- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2020This was both a great material for the main person (Lisa) AND for us as well while we search for the 'right' job for ourselves in the process of finding it.
The first chapter begins in everyone's worst feeling: "Being fired or released from their job"... as in Lisa's case. However, her manager assisted her with a helpful tip: "To contact a job coach that can help her further her career. I felt just like Lisa here. A job coach can cost both money and will it be worth the time?
In the second chapter, Lisa does something so relatable to our own lives when searching for a job: Placing in many job applications to different jobs where, in the end, there's rarely a response or reply back. She received an interesting e-mail from a coach that brings up "The Three Circles". The what? Yeah I was just confused as Lisa was too here.
As for the third chapter, well... there are times when it is called for us to take a step and see what will happen next. No action can be taken or done without us taking the first step that can make a change in your life.
What I enjoyed about this book were the many tips that I also needed in my life as well, the same notes Lisa has taken from her coach. What I did not like was the million questions Lisa asked her coach. I mean, no offense, I would've asked a few of her questions, but the questions drove me off a bit, despite the fact that both her and her coach's conversation grew deeper and deeper. Sorry. I don't want to spoil anything within this book for anyone, but it is a great read!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2020If you're looking for a job, you need to get this book. It is filled with so much helpful information! The tips on resume building alone, are worth it! If you're sending out resume after resume and not getting responses, trust me...after you read this and apply the suggestions, your phone WILL start ringing! So many simple things to do; slight word variations that can make all the difference in whether or not you get that call for the interview. As someone who has been out of the job market for over 20 years, this book has been invaluable for me. I will read it again and again; I've got the kindle version and have bookmarks and highlights throughout. This is NOT your typical career coaching book. Instead, the author gives you all the great information via way of a fictional story...and the story was fascinating and kept my attention. Not only were the resume tips helpful, but these other topics were covered in great detail: unknown job search ideas and finding hidden jobs; how to network effectively; tips on how to handle interviews; how to negotiate for your highest salary; the importance of following up, etc., etc. Scripts, methods and a lot of tools were shared by the author to make your job search successful! Definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for a job.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2020I know, I know- it seems like another self-help book for job-seekers. Stores always have entire bookcases of them, and yet not a single one can do more than offer inflated and often useless hope. A great emotion, but not one that will fill your refrigerator or surprise your family with a trip to the beach.
This book is different. Instead of flowery language that makes you feel good, Zaouali teaches you how to change your mindset and your approach to job searching. He gives templates for resumes, cover letters, and more, as well as how to find the exact job you’re looking for even if it’s not on one of the major search sites. With the plan Zaouali lays out, anyone can use the information to find a better job, no matter how tough the job market seems.
If you’re like me and were laid off thanks to Covid, please, please, get this book. It will help you get through the application, interview, and salary negotiation processes in the most efficient way possible. The only way is up!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2020The Job Seeker & The Coach, is a self-help guide presented in the creative format of fiction. Inspired by true events, the reader follows the main character, Lisa, with her struggle of trying to obtain employment within a very short time period in Dubai or become homeless. She finds herself taking lessons from a job coach and learning more about herself in the process. Lisa's journey is captivating and engaging throughout the text. I found myself wondering what would happen next each time I had to pause my reading. This book is full of distinctive, detailed examples with step-by-step instructions and visuals that connect the reader to a deeper level of awareness. The insights provided in this book are ones that I have never heard of and make it stand out from any other book on the market. This is a must read!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2020All I can say is "WOW!" This book is incredibly helpful and very practical. I am a Life Coach who works primarily with young adults as they navigate high school, college, and the beginning of their career. This will be a book and resource I will DEFINITELY use and encourage my clients to get. Whether you are just beginning your career, thinking about a job change or help people in the career world--get a copy of this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2019This is bar none the best job search book I've ever read. It contains tips, tricks, scripts, and formulas that I wish I'd known at the beginning of my professional life.
Used properly, this book will overcome the most common and severe job search obstacles, including periods of prolonged unemployment and gender socialization differences that may otherwise affect salary negotiation tactics.
I've already bought two copies for friends of mine who are new to the job market or who are looking to get back into it after some time away.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY INTERESTING BOOK
I decided to order this book, which I received, for different reasons.
I am myself in the HR sector and I wanted to see by curiosity that offers Hamza about the different techniques and alternatives in a job search.
I also wanted to evaluate my understanding of the English language because the whole book is English.
Thus, I find that the book is easy to read, the more you read more you want to read .. it explains the steps to follow in the job search, tools and methods often, poorly known, and to adopt seriously!!
I have not finished reading it yet.
For all those who find themselves in a professional stalemate, which raises questions or just out of curiosity .. I really advise to buy it because everything is well explained to rebound professionally.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most useful guide about job search !
