Welcome to Jubilee Springs
This town of friendly folks in the Arkansas Valley of central Colorado sprang up right after silver was discovered in the nearby hills a decade or so ago. The western horizon is filled with vistas of the Rocky Mountains. Mount Shavano at 14,000 feet in elevation towers over other peaks. In the spring, melting snows reveal a shape that some call “The Angel of Shavano.” If looking south, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains can be seen. The Arkansas River that runs through the valley provides plenty of irrigation for ranching and crops.
About three years ago, brothers Clive and Royce Bainbridge took ownership of the Prosperity Mine where silver is mined using labor-intensive methods. Raised by a father who owned a coal mine in England, they know the value of a loyal employee. When grumblings about Jubilee Springs not having enough women were heard, the Bainbridges took action and contacted the Colorado Bridal Agency in Denver.
The brothers have built three-room row cabins which are available to the first ten men who marry. Arrangements have been made for Missus Lizett Millard to bring brides to the mining town for the Fourth of July weekend in 1881. Community events are planned to provide opportunities for the women and miners to get acquainted. Hopefully, each bride will make a selection and the lucky couples will marry on Monday, July 4th.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2021I don't like the thought that choosing between an animal & a person could be so difficult. I love the writing! This author continues to surround me with the sights & sounds of the old west & all the nuances that go with it. I learn a lot about the realities & hardships of the time period while reading her captivating stories.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2020Catherine loved her cat, who she had raised from a tiny kitten. When her aunt died, she faced homelessness when her cousin wanted to sell the house his mother lived in. Catherine needed to find a new home. A mine owner offered to build homes for miners to live in--if they would marry. He hired a mail order bride agency to match mine workers with women.
Catherine, needing a new home, offered to be a bride. But Catherine had a kitten and her husband-to-be was very allergic to cats. He offered to call off the marriage ceremony, but Catherine found a new home for the kitten. Just in time, they were able to marry and claim their new home.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2021Feeling lonely and alone, the main character finds an abandoned kitten by her door. Vowing never to make the kitten feel abandoned again she cares fir her and even sneaks her onto the train! But when she gets to meet the man she hopes to marry he’s allergic,… to her? She’ll find out she’ll have to break the bond she made to begin a lifetime with another bond that was forming.
There is no sexual references or language so I can recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a good story. ( there are minor suggestions like brothel, and waiting to consummate the marriage., etc so if an advanced reading young teen may not understand what those words are.)
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2020I loved this sweet story of Cat and Harold. This book held many interesting characters who I grew fond of. I enjoyed all the ups and downs of their romance story, hoping it would turn into a HEA. I always enjoy reading books by Zina Abbott and I will be reading more of her books. JudyE
- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2018Catherine is on her way to become the mail order
bride of Harold, but a huge problem comes up!
What could stop them from getting married?

Book and read or listen to it yourself to find out!
It is an amazing story and I just know you will
Find it just as interesting as I have.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2021In this light C.F. Book set in 1881, we meet a gal who travels from Kansas to Colorado - with her best friends - one human, the other a cat. Will the mail-order brides find their future hubbies in Jubilee Springs?
It was sad to see Catherine forced out of her home, but kitty paws appear when least expected ....
But will the promise Catherine made to little Sunny be kept?
And what will Harold think when he meets "the gal of his dreams" in real life?
Friendship, love, and community come together.
Since this was my first trip to Jubilee Springs, I'm happy to say that I look forward to reading other books in this series!
