REBELLE AND WILL'S STORY IS FINALLY HERE!

Rebelle Black just wants to be left alone. Free from the shackles of her abusive husband, she’s starting her life over and finally doing things her way. That is, until a billionaire with an annoying award-winning smile shows up at her shelter and offers her the help she hates to admit she needs.

He’s everything she avoids: loud, domineering, brash, yet so damn charming she can’t help but lower her guard. She swore never to tie herself to a man again but this one is forcing his way into her life and quite possibly into her heart.

Will Crawford is having a midlife crisis. He’s a billionaire playboy who has left his celebrity lifestyle behind to spend two weeks in Citrus Pines celebrating a friend’s wedding. Only now, he can’t bear the thought of getting back to his life and business empire.

On his way out of town he sees the sign he’s been looking for. The
Take A Chance shelter needs a volunteer. Except it’s run by the prickly woman he’s been fantasizing about for weeks who couldn’t be less interested in him. Can he convince Rebelle to take a chance on him and help him find the happiness that’s been eluding him? Or will he have to leave it all behind and return to the big city?

Take A Chanceis the 5th book in the Citrus Pines series by Lila Dawes and is a grumpy x sunshine (she's grumpy!) romance set in the small town readers have fallen in love with.
There are a number of themes discussed in this book and these are listed in the front matter, please take care when reading.

It's Only Love.

Snippet:
Rebelle fed the animals, the dogs howling away for their food while the cats appeared disinterested, but she knew they were starving really. Me too buddy, me too. She paused for a moment, wiping her hand across her sweaty forehead and then she heard it; gravel flicking up as a car came up the path towards the shelter.
Rebelle’s heart pounded in her chest, her pulse throbbed in her ears. The dogs began barking wildly and she stumbled outside, the sun blinding her and she wrangled the animals inside before they knocked over whoever had come to visit. When she finally turned around, she lifted her arm to shield her eyes from the sun and fear pounded through her once again.

It’s him.
The terrifying man she had seen at the bar once. He was tall, hugely built, his white dress shirt pulled tight across his wide chest, his arms corded with muscles and his black pants, held up by suspenders, clung to thighs thicker than her hips. Rebelle hated muscles; all they were was evidence of the strength someone could use to hurt you.
His shoes looked like they cost more than the building behind her and don’t even get her started on his fancy mid-life crisis car, gleaming red in the sunshine. The sun bounced off his hair, strawberry blond and swept to one side,. She could see tattoos crawling up his chest and wrapping around his neck, running down the forearms that were being revealed as he rolled up his shirtsleeves. Expensive looking sunglasses shielded his eyes but she didn’t want to see them.
She wanted him to leave.

Now.
He was a mountain of a man and she had faced men like him before. He scared her, her fear rooting her to the spot. That fear didn’t dissipate even when he pulled off his sunglasses, revealing his bright eyes, one green and one blue. Didn’t dissipate when his mouth split wide with a smile, exposing straight, white teeth that practically sparkled in the sun.
In fact, as she took him in her fear only grew, even more so when he opened his mouth and his deep voice, so thick, so male, rumbled from him.

“Well, hello there beautiful, fancy seeing you here.”

"Take A Chance is yet another masterpiece in Lila Dawes' wonderful world of Citrus Pines. I cannot recommend this enough!"

"Wow... where do I even begin? Will and Rebelle's story is absolute perfection. Their chemistry is off the charts and the authentic connection is one of my all time favs. This is a fantastic read and can’t wait to read the other books in this series."

"Lila has done it again!!! Another incredible book in the Citrus Pines series. I didn't want it to end! While Rebelle's story was heartbreaking at times, I absolutely loved the growth from her. I may have teared up a few times! I loved, loved, loved Will!!! The big muscled, tattooed, billionaire who has the kindest, most tender heart. Swoon!! I love that he fell first but was also so respectful of Rebelle."

"In walks Will “award winning smile” Crawford he’s the sunshine that Rebelle never knew she needed. With his smexy smile and not forgetting his suspenders (fire emoji)"

"First of all, this is a new author for me. This is book 5 in this series, it can be read as a standalone but it’s in an interconnected series. This was definitely slow burn but it’s intense leading up. Rebelle was able to take control in a way she never was able to. I’ve never seen a woman take charge like she does. Will gives off golden retriever vibes and I’m living for it. He’s honestly one of the best MMC I’ve come across."

"WILL. FREAKING. CRAWFORD. That's the review. Carry on..."

"I devoured this book on my plane ride home from a business trip. It was fast-paced, slow burn, and just so emotional."

"If emotional reads are your thing, then this is a book you want to pick up right now! Did I cry? Yes. Was I disappointed by anything? Absolutely not!"

"I have read a few book now from this author and trust me when i say that it definitely won’t be my last - I’m coming back for more!! Right from the very first chapter this book pulled me in and wouldn’t let me go until i had turned every page and devoured it all!! There is everything to love in this book, from heartwarming moments to cuteness and laughs, plenty of spice and let’s not forget the one thing that everyone remembers - the braces/suspenders!!!"

