Claimed by Nicolai (Raiden Warriors) Paperback – April 2, 2019
Purchase options and add-ons
When Abby Harris takes her faithful German shepherd out for a hike in Oregon’s beautiful mountains, getting abducted by aliens isn’t even a blip on her radar. Her trusty can of bear spray and pocketknife aren’t much help against the seven-foot monsters who swoop in out of nowhere to transport her to a ship in space.
Nicolai Nekbet is Crown Prince for the House of Nekbet on the planet Raiden. Unable to bear healthy children with females of their own species, Raiden warriors must hunt for a bride outside their own world. Nicolai has his heart set on a human even though their planet is protected by an ancient species called Laizahlian. When he sees the tall blonde-haired beauty out in the mountains with only a dog by her side, he knows he must have her.
With Abby safely on his ship, Nicolai injects her with his shaprata, his essence. His shaprata will change her on a cellular level, making them compatible for procreation, but he must still work hard to win her heart. If she rejects their union, it could easily mean his death.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 29, 2022The story wasn't too bad. I accidentally read the second book in this series first. This book touches on a lot of heavy topics: abduction, rape, and slavery. Abbey felt a little immature at times but a little further in the book you find out she is only 19. So that explained much.
The book deals with one of the characters abducting a you adolescent girl and rapes her. He is dealt with. The one who did it isn't Nicolai the one that abducted Abby. He ends up redeeming himself towards the end.
Overall its a decent story. I'm going to have to reread the second book now that I got the back story.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2021I'm always looking for a good alien romance some of them can be cheesy with no depth or way to much sex scenes and no real story but this was pretty good . The author played on some of are earthly myths. Abby was abducted by a alien for a mate bond but it took a travel through space and a almost death too make Abby ready for such a bond . The mate bond has been played a million times in alien romances and does get a little old. This story was well written but I was disappointed in the epilogue. I like a epilogue to be about the couple years later . I can't wait to read about the Dragon/serpent shape shifted in this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2020I received this book to sample and give a brief opinion on. I could not stop reading it. I loved the unique storyline and the characters are believable even though they are mythical/alien beings, except Abby. Abby is a human who is ”claimed” by a lizard-like being from another world. She is a strong female character and as she comes to grips with her situation, she discovers beautiful worlds and wondrous adventures. I recommend this for adults due to the graphic sexual scenes. If you like steamy sci-fi romance adventures, you will love this. The author, Denna Holm has two more in this Raiden Warriors series, and I can't wait to read them.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2020i cant say for sure that im great at writing reviews, (which i surely am not) however, as a sci-fi fan that breaks away from reality this book is a great steamy read. im not usually a fan of lengthy, boring back stories and reminiscing on old memories from any character. no matter the character it does get boring. ruining the flow of the mood. yet the author kept it short and sweet while still very informative with her word choices. i will have to admit i dont do romance novels but this one kept that steamy action going in very subtle ways throughout very intense scenarios.
what i always say to myself is never knock it till you try it. this one turned out to be a very good choice. im not experience as most to say what would be a negative aspect about the book but am inclined to say i dont judge till the reading is done.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2020As I first started reading this book, it reminded me of old "Star Trek" episodes where viewers were transported to adventures we never could imagine.
Nicolai needs to find a mate quickly to carry on his planet Raiden's existence because women on the planet were unable to bear children.
He and his aide's seek out a suitable mate on Earth. Abby is hiking with her dog in the mountains. She is injected with Shaprata and abducted and transported to Raiden.
This begins an odessey of lust and passion. The only things standing in their way are possible unrequited love and feelings and the jealousy and urge to destroy them by others.
I would recommend the book to anyone who loves mystery, suspense and surprise plot twists
- Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2020The characters are compelling, and well written. Character details are descriptive enough that I could get a clear picture in my imagination of what they might look like. Dialog moved quickly enough I didn't get bored, was witty, and sometimes laugh out loud funny. I enjoyed the fact that Abby wasn't "struck" by insta-love, and the plot flowed smoothly through the stages of the relationship as it developed over time. There are plenty of unexpected and surprising twists that make it difficult to put this book down. I thought this was a fantastic book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2020Denna Holm was so seamless from beginning to end of this novel. I really liked this story she created, she made it seem like this could really happen. At times it was so emotional, I think she covered every emotion possible witthin this book,I really didn't want to reach the end but on the other hand i was turning pages like a mad women !I'm spool looking forward to the next book Denna Holm puts out I will be getting it! I think if you really love reading alien romance, paranormal, some action and a little territorial behaviour from hot so men.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2019I enjoyed the book and will be watching for the next two stories; however, the h in the story had a very annoying characteristic of using the words "gonna" and "wanna." To my mind it took a lot away from the character, making her very common. I half expected her to start chewing bubble gum and blowing bubbles. Wanted to like the h more but this was just plain annoying. Yes, she's in her late teens but she sounded more like 13 years of age.

