En la década de 1960 en Inglaterra, cuando las jóvenes se quedaban embarazadas fuera del matrimonio se las recluía en casas de acogida para madres gestantes y a las seis semanas de dar a luz sus bebés eran entregados en adopción. Readers' Favorite 5 star review:
The Children of Hope, written by Jenny Twist and translated by Alicia Pérez Alarza, is a short story told in both English and Spanish solely as a dual purpose assignment. The realities told in this moving mini-saga are heart-wrenching. The narrative is tightly woven and easy to read. The Children of Hope is an excellent addition to school, church, and public libraries. Jenny Twist masterfully tells the story with grace and understanding on a subject often considered taboo.

Jenny Twist was born in York and brought up in the West Yorkshire mill town of Heckmondwike, the eldest grandchild of a huge extended family.

She left school at fifteen and went to work in an asbestos factory. After working in various jobs, including bacon-packer and escapologist’s assistant (she was The Lovely Tanya), she returned to full-time education and did a BA in history, at Manchester and post-graduate studies at Oxford.

She stayed in Oxford working as a recruitment consultant for many years and it was there that she met and married her husband, Vic.

In 2001 they retired and moved to Southern Spain where they live with their rather eccentric dogs and cat. Besides writing, she enjoys reading, knitting and attempting to do fiendishly difficult logic puzzles.

Since moving to Spain she has written four novels and numerous short stories.

Four of her books have been given 5 star reviews by the esteemed review site, Readers’ Favorite.

In July 2018 she was awarded the coveted TOP FEMALE AUTHOR award in Fantasy/Horror/Paranormal/Science Fiction by The Authors Show

5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to add pleasure to your learning!

After reading several of Jenny Twist's stories in the past, I was overjoyed, as someone learning Spanish, to discover these dual language versions. I have read one and have now bought a second. Her technique of translating by the paragraph is excellent. Those from other authors are often done page by page. This method suits me much better on a personal level. I look forward to beginning my second one!

3.0 out of 5 stars A Bilingual Curiosity

A curiosity - one paragraph in English, the next in Spanish - alternately through the book. I read the English and struggled with the Spanish.

Set circa 1960, if you got pregnant you went into a home, had the baby, the baby was taken away from you, you got kicked out. We may not be perfect these days but we are an awful lot better than that.

I nearly stopped at that point - it is a depressing story, to begin with. I was assured by a friend that there was a happy ending - the title is not cynical.
