Falling for the boss puts a whole new spin on employee relations…

Young and ambitious, Jake Stafford is marked for future greatness at the investment firm he works for in London. Finding out his newly appointed boss is corporate legend Oliver Lester, Jake wants nothing more than to learn from the best in the business.

With a twenty year age gap and a lifetime of experience separating the two men, Oliver tells himself he can’t give in to his growing attraction for his young protégé. His focus should be his career, but working in close quarters with Jake is a distraction Oliver’s finding impossible to ignore.

What could they have in common? All it takes is one stolen kiss to discover the answer is more than they could ever have known.

As Jake and Oliver rush to meet their bright future, dark clouds from the past gather on the horizon. Are they strong enough to face the coming storm, or will it destroy and lay waste to all their hopes and dreams?

Making Your Heart Pound... One Beat at a Time.

The stories I only ever told myself were set in a world where boy met boy, where best friends became more, where the hero rescued not the damsel but the hot guy he'd been secretly crushing on.

I wanted to read those stories. I craved to read those stories. But those stories weren't out there. Or that's what I thought, until one Christmas, when I unwrapped a shiny new e-reader. All it took was a few clicks, and my world changed forever.

I found my tribe.

But there is life outside of MM & gay romantic fiction in all its configurations. Allegedly.

When I'm forced to switch off the trusty, faithful word machine, there's a husband to feed and talk to, pubs to drink in, and cake to eat. I love to do all those things and more, before I rush back to write all the words.

I'm a Londoner, born and bred, but I now live just outside the big bad city but close enough to hop on a train so I can get my regular metropolitan fix.

A meeting of eyes across a crowded restaurant is all it takes. When Jake Stafford sees Oliver Lester at the other end of the room he knows, no they know, they are meant for each other.

Oliver returns to England when he finds out that his boyfriend of twenty plus years have been cheating on him. He is hired as head of the division in which Jake is working.
Jake is struggling to come out of an abusive, emotionally as well as phycially, relationship.
Both men are hunted by ghosts from their past. These ghosts don’t stay in the past, however. They keep on emerging in their journey towards each other.

I loved this book. The story was well written. The words flowed on the pages. The characters were real and very likable. They were not afraid to reveal their true nature, their doubts and vulnerability. I really felt the connection between the two men. Their difference in age was not a problem in any way. Against all odds they were trying so hard to start a life together. They got through some angsty moments. It took them a lot of communication, self reflection and trust to get there, but they did.

    Highly recommended.

I voluntarily read an ARC of this book for an honest review.

The beginning of this book was great.

    *spoilers kind of*

There could’ve been a little more tension before they got together but it was great and then… the repetitive arguments were annoying but I saw some growth so I still would’ve given it 5 stars. But the third act? The easy forgiveness? Oliver should’ve had to grovel at least or give a proper apology. The third act was unnecessary and the ending was unsatisfying.

Ollie and Jake's story is so perfectly imperfect. Love, trust and strength built upon the ashes of broken relationships, insecurities self doubt and tears. Life is never easy but it's the downs that make the ups spectacular!

Two men, one returning home and rebuilding his life and the other trying to rid himself of a decade of being at the beck and call of a user. Now they have to both learn to trust and love.

I really enjoyed this story! The characters, the setting and their journey all grabbed my attention right from the very beginning. Jake and Oliver are both great men but are a little broken after having recently come out of some rough-ending relationships. They aren’t the most likely pair, there’s a bit of an age difference and they work together, but there are definite sparks right from the moment they meet. Their journey together isn’t about just finding true love but actually keeping it.

I loved both Jake and Oliver from the start, these two really connected with my heart. Both men have experienced pain from the end of a relationship and both are a little leery about giving their heart away, but it seems like they just can’t prevent it from happening. These two are so wonderful together and to each other. It’s not all easy though, Jake and Ollie have to prove and believe that they truly are over their exes and ready for a new forever. Those beliefs get challenged and there are new hurts, but it’s all about earning that real HEA.

I really felt like I got to know these two, understanding their reasonings for what they did and how they felt. It didn’t make the rough times easier though. I really felt for what both Jake and Ollie dealt with and could see and feel both sides. I loved the way that came across in this book and it really made their story feel whole. From beginning to end, this book held my attention and had my heart rooting for Jake and Ollie. Despite their age difference, complications from work, one demented ex and even some well meaning but meddling friends, I wanted these two to be happy. I loved the way it all came together and made each of these men stronger.

I can definitely recommend this book and really look forward to more from this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a really good M/M romance, both Jake and Oliver need to heal.

I try not to give a storyline away when I review a book, there is a pretty good blurb for this book that sets the story for you.
Although there is an instant spark for both Jake and Oliver, they are reluctant, each for their own good reasons, to do anything about their attraction.
Jake is younger but this is not as much an issue for him. Because of past hurts and trust issues this wonderful pair have quite a few struggles. I am not too sure if I actually liked Oliver's "best friend". To me he caused a bit of trouble that further undermined a really good relationship. Jakes friends though are really great. And forget about Jakes "ex" if he could be considered that. If you think about what I said then you will understand that this book is well written because I was sucked into all the characters and their interactions.

Once I started this book I couldn't put it down. It has everything I was looking for, the age difference, the interfering ex, the emotional connection, office romance. You name it and this book had it! What I loved most about this novel wasn't just the romance but how the characters had to deal with a very real fear. I've read stories of a similar design before and what they had an impossible situation to deal with. This wasn't like that, instead, there were real issues both characters needed to overcome in order to make their relationship work. I would recommend this story.
