Coldburgh Train Station: RIPP (Researchers In Paranormal Phenomenon) Book 1 Kindle Edition
Do you hear bumps in the night? Get unexplained chills? Feel like someone’s watching you when you’re all alone? Don’t stay scared! Shoot RIPP a message for all your spooktacular needs!
Dane
I only go along with Rory and Thad’s crazy plan of checking out an abandoned train station because they seem so excited, and I honestly don’t care what we do for our film class project. Transferring colleges was supposed to be my escape from reality, anyway, so there’s no harm in doing a little ghost hunting, right? It’s not like we’ll find anything. I really just want to go through the motions, but these guys have a way of making me care—ugh. Even Rory’s older brother is able to get under my skin in ways I wish he couldn’t. I should stay away, but his sweet and caring nature keeps pulling me in—damn him.
Brooks
Helping Rory and Thad with RIPP is just something I do to spend time with them. Bless their little hearts, they really believe in ghosts and are determined to prove it to the world. When Dane gets assigned to their group for their class project, my worry they won’t need me anymore is overshadowed by my desire to spend as much time as possible getting to know the mysterious new man. I get my wish when we have an encounter that seems… unbelievable. As scary as it is, my life becomes less aimless when Dane and I team up to protect my brother and his best friend when they insist on returning to the train station again... and again.
What happens when two men experience something no one else sees? Can they stay alive long enough to fall in love or is seeing what lives at Coldburgh Train Station the beginning of the end?
Coldburgh Train Station is book one in the RIPP (Researchers In Paranormal Phenomenon) series. It’s a 93K word standalone MM romance with spooky fun, cute guys, apparitions, a hyper younger brother that won’t stay away from the coffee pot, a friend that cares way too much about his tan, spirits, a crazy mom, amazing friendships, love, and did we mention ghosts?
Intended for audiences 18 years and older.

About the authors
Michele is married to an awesome guy that puts up with her and all the burnt dinners she makes—hey, sometimes characters are a bit distracting, and who doesn’t plot when they’re supposed to be cooking? They live together in Baltimore, Maryland with two little monsters, a three-legged princess, a four-legged goofball, and a cutie with giant ears (aka their two kids, their two cats, and their dog). She hopes to rescue another cat soon, and if her hubby wouldn’t kill her, she’d get more than one… and maybe a few more dogs as well.
She loves creating worlds filled with lots of love, chosen family, and of course, magic, but she also likes making the characters fight for that happy ending. She hopes to one day write all the stories in her head—even if there are too many to count!

