Hi Everyone. I'm J.J.

(New!) I started a newsletter! Head to my website to keep in touch - www.jjthornbooks.com

I love LitRPG, GameLit, and Progression Fantasy stories. These stories made me appreciate reading again.

I'm a Canadian looking to write stories that aren't just wish-fulfillment LitRPGs. I hope to tell stories that enrage, delight, and push the limits of the LitRPG genre. I aim to get there one day :).

My first series was 'The Weight Of It All,' a series about a boy finding his place on the continent of Terna, where dungeoneering is a way of life and getting stronger is not just a goal.

My latest series of stories is about orphans who are forced to survive and thrive in a post-apocalyptic world. Named 'System Orphans, ' each will follow a different orphan, with the first set of books following Claire. In this series, fewer punches are pulled as Claire strives to kill anyone who appears on her Quest.

The two series are VERY different, but I hope you enjoy them!

Thanks for giving my stories a chance - you can find me on Instagram: @jjthornbooks, on facebook @JJTHORNBOOKS or my website:

Collapse is another excellent installment in The Weight of It All series. 5 stars! Terrence's group of friends meet up with Tom's group of dungeoneers in Collapse and the difference in skill and experience is evident. Still Terrence and his friends all work hard and see improvement in their abilities. Thorn's variation on how Monsters, Dungeons and Dungeon cores interact with their local ecosystem, including humanity, has unique twists that I enjoy. I don't want to say too much more about the book and give things away, so I will just say that hopefully the next book will come out soon!

This was a great book. My only problem was the title and cover art. The art is great. It just gave away so much I think it should if been titled tournament . It would if lent to a good.but more suspense. But that's me. From the title I was apprehensive about reading this book. I knew I was going to. The author has done a good job on this series. Although the mc learns things and relearns them it seems. I just wish his growth was more consistent. I knew from the title to expect death. Some were surprising others were less so. But still overall a good read.and looking forward to the next one.

If you are familiar with the series do you know what to expect progress steady progress not the fastest progress we normally see in the genre but slow steady progress. Excellent story excellent plot points I am a bit worried about the progress however. At this pace this is going to be a long series not a bad thing but just something to consider. I also wonder how are our characters going to begin to advance beyond where they are now we see other characters that take years decades to advance so how are these you for characters going to make it. Maybe we will get some sort of time loop forward or something I don’t know but I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Not as good as the first story. Seemed to get bogged down and loose it’s direction at times. I gave this one a three because I hope the next one will be better, with better development of characters. There are so many I found myself wondering at times who the hero/ heroines are supposed to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great

It's certainly heavy. Dealing with disaster and being left with an uncertain future, it's still good to see Ren's growth and progression.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great end to the first arc
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 24, 2022
Without going into a lot of detail for spoiler reasons this sees the end of Ren's time at Prep school and the Tournament. The story was good and going forward my biggest concern is pacing. I think it would be a disservice to the readers to try and wrap everything up in 2 books. Even if the final books were both 600+ pages long I struggle to see a satisfying end with where we are in the story. Tom's story took more of a back seat which helped with pacing but unless Tom and Ren come together early on in Book 5 Tom's storyline will have been completely wasted in favour of focusing on Ren. I hope J.J makes this a 7 book series at least instead of 6 based on current progress.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slow paced adventure..
Reviewed in India on October 10, 2021
The story immediately dives into where we left off in the previous book. Issue with this is the supporting characters are too many to count and remember meaningfully. A synopsis at the beginning of each book would have been much more useful instead of cast of characters in the end of a book. Overall slow but meaningful plot progression is good but offset by individual book size which is on lower side. Will wait for 2-3 more books to release before I pick up the series again.

An excellent continuation of a great series. I'm really enjoying the main cast as the continue to grow and adapt to their affinities. This book sucked me in and wouldn't let me go until I finished it.
