It’s not you. It’s me.
No, seriously. It is me. Not only does my name literally mean “unfortunate,” but that’s the story of my life.
Everything I touch turns to crap. An apartment fire—that I swear I was not responsible for—means I’m living back at home with my sex-mad parents. Yay, me!
Which is why I need my new job as personal assistant to Cameron Reid to get back on my feet. Three months in this job and I can move back out and, hopefully, remember to turn off my flat iron once in a while.
Ahem.
On paper, my job is easy. Make coffee. Book appointments. Keep everything in order.
Until I walk in on my boss, half-naked, wearing nothing but the kind of tiny white towel that dreams are made of.
Now, nothing is easy—except our mutual attraction. But he’s my boss, and you know what they say about mixing work and pleasure: unless you do p*rn, it’s just not worth it.
Or is it?

About the author

New York Times & USA Today bestselling author, Emma Hart, has written more than seventy romance novels in the last decade. She loves writing snarky, swoony romcoms with a side of chaos, occasionally venturing into romantic mysteries. Which are exactly the same as her romcoms, just with a dead body or two. That’s the reason for her questionable Internet history—at least that’s the story she’s sticking to.
She lives on a smallholding in North Wales with her husband and their two children, a clowder of very fluffy cats, one giant German Shepherd, and an undisclosed number of chickens and ducks. Don’t ask her to count them. She will not, thank you very much.
When she’s not writing or chasing ducks in her pyjamas, you can find her creating cosy gaming content for her Youtube channel and live streaming on Twitch.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2020This was exactly the book that I needed this week! It has been so stressful and I needed to laugh so freaking hard that I cried!! This book had characters that were opinionated, weird, unique, sweet and rich with a heart. I could relate so much to Mallory. I have done some of things she's done, mostly the falling and dumping things on me. I'm a klutz and proud of it lol. She is a straight up honest and feisty character. She knows what she is and owns it. The only thing she probably don't own is her crazy wacky relatives who are staying with her parents. There's a lot of alcohol flowing in this book and before you say that's not cool, it was definitely needed. These relatives just said whatever was on their minds and didn't care what you thought of it. Mallory got time away from them and that was with her job. Working for Cameron Reid was interesting to say the least. She had to hide her attraction for him and simply do her job. She actually surprised me and did really well on it despite spilling coffee a lot and tripping on the stairs. I liked how we got her and Cameron's point of views and got to spend time getting to know their families. These two are very low key and sweet together. They know to have fun and laugh. Mallory has bite and she isn't afraid to use it. I loved every minute of this book and will definitely be reading it again and again!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2024Mallory is a walking disaster and Cameron is a rich, sexy bachelor who just so happens to be Mallory’s new boss.
I loved the banter between Mallory and Cameron! I found Mallory’s character and her clumsiness to be very relatable. I liked how Cameron finds her clumsiness adorable and didn’t reprimand her about it. I enjoyed this slow burn romance, the plot, characters and banter!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2019I absolutely loved this book, as well as the main characters Mallory and Cameron. The book has a great RomCom storyline that made me laugh out loud and get funny looks from my family 😏, especially from Mallory’s great aunt and her grandpa’s arguments those two were hilarious. One click now and enjoy this amazing Emma Hart read, you will not be disappointed; I couldn’t put the book down untilI finished it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2019So I'll start by saying this book was good. This concept and plot were good I could have done without the grammar errors for the price of the book. That being said I loved Mal, she was quirky and fun and she owned it. Cameron was Great as well. The book did feel kinda rushed after about half way through. The first half was flirting and a will they wont they type of office romance but once you got to a certain point it felt rushed like not enough was put into the relationship itself and kinda just jumped from them not being together to a HFN ending. So besides that and the spelling and grammar all in all it was an ok read.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2019There's basically zero conflict, except that (as it says in the selling blurb) Mallory was uncomfortable with the idea of dating her boss. So what you get is a cute story with the major plot line being "flirting until you finally hook up".
Heck, I read a copy for free, but ending up buying it because I want to support Emma Hart, since I have a feeling she's going to become one of my "must read" authors.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2019Emma Hart has a way of writing romantic comedy like no one else. Catastrophe Queen lives up to it's title as Mallory is a walking, talking catastrophe in everything she does, and you can't help but fall in love with her, and root for her throughout this book. When we first meet Mallory she's down on her luck, living with her parents, and trying to get a job, all while her crazy relatives are about to come in for a visit and make her life even more crazy then it already is. After a job interview that she thinks went well, she ends up almost being hit by a car and and embarrassing herself in front of a gorgeous man, thank goodness she'll never have to see him again, right? Wrong! He's her new boss. Cameron when he sees Mallory knows he has seen her before but can't put his finger on it, until his cousin, and ex-assistant let's him know it was the girl he almost ran over. The two of them have some awkward and hilarious times together learning to work with one another, but around all of that, there's this attraction that neither one of them can seem to deny.I loved watching how the two of them seemed to hide their attraction to one another, and how they would talk to each other. Their banter was hilarious, and how Cameron found Mallory's clumsiness endearing rather than annoying. He laughed with her when she got flustered and he helped her when she would trip and fall and have her mishaps. Everything about these two was hilarious and sweet at the same time, and if you throw in both of their crazy families it's one heck of a story. These two definitely took a while to get to where they needed to be, but it was a good story to get there. I could definitely understand both of their hesitation, and their worry about starting an office romance with him being Mallory's boss, and I loved the demands Mallory put on him when agreeing to finally date him. This book was a quick read, and definitely had me laughing out loud throughout it. Between Mallory's aunt and grandpa, and Cameron's mom, the secondary characters were amazing additions to this story on top of Mallory and Cameron. If you're needing a book that will make you laugh and have you swooning, I suggest picking up Catastrophe Queen by Emma Hart today!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Fun Read......
Every time I pick up Emma Hart’s books I know for a fact that I’m just going to love them, she has a unique way of telling stories and honestly I can never get enough of her humor. Yet again, she pulled it out of the bag and delivered another incredible read, plus this one felt a lot more realistic due to how clumsy Mallory could be… I think that Emma read hit everything she could to make this book perfection. I honestly enjoyed reading it and thought Mallory was hilarious, plus her humor and wit was pretty incredible, Emma had me laughing throughout the book with half of the events that happened. I honestly couldn’t fault this book, although I wish there was more. Emma really knows how to get a girl hooked on her books, and that’s exactly what I am. I am looking forward to catching up on all of her other books she’s written and I’m excited to see what else she can cook up because honestly Emma is one talented writer and I know that if she keeps going the way she is, she will only keep doing well. I would highly recommend that if you’ve not read any of Emma’s books that you do as she knows how to pick your mood right back up if you’re not having a good day or are just looking for a book to make you laugh.
Mallory is currently living with her parents, looking for a new job and just about surviving. You’d think that her being back with her parents that they would love it that their child is back home in the nest….. Well, that would be a normal family… However, Mallory’s is a completely different lot altogether. You wouldn’t exactly call a family normal if you’ve got to put an alarm on the Alexia 10 minutes before you get back just so that your parents have enough time to get fully clothed because the last thing you want to see is them having sex….. Well, that’s one of the reasons that Mallory is so anxious to get out of there…. Mallory accidently set a fire at her old place, so she had to move back in with her parents and she lost her job due to the company closing down. But with so many interviews currently not going in her favour, she’s hoping to secure this current one she’s interviewed for, however noticing that you’ve gotten a pair of panties stuck to your trousers part way through isn’t exactly a good impression to leave…. But shockingly for her, she ends up getting the job, the only problem she has is that her boss looks vaguely familiar and she’s hoping that he doesn’t remember her considering he did almost run her over. Will Mallory be able to keep the job considering she’s a walking disaster and will her new boss recognise her?

