    This was a great start to a new series. This was such a unique story about the battle between dark and light magic users. It took me a little bit to get a handle on the who's who and all the terms in this magical world, as the author set the stage and was building this fascinating world, but once I did I was fully invested in Bastian and Andras's adventures! Bastian was such a kind soul with powerful magic who was treated so poorly by his "family" and deserved to find someone to really care about him. Andras was a hoot, so silly and non-serious at times, but got serious when he needed to in order to protect those he cared for. As they are "working together " to figure out what's going on, there is a budding attraction building between Andras and Bastian that was really cute, often hilarious, and a tad steamy! This was an action packed adventure, with a side of slow burn, low heat romance that kept me flipping pages, laughing out loud at times, and rooting for them to come out on top! We are left in a good place, but with not quite everything explained, leaving me excited for what's to come!

Bastian and Andras are on opposite sides of a battle that rages between dark and light. But when Bastian captures Andras, he starts to realize that not all darkness is evil and should be eradicated. When Andras, who embodies darkness, is the one person in the world who shows him kindness and makes him feel valued, how can that be bad? They soon find themselves working together to figure out just what is going on with an evil hooded entity that seems to be impervious to their usual weapons. Can it be defeated? You should definitely read and find out! I'm off to read book 2!

    If you think Alice's books are just romantic-comedy stories, you are entirely wrong.
    All her books are rich in story and they are real backbone stories, not just some thin plot that fill most of the spaces with romantic scenes.
    The story in this book is so tense, and I cannot predict which way it will move while reading.
    If not for Andras, the book might be covered in darkness, really. So, thanks for his denseness(laugh).

    Bastian and Andras’s story was a great slow burn, low heat romance with a wonderful story woven throughout. PNR isn’t always my go-to, but when it’s Alice, I’ll never pass it up. Alice's humor and wit makes it a great read! I really couldn't put this one down. Bastian and Andras should not be as good together as they are! They really compliment each other it the best of ways. I liked the way Andras was always making Bas laugh and lifting him up. I enjoyed the supporting characters as well and watching Andras torture them. This book definitely had some unexpected twists and turns! At one point I thought I had it figured out, but nope! Alice threw me for a loop. I really enjoyed the world building and I'm excited to read more. The book ends with a HFN but there's definitely some drama coming in book two and I can't wait to see what happens!

    In terms of humour and my reading enjoyment, Alice's books are usually hit or miss for me. This one ended up being a miss. The humour was sparse and felt forced. The idea for the story itself wasn't bad, but seemed thin for the length of this story. No one was all that likeable, the world didn't make sense, and I don't really care about anyone, let alone who lives or dies.

    Plenty of others appear to like this, so I recommend grabbing a sample to read before committing to buying.
