YOU WON’T WANT TO PUT THIS DOWN, PAGE AFTER PAGE OF ACTION AND CLIFFHANGERS . . .

4 a.m. on the outskirts of London
A police squad descend swiftly on a house, eager to exploit the rare opportunity of catching a burglar in the act.

Nothing could have prepared them for what they find.

From inside a room on the ground floor, comes the eerie sound of a woman singing,
‘the childmaker . . . the childmaker . . . beware the childmaker’.

Four officers break down the door to enter a darkened room. Their flashlights illuminate the body of a man with a knife in his chest and a bloody mess where his face should be.

Nearby, stands a small, thin woman. In her hand is a kitchen knife . . .

By the time,
Detectives Ray Paterson and Johnny Clocks arrive at the scene, there is carnage.

But what is bricked up behind the wall is far, far worse.

A RACE-AGAINST-TIME THRILLER WHICH WILL HAVE YOU TOTALLY ADDICTED.

This is the sixth in a series of action-packed,
edge-of-your-seat crime thrillers, with an ending that will have your heart in your mouth.

THE DETECTIVES
Detective Superintendent Ray Paterson is a young and (thanks to family money) wealthy womaniser, separated from his model wife and tipped to be the youngest ever commissioner of police. He knows he’s weak when it comes to practical policing and struggles to find a place among his peers, desperate to be a good policeman and not just a 'climber'.

Detective Inspector Johnny Clocks is a foul-mouthed, working-class officer. He grew up surrounded by rogues and villains to become a first-class thief taker with the Met police. However, his childish attitude has short-circuited his career and he spends his days antagonising as many people as he can.

THE AUTHOR
Steve Parker is a retired police officer who served for 20 years in numerous high-profiles squads.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Steve Parker was born and raised in south east London (Camberwell and Peckham). At age twenty-one he joined the Metropolitan Police where he served for twenty years in numerous high profile squads before being pensioned out with a serious back injury.

Thankfully, he was blessed with a complete lack of DIY skills so was legitimately able to get away with swanning around the house doing bugger all, all day long. Finding himself with plenty of spare time and a deep desire to never work for anyone again, he dug out an old screenplay he'd written when he was still a policeman and set himself a challenge to turn it into a book which eventually became his debut novel 'Their Last Words' introducing Detectives Paterson & Clocks.

Currently, there are ten books in the DETECTIVES PATERSON & CLOCKS series:

Book 1: THEIR LAST WORDS

Book 2: THE LOST CHILDREN

Book 3: THE BURNING MEN

Book 4: YOU CAN'T HIDE

Book 5: THEIR DYING BREATH

Book 6: CHILD BEHIND THE WALL

Book 7: HIS MOTHER'S BONES

Book 8: DEAD ON DELIVERY

Book 9: SLAUGHTERED AS THEY SLEPT

Book 10: THROWN UNDER THE BUS

DETECTIVES PATERSON & CLOCKS BOOKS 1–8 now available as a box set.

I read this book in one sitting. I even quit the book I was currently reading to start CBTW. It was totally worth it. Talk about an adrenaline ride! And the end? GRRRR!!!

And, fair warning: This book does contain gruesome crime scenes. Feel free to skim over them if you are squeamish. But, don't quit reading just because of the crime scenes. You'll miss out on such great characters and camaraderie.

Thank you, Mr. Parker's Pen, for writing such great characters. <3

I read all the series I did like reading it though I found it quite disturbing. I felt sorry for Ray Paterson whose life was altered so radically. The character of Clocks made me laugh out loud sometimes. Both characters were well defined and nicely written. I can't understand how a Police Force like the Met could have a petty, jealous and unintelligent man heading it. I hopefully await a next book. I want to know more about Lyndsey and Wallace Young and I have to know that Paterson and Clocks are not railroaded and blamed and I want to see the Andersob character put to shame.
Will there be a next book?

What a book. Looks ve these two detectives. You know in your mind that they can do everything and win, but you don't think about the cost to them personally. But this crime was so shocking it took my breath away. Shocking but a great story.

The two maverick British detectives are very, very different from any others I’ve encountered in recent oeuvres from British authors. The mysteries and homicides throughout the entire series are spectacular and graphic, the suspects amoral and/or insane - yet I can’t seem to put the books down. I wonder what ghat says about me!

Worthy read and you must continue to give your reader's more of Clocks and Paterson. Yes, the characters are hard core and the storyline tend to be bloody harsh. Cliffhanger ending . . . yet I am ready for number seven. So , make it worth the wait Steve Parker.

I’m not sure how I feel about this book. It kept me reading that’s for sure. Very terrifying as well. The 2 main characters have flawed personalities. They irk a lot of people in the police force. They did solve the case however. Worth reading to form your own opinion

What a great thriller. I hated for the book to end. It was so very good and I love the two main characters. The serious Paterson and the partner with his wise remarks. Just an absolutely gripping book.

The story concerned a totally depraved family the local law enforcement had to take into custody and the danger they were in as they attempted to do so. Simply the most unimaginable crime story I've ever read. Gut wrenching, nightmare causing tale.

Yet another Ray Paterson & Johnny Clocks book from Steve Parker, and this one was probably one of the best. Yes, it was extremely gory and terrifying in places, and no Johnny Clocks does not get any better (will he ever), and yes Ray Paterson is still as determined as ever to do things his way and manages to get away with it (eventually). However, this was a totally engrossing read which was impossible to put down, making me turn each page to find out what was going to happen next. The story of a killer who takes pleasure in skinning the victims and making objects out of their skin, the chase to try and find and catch him, the ongoing investigation into the killing of DCI Lambert from the previous book, and the hatred that the Chief Constable has for both Paterson and Clocks, make this a truly deep and engrossing novel.

As annoying as Johnny Clocks is, you must admire his sense of humour – which is obviously his coping mechanism for the often-horrendous job he has chosen. He and Ray work well together and there is certainly never a dull moment from those two. Sadly, we do lose a few characters in the race to catch the killer, and clearly there will be a long psychological recovery for all those involved. The ending was fast paced and quite disturbing in places, but we get there in the end and the conclusion is satisfying, if not a little upsetting. But at the very end there is a huge teaser as to the direction in which the next episode will be heading and this is a book that I am eagerly looking forward to.

This read was a brilliant way to end this dreadful year and I am so pleased I embarked on the journey.

This is the first book that I have read of this series and loved it so much I will now read all the others.
A great pairing if two unreal types of policemen. They want justice and will do what needs to be done to get it.
Clever characterisation of all involved in the storyline. Can't wait to read more of these books

Thank you Steve Parker for once again allowing us the reader into the most unique, twisted and delightful police procedural series i have yet to find. I love every minute I spend in the lives of Patterson and Clocks. You make it entertaining and light yet horrifically brutal all at once. I dont know if you are a seriously twisted man for thinking up these surreal plots or a genius i should thank for giving us the gentle souls of men who hunt them down. Whichever just keep them coming and quicker with the next episode please, I'm sure like all fans I cant wait for the next book.
