Camwolf Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 15 ratings

A race to save his lover—by becoming his own worst nightmare.
Dr. Nick Sewell has it all. Good friends, a career as a Cambridge academic… and recently, a tendency to turn into a wolf every full moon. When a new student arrives from Germany, Nick is horrified by his visceral attraction to the troubled youth—not to mention his violent jealousy when he sees Julian with another man. He’s floored to find out Julian is a werewolf too.
Unlike Nick, Julian has spent his life among other wolves, and in this subject, he’s the teacher and Nick the student. Nick struggles to adjust to this reversal of roles, especially since he’s an alpha and Julian a natural submissive. That dynamic just adds to the attraction smoldering between them, whether they’re in human form or wolf.
But Julian’s pack and the abuse he suffered aren’t far behind him. And the pack wants to reclaim him. For Nick to hold on to his lover, he’ll have to come to terms with the violent acts of his past—and embrace the monster within.

Review

There is a warning to go with this story. If you start reading it, you won't be able to stop - Romance Junkies I adored it. The characters were brilliant. The world-building was so subtle and so well-done -- how different the wolves were from the humans, but how Nick used both sides of himself to win Julian and the battle against Julian's abusive partner and Julian's father. The tone/voice was pitch perfect. - Dear Author an intense and interesting werewolf tale that definitely stands out from the pack...Julian is quirky, flawed, interesting, and definitely an easy scene stealer while Nick's more gradual change is subtle but as important. Together they make a compelling couple - Whipped Cream Reviews A DABWAHA finalist, and awarded an Honorable Mention in the 2011 Rainbow Awards.

I'm not sure which is more exotic to this American Midwesterner - the werewolves or the Cambridge University setting. I loved reading about both. A little mystery, a lot of tension, and a really well developed best friend character all add up to a very enjoyable book!

Nick, a Cambridge Don. He was turned in error by an ex, who abandoned him. His changes every full moon are extremely painful. He knows of no other werewolves other than his maker. I take it he’s in his late 30s. He’s gay.

Julian. Anglo-German student in his early 20s. Has come to the UK to live with his mother and stepfather. They know he’s a werewolf and gay. His bio father in Germany is evil, acting almost like a Nazi. He wants his son back.

Julian is an omega, Nick an alpha who knows basically nothing about the shifter culture. It’s up to Julian to teach him that the change can happen any time and be painless

There was no romantic connection between Nick and Julian, it seemed to be all about possession on Nick’s behalf and nothing else but submission on Julian’s part once he understood that Nick wanted him. I was waiting for tender feelings to develop and some loving and tender conversations between them but there was nothing apart from Nick growling, ‘mine’, to Julian in their moments of sex. Nick finds it difficult to control himself and suffers jealousy when anyone touches Julian. He seems constantly angry and snaps at students unlucky enough to have to come into contact with him.

I understand that Nick had been turned into a werewolf a short few years before, and had had no one to help or guide him, but I was constantly wanting to clip him around the back of his head and tell him to pull himself together, get a grip and to use his brain.

There was no real development of the main characters and not really very much joy in the book apart from when finally, Nick and Julian do seem to find love.

    2 stars.

This is my first werewolf story from JL Merrow and I was totally hooked from start to finish. Unlike the usual Shifter romances, it's not just mindless sex and animalistic activities. The human aspect with all its senseless normal actions have been woven through perfectly.

Nick is a fellow lecturer in History at Cambridge and currently infatuated with Julian, a handsome student. As Nick bumbles through a rocky road to his love, Julian opens up that he knows who or what Nick is...and that Julian is also a werewolf! So, that was a pleasant turn of events for Nick, but Julian has had an abusive past and his rogue ex BF is getting closer.

I loved Nick and how he had to cope with all the new revelations and fights. Julian is a bit too mysterious or enigmatically portrayed. It's like he conceals a lot and ommunications could have been better between them. Other than that I have no complaints, the story was totally engrossing for me and I loved it.