5.0 out of 5 stars I mean.. Can Emma Hart do any wrong?
"In my not-so-humble and far-too-frequently-expressed opinion, I was a twenty-five-year-old grandma without the burden of grandchildren, and I was totally okay with that."
Another perfect rom-com written by Emma Hart. In my books (heh), she's the best rom-com author out there. But that's just my opinion. She's my go-to author for relatable walking disasters, eccentric families, humour and sweet romances. I really identified with Mallory, more than a lot of her previous protagonists, though I'm not sure that's a good thing (the relating to a character nicknamed 'Catastrophe Queen' and 'Hurricane Mallory' not the not identifying with previous protags). I thought the romance was sweet in this and although the entire book takes place in less than a month (excluding the epilogue) it felt like everything was perfectly paced and nothing about the relationship felt rushed. I did think it was strange that we never heard about any of Cameron's friends given we had some of his POV's but I can live with (or should I say without) that, and weirdly I enjoyed reading scenes with his mother?
I'd love to read Jade's story in the future!
I can't wait to own a physical copy of this book too, it's so pretty and bright!

1.0 out of 5 stars Absoluteley predictable and boring
I was really looking forward to a fun read.. but i must say that i didnt think it was very funny or well written. Mostly it was just over the top. A bit too much of everything apart from substance.

4.0 out of 5 stars *4 Stars*
This was a nice and fluffy fun read from Emma Hart. I'm not always sure how I feel about office romance, but this was done nicely. I really liked the banter between the two main characters, and they easily fell into a comfortable rhythm with each other.
There is angst or drama, this is just a really nice and easy read, and lots of fun. Some interesting secondary characters as well. Emma Hart has a way of writing books that are a breeze to read and leave you wanting to know the characters from the pages.
