a short amount of time you must expect that there is a limit to scenarios. This takes place mostly in Kent but then the carriage ride to London for Darcy, the colonel, Elizabeth and her maid is the pivotal scene as to whether he gains the hand of "his Elizabeth".

- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2018I have loved all the Christie Capps stories – and I have loved the cover girls! “Elizabeth” features yet another dark-haired beauty. It makes me wonder how lovely Jane must be for her mother to praise her looks and disparage Elizabeth’s … but I digress.
Darcy as usual has loved Elizabeth from afar without her knowledge of his interest. His cousin, the Colonel, pries into Darcy’s inner longings and puts two and two together. He sees his duty to clear the way for love to build.
Inner beauty, too, needs occasionally to be told it is beautiful. ~ Robert Brault
After angering Elizabeth with the knowledge of the Bingley/Jane separation, Darcy must call on his inner romantic to make amends. Even then, Elizabeth is surprised when someone blurts out the truth of Darcy’s feelings.
Both Darcy’s cousins, de Bourg and Fitzwilliam, are full of surprises. Anne may be her Mother’s daughter after all.
This is a short book, well-written and clean. I would recommend it to JAFF lovers who want a break from angst and are looking for a spoonful of honey.
I've never seen a smiling face that was not beautiful. ~ Author unknown
- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2018This is short and uncomplicated, as are all Christie Capps' books. It took me under 2 hours to finish. Not a lot of angst, since it doesn't take too long to get to the HEA. I love the premise. It's a humorous, light story.
However, I just don't find this as satisfying as most of this author's other works for several reasons.
Colonel Fitzwilliam feels too over-the-top-clueless to me. The man is a verbal bull in a china shop and makes me cringe right along with Darcy. This is an earl's son, even though he's a soldier, for heaven's sake. He certainly knows better than to initiate a very personal family discussion in front of a servant. If this had truly been the Colonel's personality, Jane Austen's Darcy never would have wanted to spend any time with him. I've always loved Fitzwilliam, and I found his characterization here annoying.
There's an odd glitch. Darcy makes a very public declaration to Lady Catherine and Anne that he won't ever marry Anne. Elizabeth is in the room. In fact, her presence partially motivates Darcy to speak up. Strangely, in the very next chapter, Elizabeth refers to Anne as Darcy's betrothed, and Darcy tells her that he never proposed to Anne as though this would be news to her. Did the author forget that Elizabeth witnessed Darcy's forceful statement to his aunt and cousin? I couldn't figure this out.
This also lacks romance, especially in the pivotal scene where Elizabeth learns Darcy loves her. It should be the romantic peak of the book, but instead it feels awkward and a little icky to me. The reader is left to imagine there's subsequent romance based on the information given in the Epilogue.
The writing itself demonstrates Ms. Capps' usual excellence (with the exception of an "indicted" that should have been "indicated"). The basic plot is cute.
This talented author can do much, much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short and sweet
Another winning short story. This one has a 'helpful' Colonel Fitzwilliam who discovers that Darcy is in love with Elizabeth and tries to assist his suit! Unfortunately he tends to make things worse. Luckily his reaction to Wickham does help Elizabeth to look more favourably at Darcy. A definite book to 're read.

At Rosings, Darcy realizes that he needs to be honest with Lizzie. With plenty of prodding from Col. F, they get rid of the misunderstandings. Delightful.
