I've gotta say... this was nothing like I expected it to be, but everything I could've wanted. Something about that cover had me believing that this would be a heavier, more emotional read, but it is anything but. This sweet and tender (though still plenty sexy) romance has a lightness about it that pairs well with the doses of humor mixed in. Our hero is something of a lovable idiot - or at least he starts that way - who doesn't know what hit him when he's struck by the love bug. It's an entertaining, truly unique read with a relationship that has an incredible amount of depth.

The story follows Liam, an actor who doesn't mind letting others take care of him. He's unashamed of the fact that he enjoys being pampered, so when he finds himself without a maid, he can't wait to hire a replacement. Little does Liam know that his new live-in maid will have a huge impact on his life, quickly becoming a friend and confidant, then ultimately something more.

This caught me off-guard in the best of ways, with a hero who is not the norm, a heroine who is his perfect complement, and a relationship that progresses at its own pace. If I have one complaint about the book, it would be the pacing, but perhaps that's just because I've become accustomed to things happening in a certain order within a romance novel. I was engaged in and interested by the story every step of the way, never quite knowing what would happen next, but definitely wanting to find out. Liam is such a lovable hero, and the depth of his feelings for Shelby were so, so swoonworthy. Yes, this has plenty of steamy scenes, but it's got so much heart as well. That's what really makes the book; it will make you smile, make you laugh, warm your heart, and hit you with just a little heartache. I received an ARC via Candi Kane PR (then purchased it for my collection) and am voluntarily leaving a review of this sweet yet sexy romance.

This boom is an absolute favorite of mines that I've read many times, but according to the system I missed leagues review. That will never do!

This stand alone book by my favorite author is a wonderful rom-com that tells the story of Liam Wright, a list actor and a adorkable Brit, who is not at all suave and sophisticated. He is, actually, pretty clueless. After an incident (a very funny one) causes him to fire his housekeeper, funds him in need of a new one. After a very unique interview, enters Shelby, the sister of his business manager and close friend.

Shelby who is starting over after her husband steals everything, and leaves her in debt, needs a fresh start as well. She becomes everything that Liam needs! His housekeeper, his best friend, his companion. And just like that, Oscar and Beaker become inseparable, incomparable, incredible, and in love.

Through his love of pickles and her love of kilts and OJ ( lots of hand squeezed OJ) Liam becomes the man that Shelby needs, which results in them "Changing Role" and him taking care of her instead of being TBE one who needs her taking care of him. The adorkable Liam was hot, but the take charge Liam is sizzling!!!

Read this wonderful love story filled with laughter, love, and mood music. Did I mention pickles, kilts and OJ? You will love it as much as I do, and want to come back again and again. I'm sure of it!

I heard a lot of good things about the writer Melanie Moreland’s books so when I came across this story I decided to read it and I’m so glad that I did because I really enjoyed it!! ‘Changing roles’ was a light and funny story and some scenes with the main man character Liam really had me smiling and laughing (even now, days later I’m still smiling when I think of him). This story was just what I was looking for.

This story is about Liam Wright, a 28 year old famous Hollywood actor. He’s popular with the women for his good looks, his British accent and his boyish charm. And although he’s a very good actor, he’s not very good at organizing his own ‘real’ life. Luckily he has his manager Everett and his housekeeper Shelby to help him with that. Shelby doesn’t only manage his house and make him his favorite turkey sandwich and bake him muffins but she also helps him with his anxiety for large crowds. She keeps him calm and she knows the real man hiding under his actor character. Liam trusts her completely and considers her his best friend.
Shelby loves taking care of other people. So when she lost her job six months ago and her husband disappeared with all her money, she called her younger brother Everett for help. Shelby never expected that she would find a new job and home with one of his famous clients. And Liam may be unmature at times but he’s also honest, friendly and has a good heart. Shelby loves working for him.
But then a few minor events causes Liam to look at Shelby with new eyes and it makes him realize he wants more with her. Now Liam will have to prove to Shelby, their friends and the world that he can be the guy that she needs. Or will his crazy life and the pressure of Hollywood be too much for Shelby? Only time will tell.

The story was told mostly from Liam’s POV but we also got a few scenes with Shelby’s POV in it. I really liked it that we got to see Liam’s thoughts and feelings. It made me understand him better and that helped, because at the beginning I wasn’t sure if I would fall for his character. My last few reads all had alpha, dominant guys in it, so Liam’s character was a big adjustment because he may be a lot of things but alpha and dominant he was not. He didn’t like confrontation and he rather let other people take care of things. But the more I got to know him, the more I felt for his kind heart, his honesty and his boyish, innocent charms. And the fact that he matured during the story and became the man that Shelby could lean on and count on, really helped too!!! (But don’t worry he doesn’t change too much, he will be always a bit special, unique!).
I loved Shelby’s character from the beginning, she was very caring but she could also be strict with Liam when necessary. Liam and Shelby were perfect together, she made him stronger and he showed her how to have fun and enjoy life. And after everything that happened to her, Shelby deserved a bit of fun in her life. She was five years older than Liam and worried about that but for Liam that never was an issue. He loved her kind heart and her soul.
There were a few sex scenes in the story and some emotional scenes too. We also got to see their future and I really loved that!!

The secondary characters in this story were wonderful, you had Liam’s manager who was also Shelby’s younger brother. Liam’s mother and cousin, both were interesting characters in their own way and there were a few others. They all were there when Liam and Shelby needed them. I really liked the love and friendship between them all. They were very loyal and supportive.

‘Changing roles’ was a great, funny book. One that I’m sure that I will reread in the future.

(If you liked this story and are looking for similar stories with the same kind of British humor and accent, try the ‘Gym or chocolate’ series by Jane Harvey-Berrick and Stuart Reardon.)

If you want to get away from Angst and blood and heartache. I really recommend this! Younger man, older woman romance. Tender loving moments throughout. Some hiccups along the way. But I LOVE the growth of the characters and how they stick by each other. Holding each other up... this has some serious “sigh” moments for me... 💕💕💕

    Melanie Moreland never disappoints.....

Changing Roles was a fab friends-to-lovers story that was packed with humour, heat, heart and just a little angst.

I adored Liam and his realisation about how he felt about Shelby had him changing steadily but quietly. The character is British and I thought for a Canadian author Melanie did a great job on his language and humour, it’s not often that a non-Brit captures the essence and peculiarities of such a character!

Shelby was awesome. After the end of a marriage gone wrong she ends up in LA with the help of her family. From the minute she meets Liam they hit it off and they soon become great friends who have a wonderful relationship... until things start to change for both of them.

I got Shelby’s apprehension about her age and what people would say about her but I loved how Liam thought about her and his lack of concern for others opinions. They were a perfect pair and balanced each other so well.

A great supporting cast of characters, fantastic banter and nicknames between the MCs and some incidents, that sadly are not fiction in real life for some, all added up to a 5* read for me and one that I would happily recommend.
