The Captain's Mate (Blue Solace Book 6) Kindle Edition
Draif Ando started life as a slave on Vextonar. When he was fifteen, he met his best friend, Leti Ando, and life got a lot better. Now he's a Charybdis Station captain and works closely with the Lord Admiral of the Station. He is a free man, finally has a purpose of his own, and has the the best lieutenant in the galaxy by his side. If he's so content, why does he yearn for more, and why is he suddenly picturing children with his eyes and Lucas' ears and tail?
Lucas Meluth knew that Draif was his life mate from the moment they met. He also knew that Draif was demisexual and wasn't attracted to Lucas. Not at first. Now, Lucas notices the way Draif's eyes follow him and the way Draif's innocent touches are suddenly not so innocent. Has the time come for their friendship to turn into more?
Draif and Lucas may finally be figuring their relationship out, but their enemies are approaching and it's time to protect Charybdis Station and rid the galaxy of Humans First, once and for all.
Author's Note: 55,000 words. This is a sci-fi/fantasy, m/m love story with no angst and no cheating, just a HEA. There is lots of action, a little sex, mpreg, and a few potty mouths involved in the story. 18+ readers only, please. It is also the sixth book in a series that is best read in order. Read "The Mercenary's Mate," "The General's Mate," "The Soldier's Mate," "The Lieutenant's Mate," and "The Engineer's Mate" first!

About the author

I have been self-publishing m/m romance since October, 2018 and enjoy sharing my books with readers all over the world. I'm also a reader and I love to read everything I can get my hands on, especially m/m romance. My favorites are mpreg, sci-fi, fantasy, and paranormal. I have four series right now.
1). My Hobson Hills Omegas series is light and sweet non-shifter mpreg. They are novella length (35,000-45,000 words) and angst-free.
2). My Blue Solace series is a sci-fi/fantasy romance and has more action and adventure. The romance, however, is still light and sweet. They are longer (40,000-60,000 words).
3). My third series is called The Silver Isles and is a paranormal mermen trilogy. They are also a little longer than Hobson Hills (45,000-50,000 words) and are low heat and light and fluffy.
4). My fourth series is a paranormal, mpreg series of holiday short stories called Holiday Omegas (10,000-14,000 words). The first few stories follow one couple as they meet, fall in love, and develop their relationship.
If you like zero angst, light and fluffy romance, give one of my books a try!

- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2024Lucas doesn’t know all of his mate Draif’s history, but respects Draif’s close quarter fighting skills and his ability as a ship’s captain. More of Draif’s abilities to analyze, plan and orchestrate attacks against their enemies will be revealed. During this scary time of the rising threat from Human-First, enjoy how Draif and Lucas handle the attacks, the losses and joys, especially those of the steamy moments!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2019I completely enjoy the writings of C.W.! I own every one of her books in this series (The Blue Solace) as well as the Hobson Hills series and the Hobson Hills shorts. So far, all of her "main character couples" seem to gravitate towards each other and work together to achieve their happy ending in love. Draif and Lucas' love story is no exception.
I love how C.W.'s characters are just who they are. Draif took some time to recognize that his feelings for Lucas were true, deep and everlasting. Lucas, for his part, was extremely patient as his feelings were true, deep and everlasting. This felt like a gentler story to me and the epic battles against their enemies were handled "quietly" for lack of a better description. There was absolute closure for Draif's childhood and there was an added assortment of animals, children, new characters, simultaneous battles, more creatures and other love stories that were alluded to. I hope there will be more books coming out that will perhaps explain parts of the grand finale battle as well as sort out other love stories that were hinted at in this book. There was a definitive conclusion to the over-arching plot line of the Queen and Human's First. I cried at the scene where Meggie meets her daughter upon her return. I can't wait to see where C.W. Gray takes us next!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2020The story continues to be appealing even with the odd characters and the increasingly complex web of relationships and connected storylines. The same sex relationships are interesting, though I find that the sex scenes are mostly not needed and skim all of them. Decent resolution for the major themes in this book and a gentle push into the next in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2020I've been waiting for this since Lucas first got hurt and draif was all confused and protective. So much better than I ever could have hoped for.
The biggest problem with c w gray's work is that you want to immediately jump into the next in the series and writing reviews is just too much time to waste before diving back in. I've wanted this for too long though and it exceeded every single expectation.
Draif is so wily and amazing. Him uncovering just how smart and awesome he is on the unexpected was the highlight of this book. Ok, One of the highlights. Cause there's lots. When Lucas told those 3 captains that'd they would be "pulled into the web" I just about DIED. This book was PACKED with action and political intrigue. I just can't describe how perfect it was.
This was the perfect placement for draif's story too. It all came together so freaking perfectly I just want to finish this series and immediately jump back to book 1 and start again. Huh. Guess there's no reason not to!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2019Draif was absolutely fantastic as he out-strategized and impoverished the Humans First rabble. I loved that Lucas saw the value and incredible ability his mate possessed from the beginning and was willing to allow Draif to shine in the spotlight. This whole story was delightful to read as we saw the beautiful joining of Draif and Lucas, as well as the culmination of all of the preparation that everyone on Charybdis Station has undertaken to date.
I'm also excited to see that it looks like this series will continue with Finn and Fire's stories yet to come.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2019This epic battle on the Station side, the Queen battle is a previous book, was just pulled together and built up wonderfully. I don't know how the author could plan such a complicated thing out.
And its hard to review without spoilers.
First, if you haven't read the other books in this series, DON'T START WITH THIS ONE. You won't know what's going on. This sucker has built up - seriously - to now and there's no Cliff Notes. Not when there are two dozen Main Characters, maybe more considering good and bad guys, and I bet over one hundred pets. Love them all.
Mmm Mmm Mmm. When those ships lined up. And naming Draif's flag ship. And Honey. Did I enjoy the haircut scene more than the poetry? It was all good.
👍👍
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2019I'm really happy I came across this series. I got to read the first six books back to back, sad now I have to anxiously await Finn's story.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2022Drain and Lucas are a great couple. The things they went through to go from friends to mates, made the story even better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hoping the next book comes soon ...
I don’t like to judge books, because my taste is different from other readers taste. I buy books because their excerpt intrigues me.
Those are funny and lovely books full of love and crazy family members.
But I love this book and the story it tells and can recommend it.
The same goes for the other books in this series.
The conversations between the parties involved are funny, sarcastic, hilarious - but never lack love.
Can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I’m very happy I found this new author and I hope they are writing more books for us to enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely!
To appreciate this book you need to read the previous books. I enjoyed the way this story explained how HF were defeated. Nice closure.