Priceless tips and advice, that could benefit freshly graduated students as well as senior executives, as none of what you could find here is taught at school or during any career path…Don’t expect to find in here how to write a cover letter…This book is about how to find a job in the most effective way, in a modern digitalized – yet broken – job market with (most) employers barely bothering replying to job seekers…not only will it give you all the tools, from application to salary negotiation, but a full rounded method to master the whole job recruitment process and to draw CAREER CHOICES for yourself rather than making DEFAULT CHOICES … Resolutely game-changing, narrated through an entertaining and fairly human story, this book is a MUST READ for any professional, conscious of his/her personal branding, regardless of his/her current employment situation…

A brilliant book for anyone who is looking for a job. The book is written in a story format, in which all the methodologies to be followed at every stage of the process are covered clearly. The book tackles all aspects of the process, including the emotional stress the job seeker is bound to go through. By the end of it, you are confident you have the realistic recipe for success! Highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A different approach to job seeking
The job seeker and the coach: How to rescue and fast rack your job search, by Hama Zaouchi, is an extremely unique idea, one unlike any self-help/improvement book I have ever encountered. It serves as a manual for job seekers that are trying to find new employment using self-motivating techniques and ideas rather than the usual steps offered by job coaches. The difference here comes from how it is written.
Rather than relaying facts in lists and justifications, they take form in a prosaic novella, the story of which focuses on the character of Lisa and the steps that she takes to find a new job after recently being fired. It is a strange approach, one that immediately garners the reader’s attention. But is it successful?
The format of following Lisa through her story is, first and foremost, genius. It allows the author to sow empathy with the reader, therefore a job seeker is able to see themselves in the protagonist. You get a real sense of the desperation that she feels whilst experiencing unemployment and is extremely relevant, a side of the subject matter that is rarely focused upon. There were many moments in which I was able to relate far too much, a testament to Hamza’s story telling ability.
The ongoing narrative is also a helpful tool that allows the reader to stay interested in the material. Bland statements or easy to retrieve steps are rife in the self-help genre and this format can get tedious. A story such as this can really carry a reader through, absorb them in such a way that the educational elements are discretely hidden. There are diagrams, of course, but they are inserted into moments where Lisa would encounter them.
It transforms the book into a legitimate journey rather than the work of a non-fiction writer that will eventually run out of theories to indulge in.
All in all, the optimal goal is for the reader to see Lisa eventually end up employed once again using the method specified by the author in the text.
However, the prose angle is not all that it could be.
Self-help books are non-fiction, highly focused and carefully formatted materials. They are designed in this way to adhere to how the human brain comprehends and processes new concepts or information.
There is a sense that the author is aware of this as some of this information is inserted clumsily into the story. A very early example of this is when Lisa’s original boss decides to promote the ‘three circles of the job search formula’ promptly after firing her from his company. This is an odd moment of exposition, one that is repeated frequently throughout the book and pulls you out of the story in the same way that forcefully prepared expository dumps do in regular fiction. It makes the prose angle less seamless, breaks the illusion of difference to regular self-help materials.
The main problem that this presents is that, whilst Lisa’s story is based on her journey, the reader is still following a character in a book. Her experiences, as familiar as they may be, are Lisa’s and exist within the story. To the human brain stories are mostly fictional. Even those based on true events are embellished to show certain aspects of characters or events in a certain light. Therefore, can we trust the protagonist? If her experiences aren’t valid then how can the theory be? The skills might not be considered transferable in a real life context, something that a self-help book needs to utilise above all else.
What is really important here, though, is the theory presented. The books main focus is to help job seekers to find a job. The way in which it tries to achieve this is by explaining how you must change the way you think about employment. There are three main areas that it highlights; marketing, selling and serving, otherwise known as the three circles of the job search formula. In other words: You must market and sell yourself into the position that you want. It’s a great idea and is explained extremely well and provides answers to many of the obvious questions one might have about this process, from confidence issues to finding the right career for you. The authors accomplished career in employment and headhunting really validates her theories, gives her a credence and passionate viewpoint. You can really tell that she knows and strongly believes in her methodology.
Alongside this there are the usual job seeking tips such as how to write a successful resume and how to craft your LinkedIn profile. These are all explained within the framework of the three circles of marketing, selling and serving and is detailed in expert fashion. With Lisa’s story serving as the perfect example of how to utilise these correctly, it is clear to see how this process would be successful.
This highly unique endeavour may be clunky at times but there is no denying that this is a highly bold, creative and rewarding piece of work. Not only by formatting standards but in theory. I can see how this would reach a job seeker on an entirely new level and I would personally be happy if this the way the self-help genre begins to shift.
