About the author

*Update* Christmas Island has now been proof-read and a new version has been uploaded and approved.
Natalie Normann writes cosy, contemporary romance novels set on a lovely, although windy, island on the West Coast of Norway. The island itself is fictional, and inspired by her own upbringing and culture, that sometimes seems to consist mostly of bad weather and delicious baked goods. (On the island the weather is always lovely. Mostly). She has written historical romance series, thrillers, children's books in Norwegian. Summer Island and Christmas Island are her first books in English. At the moment she's working on a new, exciting project and can't wait to share it with everyone.

Christmas Island is a good small town holiday romance

- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2024Christmas Island was delightful. It holds all that a reader would expect and a bit more.
Holly’s anxiety as she waits for news and Tor’s heartache from a recent breakup are palatable. Starting on the wrong foot, they form a friendship that turns into something more. Their journey as they learned to trust one another and themselves kept me reading well into the night.
The other hook was the vivid imagery. There was no need for Google as Natalie Normann outdid herself writing about this magnificent (though fictional) island. Between the scenery, customs, and, most importantly, the characters, I didn’t want the book to end.
Natalie Normann is a great author. However, there’s one problem. She hasn’t written enough books to keep up with my voracious reading appetite. When’s the next book coming out?
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2020Christmas Island is a lovely contemporary romance that proves that, even in the middle of a cold and dark winter, romance is alive. Set on an island off the coast of Norway, the story is immersive and rich in Nordic traditions and culture. I enjoyed learning more about how they celebrate the holidays and appreciated all the vivid imagery. The author really brought the island, the culture, and the holiday spirit to life. The food, in particular, is described in mouth-watering and vivid detail. I felt like I could smell the delicious pastries and cookies that were prepared and eaten throughout the story, and you can imagine how delighted I was to see some of the recipes at the end of the book!
Another great aspect of the novel is the characters. Holly is a funny and quirky protagonist who is a bit out of her element on this isolated island. Tor, the hunky hermit and Holly’s love interest, is the strong, silent, and brooding type. The slow-building romance between Holly and Tor is also wonderful. They complement each other well, and they have great chemistry. I like that, though both seemed to be hiding from their realities back home, they found each other on the island. Other characters, like the local teacher and business owners, as well as Tor’s cat, have fantastic personalities and highlight the charm of the island.
Another aspect of the story that I really liked was the way in which the author told Holly and Tor’s backstories. We know that they are both on the island because they are trying to get away, but it is unclear what they are getting away from. An incident at work has out Holly’s career in jeopardy, and it appears that Tor is still healing from a romantic wound. Their stories slowly unfold as they get to know each other, which I enjoyed. Slowly revealing their lives created well-developed characters and an interesting story.
A great contemporary romance set on a secluded Norwegian island, Christmas Island is sure to get you in the holiday spirit! Thanks so much to One More Chapter and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2024What a joy it would be to visit Norway at Christmas time and enjoy the food, the scenery, activities and maybe fall in love with the guy. Cozy, cozy read that made me want to go visit.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2024Light & enjoyable story. I enjoyed it a little more than Summer Island. If you are looking for a light book after a heavy one, this will do it.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2020This was such a lovely cozy winter read! I was immediately drawn in by the cover - yes, I am someone who does judge the book by the cover, at least at first. Then when I read the blurb, I knew this was one I had to snatch up. For those of you who are reading this from the US and are hesitant if the reading will be heavy with British English lingo, it's actually not at all. It's very easy to read, I didn't have to look up anything, which I normally have to do some of when reading UK romance books. When I learned this was only the second book written in English by this author, I was eager to see what story she would bring, and I absolutely loved it. It's very rare that I read any books set in Norway. In fact, I think this may be the first! I always enjoy learning something new when reading romance, and this book was full of really interesting facts about Norwegian history and folklore. It is a closed-door romance, with all the sexy times happening "off screen," so to speak. Whether that's your thing or not, I still suggest you give it a try. It was a read perfect for this time of year and a great comfy book for when you're feeling down.
All Holly Greene needs is some peace and relaxation, after an incident at work causes her to worry for her future as a doctor. Invited to her brother's home on an island in Norway, she hopes the distraction of the holidays and her new niece will prove the balm she needs. When she arrives, however, her brother isn't home, and she is forced to try to find his home based on directions he provided her. In the pitch black of the night, she takes a wrong turn and is saved from a drop off a cliff by a crazy looking cat and his gruff owner. Tor Ruude rented the cottage on the island as a way to escape his problems on the mainland, and he wants nothing to do with people, particularly not a woman. However, as he continues to run into her, he becomes intrigued against his will. Soon they are spending more time together, and the interested blossoms into something more. However, neither live on the island and so both must eventually leave. Will this be a romance for a season or will their love surpass all odds? It's Christmas, after all, and anything can happen.
Holly and Tor were absolutely lovely. I loved reading about each of them, and I found that both characters were well developed with great backstories that gave them color and mutual understanding. Holly was a sweetheart, clearly wanting to help others and be a doctor in London, and it was so sad to read about what happened to make her doubt her future. Tor was heart-hurt as well, from a previous relationship that left him mourning what could have been, and yet he still took care of a cat that drove him crazy and took time to make a young woman who felt out of sorts feel comfortable. His mannerisms were very blunt, which was a great contrast to Holly's softer way of communicating, but together they made a well-suited pair. I loved the folklore written into the story as well, such as the Norwegian version of the English brownie (not the food but the mischief-making creature that lives in your home). I also thought it was interesting how the author explained the Norwegian people of old lived, along with a theory of why the Vikings traveled away so much. I never knew how isolated people could be there, and it was eye-opening.
Now I really want to visit Norway, and in a pandemic, I guess now I have all the to plan my trip. I will definitely be reading this author's first English book, and I look forward to the next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Christmas book ever
I am absolutely in love with this series!! I read Summer Island, the first in the series, a few months ago and absolutely adored it so I had to read this one ASAP, especially as it's a Christmas novel. And yet again this one has such a gorgeous cover.
Hands down this is my favourite Christmas book of all time. Not only was it the greatest experience of a Norway Christmas, without actually being there, but everything about it was festive AF. I said this about the last book in the series but I'll say it again; I want to visit Norway. I especially want to visit at Christmas and eat all this food, go to the markets and experience Little Christmas Eve!
I was fully invested in Holly and Tor's romance, from beginning to end; they had my heart and I was desperate for them to have a happy ending.
This is exactly the kind of lighthearted escapism which made me fall in love with reading in the first place. I do wish the ending hadn't been quite so rushed, but only because I wanted the book to go on for longer! Book three please??