5.0 out of 5 stars Erotically Charged Human/Alien Romance
Abby Harris, not quite out of her teens, is walking with her dog in the Cascade mountains. She is abducted by an alien, a Raiden named Nickolai, heir to the House of Nekbet, who plans to make her his wife and queen of his people. He fails, however, to take into account his captive’s feisty nature, and in the ensuing weeks, discovers that winning her heart proves to be much more difficult than capturing her body. Abby fights him every step of the way, although she does become aware of his generous and honourable nature, and her feelings towards him slowly change. In spite of herself, she sides with Nicolai in his struggles against his psychopathic brother and learns that he truly is a man to be admired and respected. Is this another example of the Stockholm Syndrome where a captive begins to bond with her abductor? Or is her changing perspective due to the injection from his shaprata? Or could it be possible that she is feeling something deeper?
Nickolai can sense all of her feelings, but Abby’s confusion fills him with doubts of his own. His fears are brought to a head when Guage, an ancient hunter charged with protecting humanity, finds Abby and informs her that he can rid her mind of all memory of what had happened and restore her to her people. Nickolai honourably allows Abby to discuss this with the hunter, standing on the sidelines, heart breaking, dreading the inevitable loss of the woman who has become his life’s blood. He is certain she will accept Guage’s offer and leave him.
Claimed by Nickolai is ostensibly a sci-fi story, skillfully crafted, professionally written, and filled with great characters. Holm has created an extraordinary world, made utterly believable by the breadth of her incredible imagination. The Raidens are an alien race with an established history and culture, with deep-rooted customs, described in such prolific and seemingly authentic detail, that it is almost impossible not to believe that this world actually exists. We meet other amazing races, in wondrous settings, with wildly creative characteristics, filled with their own desires, rivalries, and rules. A true feast for sci-fi fans.
Sometimes, however, a book can rise beyond its genre because it deals with themes that are universal. For me, this is a story as old as time. I am forcibly reminded of a heartbreaking line from Ode to a Nightingale by John Keats: ‘ ... the sad heart of Ruth, when, sick for home, she stood in tears amid the alien corn.’ Ruth, from the Christian bible, was left without any resources but her own strong nature to cope with her exile. Abby, too, is dragged into exile, bereft of all support and forced to rely only on the strength of her own will to deal with this desperate and frightening situation. She meets her state initially with anger and outright rejection, running a full plethora of emotions through reluctance to ultimate acquiescence. But this is a journey, and in that journey lies the story.
Nickolai, despite his race’s assumption that abducting females from other planets to further their own kind is perfectly normal, is a man of honour, noble even. He is an alien with a strange appearance, but his values transcend race, colour, creed. They are the values that are the bedrock of our own human code for living. Are such values truly universal? Do they carry across light-years of space to other alien cultures?
Holm’s story is a romance with its fair share of eroticism, but it is a tale that makes us examine the human spirit, its ability to cope in dire situations. It forces us, too, to look beyond the scaly skins of others to see there the same emotions we ourselves experience, the same doubts, the same fears, the same hopes. Under the skin, Holm tells us, we are all the same.
Readers of sci-fi, readers of romance, readers of erotica, will all love this story. Even readers who do not normally read any of these, will still share in the heroine’s struggle, and empathize with the novel’s broader themes. A wonderful story, beautifully told.

4.0 out of 5 stars Had me hooked!
I felt that the transition from Abby being resentful to loving was too quick for me. If anything I’d rather her agree to attempt at being friends before further developing their relationship. My biggest pet peeve was that the different species were not as developed as I’d liked and that Nicolai’s features seemed more humane than other beings. Other than this, I absolutely loved this and finished over the course of 6 hours. This type of novel I feel would cater more to young adults.