"I really enjoyed Rebelle and Will’s story, I love the reverse grumpy/sunshine trope and this really came through on the page. Will was so patient and so giving that it was impossible for Rebelle to not fall for him. I loved their chemistry and the slow burn…boy what a slow burn laughing emoji but I really loved that Rebelle took back her control especially in the form of bedroom antics fire emoji who doesn’t love a lady boss in the bed? Will certainly enjoyed it smirking emoji."

I’ve been so excited for Rebelle’s story since first being introduced to her earlier in the series. Take a Chance is another wonderful addition to Citrus Pines and Rebelle and Will just might be my new favorite Citrus Pines couple. Once again Lila Dawes has managed to write a steamy and swoon romance that also deals with some really difficult topics, but she does so with sensitivity and care.

Rebelle has been through so much and her story broke my heart. However, I loved seeing her strength and her growth. Will was so gentle and patient with her and watching her learn to trust and open up to him was so satisfying. Will’s background is also really interesting and I enjoyed seeing his development.

If you enjoy grumpy/sunshine, animal rescue, strong friendships, and small-town settings, then you should definitely read Rebelle and Will’s story!

Reading Rebelle and Will’s love journey was such an interesting experience. The reason for this as it’s revealed how both of them did not have easy early lives and how that affects them in their current lives especially in Rebelle’s case. So seeing them interact and fall for each other made reading the book an enjoyable experience.

This book definitely deals with sensitive topics that could trigger some people so do check before reading.

Can’t wait to read the further exploration of this literary universe that Lila Dawes has created.

Pure charm and romance is what you will get with Lila Dawes’ Take a Chance. This is my first novel by this author and as soon as I finished this book I downloaded the first in this series. Lila Dawes’ writing is clear and charming, she takes care with her subject matter as this romance grows between two people who have difficult pasts and a hard time trusting others. Dawes’ world and characters are so clear and understandable. I was really impressed with how quickly I was swept up into this romance, and how connected I felt to each of the characters.

Take a Chance is a story of two souls finding each other. It is about two people at a crossroads in their lives and needing to make a change. Through a reverse grump/sunshine trope this story blossoms into a really lovely romance about two people learning to care for another, learning to trust another, and learning to stand up for what they truly need. I loved watching Will and Rebelle fall for the other. I love that they both found a mutual interest that they could grow and dream bigger. I love that Will is drawn to Rebelle and wants to take care of her while still recognizing that she is strong and independent. I love that both Rebelle and Will have a journey of self discovery that they must go on in order to truly fall in love and become the people they are meant to be. Lila Dawes really beautifully explores their romance through interactions, small gestures, and an opening of minds. These two people become the strength the other needs to gain the confidence and clarity in order to ask for what they deserve. I also really love that Dawes’ secondary characters are well rounded and developed and are a wonderful additional support system to the main characters.

Take a Chance was a beautiful introduction to a new author for me. It is one that I would so highly recommend especially if you a small town romance that has a layer of hard work. I adored this novel and I so excited to explore the others in this series!

Thank you so much to Lila Dawes’ for an eARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

First of all, this is a new author for me. This is book 5 in this series, it can be read as a standalone but it’s in an interconnected series. We do see the other couples in this book and it definitely makes me want to go back and read their origin stories.

This story revolves around Rebelle and Will. Rebelle has been through horrific traumatic events that led her to not being able to open up or wanting close relationships. She carries so much and does not want to depend on anyone. She resides in a shelter with stray animals that she cares for but reluctantly is in need of some help.
Will is an overworked billionaire with so many depending on him. Wanting a break, he spends time in Citrus Pines to get a breather and attends a friend’s wedding. On his way back home, he sees a sign for volunteer for a shelter. To his surprise, it’s the woman that’s been on his mind since the wedding.
Rebelle doesn’t want nothing to do with him and sends him on his way out quickly but Will however was really persistent in getting to know her and help her out. He respected her in every way or form. Rebelle has her walls so high and guards them with all her might but Will little by little shows her not every man is the same. Her growth was extraordinary.
This was definitely slow burn but it’s intense leading up. Rebelle was able to take control in a way she never was able to. I’ve never seen a woman take charge like she does.
Will gives off golden retriever vibes and I’m living for it. He’s honestly one of the best MMC I’ve come across.

This is written in 3rd person and it’s the first ever for me that I’ve read tbh. I wasn’t used to it but I quickly adjust to it. Other than that, this was touching storyline and you can’t help but root for these two.

I suggest reading the trigger warnings 🙏🏽

    I loved this book!
We meet Rebelle, and wow, has she been through some terrible times. But deep down inside, she has some fight left in her and gradually, with the help of her newly found friends, she is beginning to rebuild her life.
I loved the way she so gradually allows herself to trust people, and just as much I loved the way her new friends draw her into their circle and fill her life with acceptance and love, encouraging her to try new things, to 'take a chance' and to open up her heart to feelings again.
I also LOVE the man who comes to the shelter to volunteer - he's a man at the end of his rope with the demands placed upon him in his life, and he just needs something more meaningful in his life.
It's a wonderful, gradual development as these two people find each other and find completeness with each other. Definitely a two-hankie book!
But there are plenty of laughs, cuteness overload, sexy bits and of course - those suspenders/braces everyone is so excited about!
And: bonus - there are cats! And dogs. What's not to love?
    I highly recommend this book!