4.0 out of 5 stars A koselig read for the winter months!
Norway sounds really dark and cold in the winter months, so it’s no wonder that celebrating the festive season is so important to the islanders in this book. All the celebrations seem to be really needed to bring some light and cheer to the darkest months. I loved the sound of the Christmas market and would have enjoyed wandering round the various stalls, all wrapped up against the cold of course.
There is a lot about food in this book and it sounded good. Well, most of it did. I’m not too sure about the brown cheese and old cheese though, or about putting butter in my porridge! The cakes sounded amazing and the stews deliciously warming.
I have to mention Tor’s enormous cat Frøy. From the first time he comes into the book, probably saving Holly’s life, he really is a cat full of character and attitude. Like many cats, it’s obvious who is in charge in Tor’s house!
This is a slow burn and engaging romance with a bit of mystery surrounding why Holly had come to the island and what was going one with her hospital job. There was also a bit of the unknown about grumpy (though gorgeous!) bearded hermit Tor and what had happened to him. Christmas Island is an easy-to-read, charming read. I enjoyed reading about and learning a bit about Norwegian Christmas traditions. And if the food appealed to you, you will be pleased to find some recipes to try at the back of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
Ever since I read ‘Summer Island’, I’ve been waiting for this sequel and I wasn’t disappointed – it’s wonderful! I read it in one sitting and couldn’t put it down. I fell in love with that idyllic island in the summer time, but despite the horrible weather, it was just as lovely during Christmas and I so want to go there. This was in large part due to a big, grumpy Viking named Tor, with whom I fell instantly in love (despite his enormous beard!). He was tough and vulnerable in equal measures, and so very appealing. The heroine too is someone the reader can really empathise with – her humour and kind nature make that really easy. And I so enjoyed hearing about all the Norwegian Christmas traditions, many of which are very similar to the Swedish ones I grew up with. Made me feel very nostalgic for Christmases past! If you want to escape to a small island full of people with big hearts and a strong sense of community, and lose yourself in a gorgeous romance, this book is for you!

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok if you like predictable
It’s a basic feel-good romance story. But full of mistakes - like tale instead of tail, and even a 31st November!
But if you want a very easy read, with a predictable ending, it’s an ok tale (not tail).