Sammi Cee was raised in a family of readers. Summer vacations consisted of a good book while sitting lakeside from as far back as she could remember. After growing up and having her own children, her appreciation of how the written word could transport you on an adventure, bring you to tears, or give you hope, took on a whole new meaning.
These days Sammi is watching her children develop into fine young ladies while doing the things she enjoys most: drinking coffee, eating chocolate, and writing her own stories.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2021This story in the series is told from Brooks and Dane's POV, but not only does it tell the story of their relationship beginnings, but also the inception of RIPP (Researchers in Paranormal Phenomenon). Dane, a depressed business student, starts at a new college. He's in his senior year, but took the previous year off and he transferred into this new school to get away from his ghosts. He was talked into a film class by his mother. Film had been his first love at his previous school, but it's all tied into his 'before' life that he doesn't want to think about, as he gets more depressed when he does. Brooks is out of school, and while he has a job he enjoys his life doesn't revolve around it. His real love is spending time at home, with his brother, Rory, and Rory's bff, Thad, working with them on RIPP. He hates being on camera, but he researches and buys the equipment and works with Rory and Thad to record and produce the best possible quality show for RIPP.
The relationship between Brooks and Dane is very slow-burn, as Dane has to deal with his issues before he can move on. However, the friendship that blossoms between the 4 of them helps Dane, enveloping him with love and comfort he'd never before realized - having always thought of as a burden. The background story of RIPP and the current case they're working on is almost another MC. The train station provides a reason for Brooks and Dane to grow closer, but the story they find there is spooky and comes through quite real. The heart bleeds when Dane's past is revealed, but the comfort and family he finds in Brooks, Rory, and Thad help him through.
I read the prequel (The Ghost in the Emerald Cabin) and knew I was going to love this series. The story, the depth of feeling, the angst that these authors portray just jumps from the page and comes to life in my imagination. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. The dust around your house will make your eyes tear up - honestly, it was DUST! - so have tissues available. I wanted to pick up the 2nd book immediately - but it hasn't been written yet. I suggest, if you like a fantastic story to go with your romance, and you don't mind a bit of spook (because this book has plenty of it!) then pick up this book now! 5 stars
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2023Finally a paranormal book with a good plot as well as a good romance. The cast of characters is a great mix, nice with some snark. I’m definitely rooting for Rory and Thad to get together. Basically this book has it all. Clear world building, character development, plot, supernatural scares, budding romance, and it leaves you wanting more. I even read the bonus scenes available on the author's website.
I recommend reading the prequel also as it will feature prominently in book two according to author hunts. I’m definitely grabbing the next book as soon as it becomes available!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2021Having read the prequel to this book, I knew I wanted to jump right in! This writing duo have proven their chops and this is another awesome series! A hurt/comfort, medium angst, slow burn, paranormal mystery/read with the addition of deadly ghostly interference. Brooks is the shy ‘holder of the camera’ for his younger brothers’, one by blood, one by choice, paranormal group. He is not a believer and is somewhat pleased when the new addition to the group is skeptical as well, especially when he is also exactly Brooks’ type.
Dane moved to a new school after a year off to deal with tragedy. He fully intends to keep everyone at a distance, which isn’t helped by his professor adding him to Rory and Thad’s group. The last thing he wants is to find new people to care for but it’s impossible not to like his group mates and extremely hard to not fall for Brooks.
Watching Brooks and Dane work through their issues and begin to fall together is super sweet and I needed lots of tissues. In addition to their relationship, Brooks and Dane also have to figure out how to keep their team safe from the spirits, since Thad and Rory are running on excitement and don't realize the danger until too late.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves paranormal, ghost stories with an amazing love story attached.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2021Wow! This book is amazing! I know when Michele Notaro and Sammi Cee get together it's going to be something spectacular and this just solidifies that opinion. This book has everything I could want - a great paranormal mystery storyline and charming, completely endearing characters. I love the relationship between Brooks, his younger brother, Rory and their bff, pseudo brother, Thad. The sibling bickering and banter made me laugh out loud and the strength of their love and commitment to each other is really heartwarming. Dane is such a lost soul at the beginning, but as becomes part of this little family group, you see him start to blossom and shine. When you learn of his past it about breaks your heart, but as the other characters pull him into their circle, you see him start to heal. The connection between Dane and Brooks is so sweet and pure. Brooks gives Dane space and understanding to find his way, but is there to catch him up in loving arms when he breaks. I'm absolutely addicted to this series and I can't wait for the next book! I 1000% recommend this!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2023I read these out of order. I finished Rory's story a year or 2 ago and it took me a bit to get to this one but it was amazing!
I definitely made the mistake of reading it when we have an old boarded up train station in town that I had to drive by at night to pick my kid up so that was unsettling but in the best spooky way possible!
It was creepy, suspenseful and so incredibly endearing. I loved the flow, the interplay of the relationships and how the relationships built and the mystery behind the train station.
I don't know if you did anymore RIPP stories after Rory's yet, but I really hope so because I loved reading about their adventures.
Now I need to go back and read the stories in order!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
I read the prequel of this book and the story trapped me so this book was a must. The plot is captivating, and I loved the premise of the story, specially the paranormal angle and the part about RIPP 's discoverings. In between the paranormal adventures, the team get closer and found their purpose. Brooks and Dane are perfect for each other and we witness how their relationship evolved throughout the book. I enjoyed a lot the cute characters, funny bantering, some spooky situations and sweet steamy scenes. Definitely a wonderful series to fo!low. I can't wait for book 2!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing but read with the lights on!
This book appealed to me before it was even released after reading the prequel I knew it was my kind of story I like the intro to the characters and this book didn’t disappoint. It’s such an unusual and interesting concept to me. Rory and Thad are sweet, teasing younger brothers and I look forward to learning more about them in future. I immediately liked Brooks. He comes across as such a sweetheart and pure soul. Protective and awkward. Just a really likeable character. From the intro into Dane you could see he had a lot of layers and sticking with him you’d get another lovable character.
The story it self is so clever and detailed. From the events that happen at Colburgh station to the research and investigation you feel you are there. There are HUGE jump scares. I had to read this in the day time because it puts the spook in spookables. There is such emotion in parts and as you find more out you are pulled into their heartbreak.
The relationship aspect is sweet yet hot. Deep and everything you could hope for. I love this and can’t wait for more. Reread pile for sure!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it
This manages to be a perfect mix of plot and romance. The relationship between Brooks and Diane is slow burn as Dane is very closed off. Dane's past made me cry a bit.
The paranormal plot was fantastic, balancing creepy and interesting. I actually put this down which was a struggle, only to pick up the prequel. Cannot wait for Rory's book

After really enjoying the prequel, I was so looking forward to reading this book.
It didn't disappoint, I loved the characters in RIPP and really

It does have some genuinely scary bits and a fantastic storyline!
Loved Dane and Brooks!!
