I really like the settings that Mr. Vanucci comes up with as background for his zombie novels, something I don't see all that much in the zombie books. I enjoyed the characters and how he meshed them in with their surroundings. Add in the fact that the main characters had to deal with zombies AND the various dangerous zoo creatures made it an exciting reading experience. The story was solid and had a lot of emotional elements to it. My only niggle with the book as a whole is that it would have been even better if it was edited a little better. It didn't take away too much from the story but would have made the story flow a little better and would have helped a little with some of the dialogue between characters. Overall a great read if you are into zombies in interesting locales.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I will just say that I did not like this book nearly as much as Mr. Vanucci's Wake the Dead. That was an awesome book. I feel like there wasn't enough to the story somehow. Maybe it was just me. Sorry

As always I can count on Vanucci to give some interesting situations and plot twists. This setting for the second in what is unfolding to be a zombie series, raises some interesting ethical questions. There were some times when solutions were a little too easy, but it was a fun, zombie smashing read. I am wondering if the hero from this story will meet up with the hero from the first story, ala Stephen Kings The Stand.

Another stunning zombie Apocalypse novel from Mr. Vanucci!

With nail biting reality, Cage the dead keeps you engaged as the characters come so unbelievably alive that they could walk right off the pages. The tense nature of the book is well played and pacing is perfect. Readers who enjoy zombies or any end of times scenario will love Cage the dead, as the author has really hit it out of the park with yet another sure to be best seller!

I read it, it was entertaining. But I found it ultimately unbelievable, even for Zompoc. EVERYONE at the zoo the main character works at turns in about 15 minutes. Seriously? NO ONE was in a bathroom and escaped, or hid somewhere? Apparently, not.

And honestly, this is the kind of setting that SHOULD be a YA zombie novel. But for some unknown reason the author chose to put a random explicit masturbation scene in mid-way through the story. It didn't advance the story and only serves to limit the audience.

All that said, there weren't any problems with plot consistency or odd plot holes, and there weren't issues with editing. It was professionally done, just not to my taste.

Good thing it was free. Use some contractions, we're not five years old. The story would have been a good one but the jumping around and not finishing thoughts. One minute Gaia is following to the cages then shes picking up her cell off the table.

And of course I can't put a book away without finishing it, even when its this bad.

I love a good zombie horror story and this one did not disappoint. This was refreshingly different since the setting was in a zoo. I was so engrossed in this book, I started this book at 5pm and finished at 9pm. I am a huge Konrath fan and now I can also add Gary F. Vanucci, to my list of favorite horror authors. Due to the author's vivid writing, I will continue to read the series and support his books.

I've enjoyed this author's work before but this one won't be on my 'read it again' list. The writing is very YA focused, regardless of the mature audience warning.

5.0 out of 5 stars You will begin to care
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 16, 2018
Happy with her life, Gaia loved her boyfriend and had a great job working with the primates at the local zoo. Going to work like any other day, but on this day, folk began to act weird and before she knew it she was running for her life.
As soon as you start this story you are hit with the walking dead, set in a zoo, you can imagine how many people were wandering around. Gaia threw herself straight into the action, and whilst at the start she found it hard to kill the zombies, she eventually desensitized herself. However, her love for the animals was strong. The arrival of Justin, a young lad on a school trip brought out her maternal skills, but when Justin met Solomon, the giant silverback, the bond between them two was unbelievable.
This was a quick read as I wanted to see if Gaia survived. It was fast paced as there was always something going on. There were some shock moments, as the more you read the more you start to care, but this is a zombie apocalypse and not everyone survives.
The ending completed this story and I did let out a little cheer, I would love to know who survived and where they went next,

5.0 out of 5 stars A Zombie outbreak reaches the zoo. Very emotional roller coaster that was a great surprise.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 3, 2014
I initially downloaded this because it was a zombie novel and it was free. What surprised me was that I quickly started to care for the characters whether human or animal.

The Gaia's emotions were felt when she started losing the ones she loved. I especially loved the ending, both the lost and the found.

I look forward to reading other books by Gary F. Vanucci
