Review
This is of the most authentic stories I've ever read about the devastating grief and guilt, and how to find the strength to go on living, after being through the worst thing that can happen to a parent; losing your child. -- Annie's ReadingTips
It was one of the most stunning books I've ever read. And I could feel every emotion deep inside my heart. It was breathtaking. -- Goodreads Reviewer
There's guilt and grief. There's pain, depression, and PTSD. But there's also trust and love. It's a powerful reminder that one can survive anything. - Amy's MM RomanceReviews
As with all GM books it ebbs and flows like a river over pebbles; the pace is just perfect and I read it in one sitting as I just couldn't put it down. - Reading to Stay Awake
It happens organically, over months of friendship, attraction and eventually love. it was soft, dreamy and natural. - Goodreads Reviewer
This is a book that I will be thinking about for sometime to come. - Xtreme-Delusions

About the author

Gwen Martin is from Florida where the sun was always shining, and the humidity is always high. In 2020 she and her partner moved to Knoxville for a change of scenery with their five cats, and a whole lot of dreams.
Writing came to her at a young age, where she scribbled stories instead of paying attention to math lessons. She spent many years in fandom, exploring her writing opportunities before deciding to take the dive into self-publishing.
Gwen has a strong love affair with cold brew coffee, black cats, and nerding out in a variety of fandoms. When she’s not writing, she’s reading everything she can get her hands on, crocheting compulsively while listening horror gamer playthroughs, and vibing to spotify playlists for inspiration. And best of all, loving the best creatures on earth—her harem of gatos.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2021Sean moves to smaller town to get away from memories that are making it hard to move forward. He meets Jonah who is gay and runs the local diner. They become friends. It’s very well written. You will love the characters. I really enjoyed it!! This is an age gap - first time gay story. I won’t spoil it but it’s a beautiful story.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2021This book hits home for me through both the main characters. Losing a child and not wanting to let anyone in or close to you for fear of feeling the pain again. Sean has recently gone through a divorce from his wife, after their daughter was stillborn. He moved to a new town where he meets Jonah, a diner owner. Jonah took over the diner when his father fell sick with cancer. Jonah hasn't had a relationship in a long time. Sean is just getting over one and feeling guilty for having feelings for Jonah.
This is a good story that slowly brings Jonah and Sean together. They have much in common and get along so well. Sean just has a lot he is going through that makes it rough on them.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2021My former profession required me to consider multiple audiences when I chose to buy books... No more. Now, I’m selfish and choose each read because “I” want to read it. This book drew me to itself when I first read the description, knowing my emotions would be challenged... and they were. Life is complex in so many ways, and Gwen shared and captured the struggle and emotions of part of life we would all prefer to avoid. Yet, it’s better to experience these vicariously, so we are better prepared if or when we meet them in reality. Thank you.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2021Love the characters and I love the storyline. I bet this book will help other people that go through something like this. First time I read a book of yours and loved it so much I will buy it so I can read it again. I am sorry for your loss. I highly recommend this book to read.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2024This is angsty with an underlying sweetness that lingers. Sean has had unimaginable loss take over his life. Jonah has buried his grief. They find an unlikely connection. There is plenty of hurt and comfort in this book. Sean doesn't always make the best choices regarding how he treats Jonah and what he discloses. Their connection is palpable; while it is a hard road, it is a love well won. Definitely recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2024This is a very emotional read that wasn't always easy to read because there are a lot of raw feelings, intense emotions and heaviness and pain. Alongside this there is humor and hope, so while your heart gets mightily worked over along the way the end result is worth it.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2024Wow! Gwen Martin is a must read for me. I discovered her books about 1 year ago and each book that I’ve read blows me away. Chasing Hope deals with grief and loss and she doesn’t hesitate to tackle these issues. Sean and Jonah broke my heart and I’m so glad they found each other even though it wasn’t under the greatest circumstances. Sean was heartbroken from losing his baby daughter and then his marriage. Jonah was grieving the loss of his father who was his only parent. I love that Gwen ‘goes there’ with her stories, she doesn’t back down from the reality of loss and grief. I cannot imagine how she felt writing this story knowing that something similar happened to her IRL. This story resonated with me even though it broke my heart a few times. Sean and Jonah will remain with me for a long time.
