Rio and Caden have been together for a few years now. It’s a rare weekend they get to spend alone. When Rio suggests they get away to Tahoe for the weekend a few weeks before Christmas, Caden is too excited to even think of saying no. They start their trip and even though they think they’ve planned for every emergency, they can’t control what Mother Nature has in store for them. BL Maxwell grew up in a small town listening to her grandfather spin tales about his childhood. Later she became an avid reader and after a certain vampire series she became obsessed with fanfiction. She soon discovered Slash fanfiction and later discovered the MM genre and was hooked.

Many years later, she decided to take the plunge and write down some of the stories that seem to run through her head late at night when she’s trying to sleep.

    This five-star rated short story about Rios and Caden and their small family is fantastic! Cafe's family disapproved of him being gay and dropped him off in the middle of nowhere and told him to never return home! Rios found him and took him home with him. Their love story is amazingly believable! I highly recommend this short story.

    A short and sweet follow-up to Better Together. Rio and Caden take a much-needed vacation to Tahoe, and along the way encounter a few more surprises! Overall, Chains Required is a heartwarming read.

    Chains Required by BL Maxwell is a short novella from the Better Together series. The characters were introduced in w previous book, Bwtter Togwther, but its possible to read as a stand alone.

    The main characters, Rio and Caden, have been in a relationship for a few years now and it's been s wonderful life with their small family. They are on a rare weekend trip away from the kids and there are many surprises in store for them.

    Oh what a wonderful holiday tale. I love these guys. They are perfect together. The story is short and sweet. If you read the first book, it's a great follow up on Rio and Caden. If you haven't, you will want to go back to their beginning and see it all happen after reading about them now.

    I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

    My overall response to this story is that's it's nothing special. I kept wondering when I would feel a spark, and I never did. Rio and Caden are very young but their relationship is already established when we meet them here. They go away for a weekend and Caden discovers that not everyone in his family has abandoned him as he had thought. They spend the next two nights and days enjoying time alone away from Rio's younger siblings whom they are raising together.

    Although we get enough backstory to know how they met originally, there's nothing in this story to make me care about them. I don't know them any more three-dimensionally at the end than I do at the beginning, and frankly, I couldn't care less. They don't engage me. Everything that they do together throughout the story, from dinner on the first night to the surprise gift at the end, leaves me unmoved. And to be honest, I'm not even sure what the writer could do to make me care about them more. Not even the sex scenes engage my interest...'meh' best describes my reaction to them, sadly.

    So the rating is my effort at a compromise...I can't say that the story is awful, which would make it a 1-star effort, but it's not stellar, either. It's just ordinary.

    This is a sweet, fast-paced story. The story quickly grabbed my attention and the characters kept me turning the pages. The characters are endearing and I enjoyed following along on their adventure.

    I really enjoyed reading about Rio and Caden on their getaway to the mountains. The love between them is so strong and the author painted such a picture of where they were that it felt like you were there. Got me in the Christmas spirit. Recommended!
